That .825 in the 3 hole really stands out. I wonder who it was that caused that number to be substantially higher than other lineup spots.

Here is a summary by slot:

1. Duran .742 (496 PAs), Anthony 1.003 (132) Romy .876 & Ref .873 (both with 39 PAs)

2, Devers .905 (334) Bregman .705 (217) Anthony .782 (61) Story .581 (51)

3. Bregman .893 (276) Duran .862 (112) Anthony .828 (88) Story .818 (58) Toro 1.048 (48)- Anybody & everybody did well up 3rd. (Except Abreu)

4. Story .815 (199) Narvaez .762 (118) Abreu .506 (75) Ref .874 (63) 4 others had 42-55 PAs)

5. Story .754 (175)  Abreu .898 (155) seems like his slot! Romy .859 (71) 5 others had 25-69)

6. Story .673 (130) 15 others had 15+ PAs here

7. Nobody had more than 84 PAs here (Ceddanne .513)

I said that in my post.  That you always need a little injury luck. All teams.  But I dont think we're particularly balanced or deep.  I think we hinge on Duran, mr doubles and triples.

Our bottom of the line-up was better (balanced) than most, last year, and I like our depth better this year.

Nobody has a 4th OF'er like ours.

Romy, IKF and Monasterio/Sogard/Eaton look like better than average infield depth.

Wong may not be an above average catcher, but last year might have been the outlier- not 2024. We also added better ML ready catcher depth with Contreras (emergency only) Seagler & Thaiss.

89-73.  I wish the ball went over the fence more.  But this is a good team - and might be even better if Story moved over to 2B.

I think most are in agreement that Story at 2B would be a better alignment defensively.  I'm not sure why Cora isn't considering it.  I don't think Story would be opposed.

My prediction is for 91 wins and 2nd place in the division behind the dreaded team that shall not be named.

Story actually might be, and Cora probably doesn’t want to risk any more position changing drama…

Second behind SBF?

That could be, though Story willingly (I think) played 2nd base to accommodate Bogaert back in the day.

Agreed, and he probably figured it was just for one year.

Hell, Bregman was willing to defer to Devers at 3B, and he was awful on D.

I think Mayer being made of glass probably scares Cora a little.  But I do think it is the best defensive alignment - and maybe everybody figures that out as the season wears on.

Mayer has a photographic memory. At least he remembered to take pics of all the guys in cowboy hats at the Story Camp. Duran, Mayer, Romero all looked good in black, but someone talked Anthony into buying a burgundy hat, and well... at least they have photo evidence.

I reckon it's for the same reason Durbin will be at 3rd - Romy. He's going to be the platoon for Mayer when he's healthy, and rather than move Story back to SS when Romy comes in for Mayer (Romy will have to play 2nd), they just live with Story's D for one more year (which isn't terrible) and not move parts around continuously to manage Mayer. If Mayer proves he can stay healthy and move on from platoon status they make the switch next year.

@Hugh2 Do you want us to try and reopen the poll?

Oh yeah, I wanted it open right up until opening day.

I figure it fair for people to change their mind as spring training advances.

You may have to remind us to close it later on. Not sure what happened to it closing early.

That makes a lot of sense.  I don't want to see a lot of moving parts either.  I really would like to see the Red Sox commit to Mayer as a full time player as opposed to a platoon player.

I agree, but Mayer’s has to prove he can stay healthy first, and then be able to hit LHP.

Yes, I agree that he does have to prove himself.  I guess the question becomes, how does he prove that he can hit LHP if he's being platooned?  He's not going to get any better at hitting LHP if he's not given the opportunity to face LHP regularly.

I agree, but that’s Cora’s way with the younger guys.

If Romy begins the year on the IL, maybe Mayer gets his chance at FT play on day 1.

To me, Romy is like Ref: he needs to start every game vs LH'd SP'ers. If Duran is at DH, I'd rather he platoon with Mayer at 2B. If Masa is at DH, maybe DH not 2B.

Look at that.  Fourth best team in the AL.

Look at Cincy.  20% when they made the playoffs, and had 85 Py wins instead of 83.  If Burns lives up to his reputation, they can win that division.

They have us above TOR, which I agree with.

The AL has 6 teams at 55% or greater, while the NL has 5 teams at greater than 43%, Major difference, there. (NL has 5 at 62.6% or more.)
