  1. The problem with that logic is, if you're not willing to allow any context into your thinking, you have to accept off the past month that Durbin is one of the best players in the league. I don't understand why people look for absolutes all the time, in a game this random.
  2. There's no point getting angry over what you think he might do. He didn't deserve to get tossed the night before either. And it kicked off according to the pitcher because Contreras brushed past him and didn't apologise (he did, clearly).
  3. I expected to find everyone on Contreras' side, but Talk Sox has the constant ability to bewilder.
  4. Old Red seems to have issues keeping a consistent line on most things tbf. Apart from his obsession with Moon. He's very consistent with that.
  5. I'm not sure we're guaranteed to only get 90% now/soon. Make it known you're going to trade them soon and teams needing what they need to contend for WS and pennant races as well as those looking to solidfy wild card spots should bring all the market you need. Especially as you're offering them another month of them both (which could be decisive in Chapman's vested option clause). Teams do get desperate at the deadline, but there's virtue in overpaying to get someone early, too.
  6. I assume few are looking to buy just yet too, with the draft coming up taking their attention. That would bring some semblance of sense to the fact we haven't yet sold off. If Gray or Chapman get injured pitching over the next month I'll fly to Boston and slap Breslow into next year myself. Contreras is the really interesting one. The whole league is looking for RH power and we've probably got the best asset available in the league. But, we trade him and then we need to fill that hole ourselves in the winter, at a time of lockout, and a dearth of players available on FA. It would need to be a very enticing offer, and we may well get it. As soon as the draft is over - sell it all. Restock the farm and hopefully we get a high pick next year.
  7. I like Durbin, always have. His defence is superb. Hopefully this recent hitting form is more like what he is going to become. If so, he will be a very good player for us. Time will tell, but I'm sure as s*** glad we have him over Bregman right now.
  8. Breslow should already be sacked, just for not having the foresight to understand there is no run coming that might put us in contention. Although naturally, his main hesitation is desperation not expectancy. He knows a sell off is the ultimate review of the job he's done, even if it is fair to say this team should be better than it is.
  9. People get love sick over their favourite players. They can't see past their hatred for the ownership or FO. All that adds up to said player never being to blame. No sir. We've got enough problems going on right now, I'm just glad this waste of space is not another one of them.
  10. Devers, always on the right side of history. What a guy.
  11. I become more and more glad we got away from this guy with every passing day. Interesting timing from Cora....
  12. Guided, sure, but we don't let them guide us, we let them be the evidence and truth of everything. Which is just counter productive and blinkered. Not having a go at anyone, I'm as guilty as anyone.
  13. I haven't checked but that's bizarre if true. This feels like the worst Sox team I've watched, and yet, oddly, it also feels not a million miles away from being a contender. Some of the players are playing way below their level, and some are just not good enough, but a smart deadline and summer, and I really believe that we will be a contender next year. The problem is, I hold no hope we'll have a smart deadline (or summer if Bres is still there).
  14. There's no point wondering what Devers might have or not have done, there's no point looking at his numbers and transporting them directly to if he'd stayed here. We don't know anywhere near enough of the variables. The trade might have rocked him, he might be have issues settling in SF (SF media certainly hasn't taken to him), he might have personal issues, it might just be a down year, he might hate the limelight that's come his way after the event, or a whole myriad of other reasons. The problem with making absolutely every argument stat base is that we forget human beings play this game not numbers. That said, I have always been happy we've gotten out of that contract as it's certain it will go bad at some point, and I hated his attitude throughout the whole debacle. But we all boil these things down to numbers far too much.
  15. It's a shame this offence is so anemic as the defence and pitching is great. I don't know how we fix the offence. It's going to be difficult (putting it mildly) with the roster and value of our trade options right now.
  16. Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand hate and vitriol for those reasons.
  17. I didn't want Bregman for those years or money, but felt we had painted ourselves into a corner and needed to get it done in the end.
  18. I've been somewhat surprised by how many people are going to bat for Cora and the coaches. We've been horribly prepared for most of their tenure (we weren't even prepared for the ABS system). We've made a disgusting amount of errors for most of their tenure. And there was clearly two camps ignoring each other when it came to hitting. Then add in the regression of everyone this year... It was absolutely time to clean house. Whether they've got it right, we'll soon see. As will Breslow as it's his show now. I also feel quite uncomfortable with the hate Breslow gets. It's different to others I've seen, more viscera and personal. It's quite odd.
  19. Yes and no. Having some more veterans on the team would have been very valuable to the team. Hearing all the recent stories about Bregman, Anthony at the very least would have be in a better place with him here. Bottom line is we put a lot of pressure on players to carry the offence that weren't ready. Bregman was the big miss.
