I have a hard time believing they can or at least will dump both Story and Yoshida. I'd be interested in seeing how he could do if he could just focus on hitting.

All true things. Random thought of the morning. It would be the most Red Sox thing ever to dump Story for Arias and Story goes on to OPS .850 and bash 30 HR next year. But, if Arias WERE to start, I think Story stays. Maybe Yoshida is the odd man out?

Exactly, without looking it up I think we could do the same thing with the Orioles as well, probably the Rays. A top 10 draft pick is like a lottery ticket that has a much much much much much much higher chance of making you rich, but you still have like a 60-70% chance of winning little to nothing. But the odds drop off closer to zero after the first round.

I think you leave him off the 40 so he can play if theres a lock out. If he looks like he's ready I'm not about keeping him down for a few months just to gain some service time. Which you could still lose if he gets ROY. At this point just play Arias at SS. Upgrade elsewhere if we must. I'm sure Durbin has value, package him up and upgrade 3B. or a likewise move.

Well he can certianly start the season in WOO, something he would not of been able to do if he was called up this year.

I wonder how the PPI picks would work if Arias started the season in WOO, but then ALSO started the season in Boston?

If an Overpay is adding a prospect in the 4-10 range I might bite, if by overpay they want Bennett or Tolle on top of Arias and Abreu then I laugh and walk away. At that point why wouldn't you just keep Abreu in your lineup, Tolle in your rotation and give the kid a chance at SS. Might he fail? sure, but given what he's done in the minors and the hype around him I could get on board with giving him a shot over Trevor Story.

I think it's more probable than not that they start Arias in Woo and unless he struggles or is injured he's up super quick. But I wouldn't be 100% surprised if he's given an opportunity to start out of spring training either.

I do not know what his future holds, but he's certianly one of our top trading chips. If we want to trade for a premium player there's a very short list of guys other teams are going to demand and he's on it. Or....maybe he's the starting SS in 2027?

I think it is quite possible that the Sox didn't want to part with Arias and the Reds wanted a MLB package. That doesn't mean they didn't like Arias either.

Negotiations that never came to any fruition. Did the Reds not want Arias or like him? or did the Sox make an offer and the Reds countered with "We want Tolle and Abreu" and Brez said "goodluck" and that was that. Reality is a deal never happened, and if there was enought interest on both sides to make a deal we have no ideal what that final deal may have looked like. OR DO WE???? we have an offseason coming up

I remember everyone saying the Sox were dumb and they would have drafted Meadows. Like, ya'll didn't know a darn thing about the guy you just saw his name next to Ball a few slots higher on some pre draft rankings and he played outfield. We had to draft outfielders at the time because our outfield sucked. But we were literally not far off the emergence of Betts and within a few years we had Benintendi/Betts/JBJ in the outfield by the time Meadows would have been MLB ready. Just another good example of why you don't draft for need. That was such an awful draft in hindsight.

Maybe, but they have pretty much their entire offense under team control for the next couple years with young guys like Turang under control until 2030 & Chourio until 32' This might be their peak, but they might be living on this peak for the next 2-4 years.
