  1. What would really help our chances in the first round would be to have the Yankees close the gap with the Rays to 1 game between now and the final weekend. That would force both teams to go all out to fend off each other and not allow them to set up their rotations for the first round.
  2. Magic number to clinch a playoff spot drops to 6 with 12 games remaining. Texas will be throwing out all stops the next 3 games as they are not only fighting for a wild card slot but also for the AL West title.
  3. One nit: the only way everyone isn’t home for Halloween is if the World Series goes 7 games. But your real point is noted.
  4. Plate umpire didn’t wait very long to go out there. He’s pissed right now.. This may not go well.
  5. I posted before the game that Cameron has a sub 2 ERA over the past month or so. This was unlikely to be a high scoring game
  6. Cameron has been pitching extremely well lately; his last 5 starts have yielded a 1.74 ERA over 30+ innings. He’s held the opponent scoreless 3 times including a complete game one hit shutout. This will be tough, especially given the Sox are not as good against lefties.
  7. With Toronto’s loss tonight, the Sox magic number drops to 8 over the Blue Jays and Texas (pending the out come of the Rangers-DBacks game). It remains 7 to eliminate the Orioles.
  8. Actually, I find him boring, and I only see his posts if someone replies.
  9. That was stolen on Moran,; huge jump. Most bases are stolen on the pitcher, not the catcher.
  10. With losses by both Texas and Toronto today, the Sox magic number for clinching a playoff spot drops to 9
  11. A lot is when you play a team. Even bad teams have good series/weeks. They just don’t happen too often. Good teams have bad series/weeks. As for tonight’s Angels pitcher; he’s had a 1.7 ERA since the start of August (when the Angels replaced their pitching coach and then entire Angels staff has improved the last month as well.
  12. Johnson has a 1.7 ERA since August 1; this is going to be tough to overcome. Would have preferred the Angels take another couple days to start playing well.
  13. Small correction, the magic number is 10 Toronto is still in the 4 slot. 163 - 80 Sox wins - 73 Blue Jay losses = 10. Same math applies to Texas, who also are at 73 losses. Sox do not hold the tiebreaker over Toronto as the Jays took the season series 9-4. They have 3 left with the Rangers; Sox took 2 of 3 earlier this year. To get the magic number, you start with 163, not 162. If you use 162, two teams that have the same record would both get their magic number to 0 vs each other but neither would have clinched a playoff slot (I’m not getting into tiebreakers). In theory, one would need 1 more win (a winner take all playoff game in the old days
  14. 13 clinches the #2 slot over Cleveland. For the #3 slot, 163 - 79 Sox wins - 72 Blue Jays losses = 12. Put another way, the Jays are 72-72; the most games they can win is 90. The Sox have 79 wins, so 12 more is 91 which eliminates the Jays.
  15. The number has dropped to 12 with 18 games remaining. It’s still the Blue Jays the 4 position.
  16. The Sox magic number for clinching a postseason berth is now 16 (over Texas and Toronto) with 21 games remaining. They are done with the Blue Jays for the year and have 3 games left at Texas.
  17. Biggest play of the game IMO was Jones’s slide that prevented the double play. Without it, Sogard never comes up in that inning..
  18. It was about Duran and George Scott, put it in the wrong thread (reposted in the game day thread). It does bump my post count up so I can get closer to get to whatever number I need to get the delete function..
  19. He refused to play tonight? You have something to back that up or are you spouting your usual drivel.
  20. The only thing I can offer on Duran is a lesson from George Scott nearly 60 years ago. Boomer hit .over .300 in 1967 and then followed that up with something around .180 a year later
  21. Durbin hit that hard, but if Young had missed it, it was right at the O’s second sacker.
  22. Wong showing why he shouldn’t be an everyday catcher; he looks exhausted. He’s fine as a back-up playing a couple games a week, but he should not be playing 5 a week.
