Not much of a home game when almost none of the players on your team have been here long term.

must be killing jersey sales. have to head to MLBTR to see the next BBB the Sox acquire

I thought the hometown cooking aspect was more about the fans onsite than the stadium or sleeping in your own bed?

that last point is bloody obvious isn't it?

I wouldn't care about the last part if he just stayed out of the way. He still seems to muck things up from time to time. Maybe Theo will help? Maybe not?

Looks like Whitlock got his elbow internally braced and could return in 2025 . Don't think I have read anything less interesting unless it was the Red Sox lineup this year

There have been others in here who have been voicing the same concern for years. As far back as Mookie being traded, Bloom caught a lot of the blame for that and still does but I had been saying since day one that was a front office move.

Henry has gone rogue, and not in the good way.

Meh. After the 86 year curse/drought, he brought 4 WS wins. During that same period, 2002-2023, the Yankees, who have consistently outspent the Sox and who overall have won a whopping 27 WS, have won 1 WS.

So I refuse to jump on your anti-Henry bandwagon, not because I'm happy with the current state of affairs, but because I just watch the games on mlb.com/tv (and miss some of them because of the insane blackout restrictions) and because I was a Sox fan for 54 of the 86 years of the drought/curse.

The Sox fans who should be raising the biggest fuss are the ones who go to the games at Fenway.

Interestingly, the attendance at Fenway increased quickly after JH took over and had several seasons of 81 home game sellouts, which led to increasing the Fenway seating capacity by about 1,000 (from 36.7K to 37.7K).

However, by 2013, the year the Sox won their 3d WS under JH, attendance averaged just 34,979. In 2018, the best season in Sox history with 108 wins (plus 11-3 in the postseason), it averaged just 35,747 and in 2019 36,106.

Then came covid in 2020, and in the 4 seasons since 2020, average attendance has averaged 21,300 (in 2021), 32,408 (2022), 32,989 (2023), and this year 31,311.

In 2002, the last year before the JH era, the average Fenway attendance was 32,716.

Casas reportedly is making terrific progress and could return on the 60th day, June 21. Yoshida is hitting off a tee. O'Neill is on 10 day IL with a bad knee. He struck out 10 times in 15 at bats before Cora pulled him from the lineup.

I think you can be against someone without being ANTI that person. I appreciate what Henry has done in the past and think he has it in him to get back to being an owner that at least acts like he cares, but that doesn't have to be mutually exclusive from him being absent from this team and unwilling to invest in the big time splashes that fans want.

I think he's recognized this to an extent by hiring guys like Theo to come in, but not showing up to Dustin Pedroia's HOF introduction is inexcusable. In the absence of a death in the family he has no good excuse for skipping out. He did skip out right?????

The fakest home sellout streak of all time. Scalpers had so many tickets they couldn't unload, but it would still count as a sellout for some games.

Are you blaming COVID or the product on the field for the attendance?

I blame Fenway Park, not the product on the field. That's why I cited the average attendances in 2013, 2018, and 2019--all seasons before covid and all seasons when the product on the field was exceptionally good.

As for this season, 2024, I'm astounded it's still over 30K/game. Except for Devers, this is a no-name team that commits a lot of errors and can't score runs.

To me Fenway is the worst ballpark in MLB. I've been to just two games there and both times it was like watching the game through the wrong end of binoculars. The ticket prices are insane, and the food is expensive and so-so.

On the other hand, I never had a bad seat at Camden Yards, Royals park in KC, Philly (the old park), Griffith Stadium (old Washington Senators park), or the new Washington Nationals park.

As a professor once commented on one of my ug papers: "This paper and argument at least has the virtue of being a novelty."

Well, you should have been around for the arguments 20 years ago when they wanted to put a new Fenway near the water.

You got me. The Trop is much, much worse. And maybe Wrigley is too. But the simple fact is that Fenway is over 100 years old and has lousy sight lines for some seats. Camden Yards and the new Nationals Park have nothing but good sight lines. Ditto Royals Park in KC. I do like that you can use public transport to get to Fenway, but so can you (the Metro) to National's Park.

Casas only fixes 1B. They still have massive power outages at 2B and CF. The bottom part of the lineup are AAA hitters.

...and O'Neill can't fix that, unless we move Rafaela to SS FT.

With a middle IF or Rafaela & Grissom, it's hard to expect much offense or power.

why are we all fooling ourselves --Sox are going to finish somewhere between 80-82 to 82-80 and Henry will be satisfied especially if Breslow can unload some more payroll at the deadline although with this new expanded playoff format that may not happen either.

i think you're being optimistic. i hope i'm very wrong, but i stand my prediction of 72-90 and last place again.

Few things have come to fruition.

1 Let Rafaela bat 9th and ket him figure our. His defense is as spectacular as advertised.

2 Cora was right about Abreu. He can hit. And he has shown that he can play defense.

3 Duran has proven that he is everyday player.

We need our 3 best bats to come from 3B 1B and DH. Unfortunately one spot is injured and other spot needs to be aquired for.....it ain't Yoshida.

To think many here wanted Houck in the pen.

I didn't have crystal ball. Just that we gave everyone an opportunity to start.

78-84 wins. I’m not fooled.

i actually hope you are right with a 72 win prediction. Of course I would prefer this team win over 90 games and become a true contender but as long as they flounder around .500 nothing will change.

I made it to Portland, today. I'm only staying 3 weeks, this summer, then I'm taking the wife to Spain & Portugal.

I think my streak of watching consecutive Sox games, some on tape delay, will end in June.

A shame, but Spain and Portugal sound great. Could not agree more with your trip.

I'm staying for 4 days with an old friend I haven't seen in 30 years, who lives an hour from Sevilla, after landing in Barcelona.

We are later meeting some friends from Mexico who are travelling the area around Porto, Portugal.

After spending some days with them in Porto and Lisbon, we will rent a car and drive down the coast to Faro.

From their, we fly to Bilbao for 3 days, then to Madrid for 2 days before coming home in mid July.

We went to Europe 12 years ago for 9 weeks. It took us 2 months to plan, almost every night after work for 2-4 hours.

Enjoy! If you get a chance, take a tour of Sevilla,if you never been. The Barrio de Santa Cruz is a wonderful neighborhood. I lived there for a couple of years in the early 80s. Sevilla is my favorite city in the world.

What makes you think 72 wins changes anything?

The Sox won 71 games in 2014 and nothing changed…

Apparently, I’m stuck in my own little corner.

No, that's me, actually. I'm 68 years old and still working because I have to support my wife, daughter and grandson. I love to travel but man is it pricey. A lot of the fun in my life comes from this forum. That should tell you everything. :D
