Their circumstances are different and they are different pitchers. Those pitchers noted are BETTER than Pivetta and they got less years than some expect Pivetta to for some reason. I was just responding to the idea that pitchers in their 30's typically get contracts longer than 2 years.

Well I didn't clarify this so it's my bad but I meant pitchers who are healthy and don't have any abnormal situations or concerns. There's usually something going on when a guy gets a 1-2 year deal.....or they're just old as FFFF

Pivetta has already been on the IL, so early in the season.

One minor IL stint means nothing compared to his seemingly enitre career of health. Especially if he finishes the season and has clean medicals. No one will care that he missed a month back in April if he finshes this season fine.

I guess they need to make Slaten a starter.

He read your post and developed a twitch in his eye. But Cora said they're going to take care of him.

Next week, they hope to monitor him reading monitors on flat ground.

It means a lot if he’s throwing different pitches today that puts more stress on the arm. I agree on how he finishes the season though.

Using a modified QS formula, here are our SP numbers:

MQS:

7+ IP 0-3 ER

5+ IP 0-2 ER

4+ IP 0-1 ER

10 Houck (12 starts) would be 11, if you count his 6 IP/ 3ER game.

8 Crawford (13) He also had a 6IP/3ER game that does not count, here.

7 Criswell (9) The team is 7-2 in his starts.

6 Pivetta (8) The two 5 ER games has killed his ERA.

5 Bello (10) He had one 6/3 as well.

83% Houck

78% Criswell

75% Pivetta

62% Crawford

50% Bello

If he finishes the season healthy, there will be a 4 year deal waiting for him somewhere if he wants it.

They'll take real good care of him. Real good.

Knowing us, that might happen, someday.

Bernardino, too.

LOL

Have Slaten pitch 250 IP. Bernardino is older so you gotta be a little more careful with him, maybe only 225.

This prediction recorded for posterity.

Jordan Montgomery bombed again yesterday and booed off the field by Arizona fans. Sox dodged a bullet by not signing him.

I’d still take him on a one year deal. If nothing else, he’s given the Diamondbacks 46 IP the Sox don’t have the depth to cover…

THIS outlines the importance of having a spring training, not having one really messed him up. Blake SNell has looked horrible too, same deal.

Time for Boras to retire.

Maybe we trade for him at the deadline.

Martin is on the IL with anxiety issues. Go figure. His whole career has been high pressure late innings appearances and he has mastered his emotions on the mound.

He kind of snapped the other night for no apparent reason. You never know what is bothering people. Last week, a PGA golfer took his own life. Hope Martin gets whatever help he needs.

Funny how we correctly see baseball and golf as simply sports--and sports which pay well. But there can be no doubt about the pressure and the fact that some people handle it better than others.

A brief revisit to this year's Sox prospects--not players, but their chance at the postseason.

31-31, .500 with 100 games to go doesn't look that great.

It looks even worse when you see know the Sox lead MLB in errors, their lineup continues to struggle driving in runs, massive injuries, both short and long term--including Abreu who fell down the freaking steps into the dugout--and a pitching staff, while still the best part of this team, that lately has been leaking runs.

In short, no way, jose.

However, two hopeful stats/signs: 1) Sox are just 2.5 games back of the Twins for the 3d wild card; 2) Sox have a +26 run differential, which is the 4th best in the AL.

Are you talking about the incident with the first base coach? Or was it a new episode?

Some positive things:

29 unearned runs first 31 games, but 10 unearned runs last 31 games.

The return of Casas.

Better offense at SS and 2B than before. (Romy, DHam, Rafaela> Valdez, Reyes, Short)

Hendriks joins in August.

The concerns:

Rotation coming back to earth

Martin's issues

Offense, offense, offense (Rafaela & Grissom)

The incident with the coach. He was upset about the batter bunting or something like that.

Martin's situation is troubling for him and the team. We never see too much of what actually factors into a pro athlete's life especially during the season. Martin may have any number of issues from relationship, taxes, family health, etc that affects his emotions.

I do not feel bad for him, it is what it is. He has more resources and support than most to deal with it . If he wants to see real anxiety , I'm sure it can be arranged. Try a young father, with 3 kids, one on the way, and gets a pink slip at work in his factory because AI machines are being installed to take his place.

Do the Red Sox still DFA D Smith, and bring up the K Man? Hilarious!

Niko's OPS is going the wrong direction the last 15 games or so.

Rafaela getting RBI's from the 9th spot.

Just wait until he learns to hit.

Yeah, we're all waiting.
