They'll probably end up tweaking his arm angle. It seems to me (and I don't claim to know anything conclusively) that he may have a mechanical problem that stems from his arm positioning after starting his throws. We shall see.

i agree with this. the kid has a rifle for an arm, he is coachable, and he doesn't seem to lack any confidence in his abilities. In my estimation, arguing to move him off third considering how this team has played this year, makes about as much sense as me arguing to move Betts into the third spot in the lineup or maybe even suggesting that JD could see more time in the outfield as opposed to less. lol In spite of Dever's errors - in spite of Betts being robbed of more rbis - in spite of Martinez playing more in the outfield than some would like - We still got ourselves a damn good team.

im excited that JBj is back in the lineup. his outfield presence was missed the past few games.

Manager Cora: as long as JBj is 1 for 10 (.100 batter) please keep him in the starting lineup. thanks!

that extra hit over the course of 3 games is meaningless. although many of my fellow posters on this site will try and tell you otherwise. but you and i both know that games are not lost because the #9 hitter is a 100 hitter. and he is 70 points better than that!

I think JBJ will return to his average for the last 3 years. About .250 , .780 OPS, 60 ish rbi's for 145 games, about 15 HR's.

I don't have a big problem with his bat because of his great D.

BUT . . . Right now, JBJ needs to sit, & he needs to listen! He needs to keep his head on the ball, and go with the pitch. Sitting on inside fastballs almost exclusively is getting him tied up in knots.

Every swing is the same these days. He's swinging from his arss, tilting his head left, and his eyes, shoulders, & head are flying to the right.

Remy nailed it yesterday, & I've slowed down his every swing for the past month. Juxtapose JDM's swing with JBJ'S. IT'S night & day. JDM keeps his head on the ball all the way through the swing. He goes with the pitch, and has solid "head discipline" all the way through.

Jackie is simply flailing away up there, & not seeing the pitch all the way through the zone.

He needs to sit for a while.

Interesting if he plays tonight.

Manaea vs. RHB .257 ---.202 vs. LHB career.

Also Oakland helps Manaea big time, 3.26 ERA at home 4.39 on the Road-Career.

Always stay away from Oakland Pitchers in a Trade. It's a Mirage.

Catfish Hunter in Oakland 80-39 2.39 ERA

In Yankee Stadium 24-28 3.81 ERA

Career for both.

6-8 with a 4.80 era in his career at Fenway.

Nope.

Right now, I'd take a kid, with a SOLID glove, who is a decent hitter & very good prospect.

I am probably. Preferably, I'd use a solid 3rd base prospect in house, or a semi-decent hitting journeyman 3rd baseman, & send Devers back where he belongs. I'd give the kid the time he needs to develop. He's actually worse than Panda in the field, and CAN'T hit breaking stuff.

That's my big concern. He simply needs a couple years to learn, slow things down, & season. He's simply not ready for the mlb.

I think the most misused word in the English language has to be "can't". Devers has had 400 career plate appearances in MLB; what he can and can't do is still a mysery to most people, possibly even including the Sox staff. Now what he has done and hasn;t done might not be, but just because he hasn't done something doesn't mean he can't.

I'm also not so sure I'd say he hasn't hit breaking pitches. I might go so far as to say he has struggled against sinkers and cut fastballs, but that is all.

There are 17 players hitting under .200 with enough at bats to qualify. Some names inlclude Matt Carpenter, Jason Kipnis, Joey Gallo, Chris Davis, Ian Desmond, Kole Calhoun, Dexter Fowler and Carlos Santana.

All of them are staying in the majors...

You can gamble tonight against a tough Lefty.

If he gets some good swings tonight, even Outs, depending how they are hit. To jump Start him.

Or Defensive Replacement.

I would gamble. Late in the season...no. If he is struggling at the plate.

I have to laugh when I hear a major league player can't hit breaking pitches. If it was true they wouldn't have made it this far.

Well that's not entirely true. Sometimes they can't hit a specific MLB quality breaking pitch.

Lots of them.

They have a special name for them - pitchers.

When that pitch is thrown exactly the way the pitcher wants to throw it, right?

I mean, if Hitter X simply couldn't hit a slider, period, no matter if it was a great one or a lousy one, pitchers would throw him nothing but sliders and he'd strike out every time.

No doubt. I won't lie. I'm frustrated as hell with JBJ, & his back-sliding, but that is one of, if not the best OF's in mlb.

DFA JBJ. He didn’t make a catch last night because he didn’t force Cora to put him in or something......

People are getting carried away with this. Exaggerating their opinion of JBJ , both with the positive and negative aspects. The reality is that he is a better hitter than he has shown so far this year. He will have a hot streak and improve his numbers. On the other hand , while very good defensively , he simply does not make a whole lot of plays that other centerfielders don't. That is a myth. He is what he is. Let's not go overboard one way or another. There is no chance of trading him for anything of much value. The idea of releasing him is absurd. In the end , he will be what he always has been. The team has the best record in MLB . Leave well enough alone.

Very well said. I have been challenging the idea that Jackie takes away a hit a week than other CF don't take away all along. My position was more out of the respect for the other ML CFs than it was a slam at JBJ. We see him make a great play without realizing the guy in the other dugout could have made that play too.

You are right, he is what he is. And he has always been an inconsistent hitter. But you just can't keep trotting an automatic out up there, even with a first place team.

Umm play Blake Swihart full Time in LF ??? Give the kid 100 bats and then make a decision ...JBJ is cooked .JBJ is not coachable his is a written and turned in evaluation .

He isn't in a slump. He has demonstrated over the past couple of days he cannot (for whatever reason) hit basic ml fastballs. Enough already.

Today:

.167/.513

And he is starting tonight.

Now .161. In all my years of watching baseball, I don't recall a non-catcher regular position player hitting this poorly this late in May. It's embarrassing to watch.

He is completely lost. He couldn't hit off a tee right now.

Swinging through 90 mph fastball after 90 mph fastball is just embarrassing.
