  1. That's what ST is for. If you know Devers will eventually play 1B, just throw him over there. Even if he doesn't get in there in the regular season in '25, he would have at least fielded some grounders or whatever. Just having him not practice any fielding was so boneheaded. The idea that the Sox should have been ok to have him just DH until Casas got injured and then throw him to 1B with no prior fieldwork makes no sense to me. If he's being taken off of 3b, keep him fielding elsewhere at least parttime.
  2. They should have asked him in ST. Seems like getting in the reps then would have prevented a bunch of problems.
  3. He shouldn't be an everyday player. He's MAYBE a good bench player. Peak Seigler is him playing like Brock Holt. Maybe he becomes that? More likely he's just a AAAA guy who bounces around and can play everywhere and is fun to watch (ambidextrous, play all over the field, good energy). I'm enjoying the Seigler experience while it lasts. We've had some bad UTIL guys here. We've had several streaky ones that have gone on short hot streaks and then faded, but held onto their positions for way too long (i.e. Pablo Reyes).
  4. No, we want to take this BAD defensive 3b (worst in the league I was told) and he MUST play 1B! That's what is best for the team!
  5. As well as the King of Providence: Chuck Palumbo.
  6. Well, the first 6 years were wasted on trying to develop him as a catcher. Now his a UTIL guy, which makes much more sense for his profile. Since he's switched to being a UTIL guy: '24: 122 wRC+ AA '25: 143 wRC+ AAA '26: 126 wRC+ AAA, 106 wRC+ MLB It takes a long time to develop catchers due to the additional defensive workload and preparation. If he was moved off C years before, he would have probably made it to the show prior to last season.
  7. I said from day one that he may never get back to MLB or at least be a shell of himself when he does. Since they brought in Contreras this offseason, I don't think they were counting on him coming back at all either.
  8. I'd consider giving him an extension through 2030 after trading for him too.
  9. BTW, PIT is above .500 while BOS is below .500.
  10. The problem when dealing prospects is that most teams want guys that are close to MLB ready, they don't really want players like Justin Gonzales who is still in A ball. They want Gonzales when he's in AAA. Sox don't have the talent that is ready to be promoted to MLB. The assets they have are far away so have less value to other teams.
  11. Those teams have better records than the Sox right now.
  12. Not a problem anymore. They've gotten rid of most of their scouting department. Now they just watch video at home like the rest of us.
  13. Pena is the most reasonable here as he's on a short contract. Angels have already sent out signals that it would take a king's ransom for Neto.
  14. I believe FanGraphs (or a similar site) had a recent article on teams using their catchers more and more as DH's on days when they aren't behind the dish. If you have a guy that can swing it, why not? The big question now that the Sox are probably signing 8 bats from this draft class is "who is getting promoted and who is getting waived to make room for the new guys?"
  15. He was the same player before and after he signed his contract. Why would a contract change how he plays? That doesn't make sense at all. Should the Sox sign Duran for 30M AAV and say "well, now you are required to stop sucking at hitting" and expect him to hit?
  16. Fielding metrics being overstated in how WAR is counted.
  17. DHing Sogard over Masa means Masa is no longer on the roster. I'm fine with that move. I've called for clearing Duran and Masa from the team over and over and over again. 🤷‍♂️
  18. Fenway would be a better park for his swing. Not sure how long he sticks around though. This is definitely a low cost low reward move.
  19. Well, I don't think they brought him in if they thought he'd have a 506 OPS vs LHP going forward this year. If he does, they'll also DFA him.
