Exactly....back to hoarding as many mediocre players as possible is our approach now? (this is to the OP) Instead of buying more blankets, why don't we insulate our house better? -
I'm sorry but why in the hell does everyone here thinks we have a DH in a 22 year old that received a 8 year deal? He is freaking our left fielder. Breslow needs to get his head out of his behind and move beyond this stupid notion that he's going to be a part time DH for us. This really pisses me off. Clean out the roster full of mediocrity. It's like he sees comfort in having multiple reiteration of middle of the pact lineups. Ugh!

Yes....but my point is more of we need a good DH, not a revolving door to give bats to all the players not playing defense on a particular day. I only bring up Story and Yoshida because they have not earned their paycheck and I'm sure you can come up with 10 names that we've wasted money on....maybe that's why Henry is cheap. We have millions of dollars not being productive. It's always about the allocation of money. We have not chosen wisely.

Bres is an idiot when it comes to DH. And I would say it to his face. Let me see, I would take a defense first shortstop and combine the salaries of Yoshida and Story ($41M) and signed Schwarber. I bet you my combination would have helped the Sox more than what Bres did.

I hate Bres answer to the question the team was projected to win 92 but you only won 87...something like that....He answered obviously had we known the injury to Crochet and Anthony the projection would've been different. I doubt the projection had the contribution from Tolle factored in either. It just sounds like an excuse. Players will get hurt. Bottom line. this team was not good enough to win the World Series. "hoping' is NOT a plan. Sorry Old Red, I don't know why I 'responded' to your thread.

We have $53M to spend. Gray and Sandoval gone. Whitlock is technically FA. Club option are $8.25M for 2027 and $10.5M for 2028, Doesn't it seem high? CC covered by arbitration players Adley and Wong. 1B covered by Contreras 2B covered by Mead/Arias SS covered by Trevor/Arias 3B covered by Durbin LF covered by Anthony CF covered by Rafaela RF covered by Abreu DH covered by Yoshida SP Crochet, Suarez, Tolle, Bennett, Bello I know its slim pickings but shouldn't we be able to trade for a 30 HR guy for $25-30M? At some point we'll have to sign a Schwarber ($150M/5yrs) or Alfonso ($155M/5yrs) type. And perhaps they'll have to bite the bullet like upcoming season. We have $40M in expiring contracts in Yoshida/Story. I would include that in this year's budget/spending knowing it'll be gone in 2028. So spend $93M. That should get us a bat or two.

Pretty sure we have Bennett for 6 years. He was called up on May 1st. He missed first 36 days, accumulating 149 days of service time. He needs 172 days.

Team full of mediocre offensive players will produce mediocre offense. I really don't become attached to players on a bad team. It's always can I envision this player on a world series team? Crochet, yes Tolle, yes Chapman, yes Suarez, yes Whitlock, not a big fan, I just don't trust him in a must need situations Abreu, yes Rafaela, yes Story, hell no Anthony, not sure anymore so on so on..... We don't have enough pieces right now.

Let's also hope Breslow remembers what he said after last year's playoffs. "Good teams have power" Why are we keep playing small ball? Power bats are needed in left, right, 3B, 1B and DH. Prioritize defense up the middle. No amount of analytics will change the old axiom.

Roman Anthony 2026 $2M 2027 $4M 2028 $8M 2029 $15M Lets hope he earns his keep by 2028. Right now, he's nothing more than an over-hyped player. Abreu is better at this point.

Off topic but what kind of contract will Gray be seeking? The Sox has the club option for $30M where Gray can opt out of it. Will he go for longer years at less annual value? He will turn 37 in November.

Kudos to the team for making the playoffs. But Even with the addition of Tolle as a bona fide starting pitcher....we're missing our big arm, Crochet. I'd feel pretty confident with the team's playoff outlook sending out Crochet, Gray, Tolle and Suarez. Not having that #1 is a big loss. You definitely can't have enough good pitching. -
Definitely not wasting my time watching this idiot pitch. 2-0 already and no one out. Who signed this guy? Breslow? $18.25M. I hope we let him pitch for 8 innings.

We have solid starting pitching. I think power plays in the playoffs and we're lacking in that department. I seem to recall Breslow saying something about that after the World Series. Lack of follow through on his promise as it relates to power will come back and bite him in the ass.

I only care about the team. If it's only about the players then I don't have to be a Sox fan.

This now looks like Breslow's team. Cora is gone. Trevor and Yoshida will be gone after 2027 season. Really no other big contracts lingering from 2023 and prior seasons. Holdovers include Whitlock, Houck, Kutter, Rafaela, Duran, Wong, Casas and probably few others I'm missing.......

We don't miss Devers when you consider the additions afforded to the Sox as his contract disappeared. That's all I need to know.
