  1. It says something about Devers, but it also says Cora knew the player and how he probably would take things and that Breslow had no idea about Devers other than as a pawn on his spreadsheet. Not a lot different than what he said to Whitlock and Story after Cora was fired. There's a lot of blame for the divorce on both sides.
  2. Oh for crying out loud, those two weren’t on anyone’s radar. All 30 teams passed on Schlitter 6 times and 23 of them a 7th time before the Yankees took him. All 30 teams passed on Rice 11 times and 20 of them a 12th time before the Yankees picked him. Let’s not pretend that anyone, including the Yankees, thought much of either of them. Everyone was wrong and the Yankees got lucky late in the draft. It happens. Betts was a 5th round pick for that matter. Neither was drafted out of high school and let’s face it, if they went to Northeastern and Dartmouth, they were not big time college players either.
  3. Biggest thing I saw both Monday and today is late in the game, the Rockies’ hitters just try. and put the ball in play; Sox hitters try to hit the ball farther by swinging harder.
  4. Mayer’s error was huge, but Slaten still would have pitched the 8th and I have no reason to think the results would have been any different.
  5. They did win yesterday. Monday was worse than this.
  6. That deserves a HaHa and a Sad emoji at the same time.
  7. He’s definitely needs to be moved to mop up duty. He does not have the mental make up for late and tied or ahead work.
  8. Mayer made the big error today, but Sox relievers have sucked this entire series.
  9. Contreras should have let that go; it would have rolled foul.
  10. That error set up the inning, but Guerrero has to be a little tougher and also stop throwing his fastball down. If they catch up to 100+ up top, tip your hat to the hitter. Down is much easier to get to.
  11. Not one of those hitters went up there trying to hit the ball 500 feet. Just put it in play.
  12. Why are you doing a pop up slide on that?
  13. Well he benched himself by getting himself hurt.
  14. That Schlitter kid for the Yankees is a prime example. Undrafted out of high school, 7th round pick out of Northeastern and look at him now.
  15. True, but those are Compensatory and/or Competitive Balance picks. The Royals still have the #6 pick as well and the Orioles kept their regular position last year. The Dodgers got a 10 slot penalty for going over one of the upper tier luxury tax levels. The MLB draft rules are complicated but Fred is viewing them as 1-30 based straight up on record, hence my simplistic response to him.
  16. I’m not sure I’d go that far, but Duran really needs a couple days off.
  17. I’d rather have the #30 pick since that means you are the defending World Series champions.
  18. Gray not getting over in time to back up 3rd costs a base Very sloppy tonight.
  19. Plus in a lot of cases, visiting fans will scoop up what's left, especially for teams that are reasonably close by (Yankees, Blue Jays, etc). Heck, 5000 Scotsmen showed up last week for multiple games; their $ spend the same for Henry as New England fan $ do.
  20. So you know there’s a lottery for the top 6 picks and it includes all 18 teams that don’t make the playoffs. Yes, it’s weighted with the worst teams more likely to get the top picks but it’s not guaranteed. The worst team is assured of the 7th pick. They are not assured of anything higher than that.
  21. It would have made no difference last night. Guerrero came in for the 7th and set the Rockies down 1-2-3. Bennett could not have improved on that. Formula all year has been get the game to Whitlock and Chapman for the 8th and 9th. That happened and both were terrible.
  22. You really don't get how the MLB draft works, do you.
  23. Betts also had veteran guys like Napoli, Pedroia and Ortiz to show him the ropes of playing at the major league level. Who on this team is a comparable mentor? Maybe Story? Possibly Contreras, but he doesn’t seem the leader/mentor type.
  24. Still pretty well hit; the encouraging thing was he actually went oppo. He needs to go that way more. I’ve said several times that he should use the Monster ala Boggs.
