  1. Not sure a month into the season is the best time to go outside to find a manager, a legit big time manager. Hiring from within made sense at the time. But Earl Weaver was not saving this team this season.
  2. So many people wanted Cora fired. Looking at the record and the team's performance it's obvious to me that Cora was not the problem. I don't believe for a second that the team had bailed on the season after 27 games and winning no longer mattered on April 25th. No they fired Cora because they felt he was a major reason the team was 10-17. They promoted Tracy because they thought he could turn around the season. And they were wrong. This is and always was a personnel problem, not a manager problem IMO.
  3. Yeah the Cora haters have been pretty quiet. I didn't know that about Durbin but it adds to my concern. I'm getting pretty convinced that our player development sucks.
  4. I was never confident in Bello, he's been given enough opportunities for me to kind of understand where he is. For the life of me I don't know why they bailed on the opener set up. It wasn't Bello's fault they couldn't find someone to get 3 outs before the game got out of hand. But that was a weird deal and perhaps unsustainable. Campbell is the one that frustrates me. I mean what happened to that guy? I was all for the extension, I never expected this and neither did anyone else.
  5. I never claimed you said "impeccable". But that was the comment I have been responding to. I don't feel the need to list the major moves that were not good. I'm simply evaluating the GM the way every GM is evaluated, by the record. And nothing about this record indicates he had an impeccable offseason, just the opposite in fact. And the holes, specifically the lineup and the middle relief, were obvious all along.
  6. Sure doesn't look "impeccable" to me. There is much I can add to the Moves Not Made list. Again 6th inning relievers are just not that hard to find, this lineup sucked and we all knew it in March.
  7. The ones that lead to 37-48 and last place, again. I kind of need you to defend your "impeccable" comment regarding Breslow's offseason.
  8. I'm frankly stunned to read this, then doubly stunned when the next poster agreed with you. How anyone can say his offseason was impeccable is beyond me. He added Contras and built a very good starting rotation. That's it, that's the list. You are what your record says you are. We all knew going into spring training that this was not a contending lineup. They had zero hitters that scared anyone, they put way too much stock into unproven talent and people like Trevor Story who has never produced here. I had serious concerns about the pen outside of Whit and Chapman, they are worse than I even imagined and it just ain't that hard to find decent 6th inning guys. When someone uses Durbin as an example, a player who has hovered around the Mendosa Line all season and proclaims "it doesn't get any better than that" I really don't know how to respond. The question is what now? I firmly believed all season that with the turnover at the GM spot, and given how candidates rejected the Red Sox over this, they had no choice but to keep him. But he is responsible for this last place roster and now I believe he simply must go. ,
  9. This is what I am seeing as well.. He was blowing teams away, now every time out there is traffic. But Abreu, that's another story. He had a bad game, he's still one of our better all around players and an excellent right fielder. He had a bad game.
  10. In the game thread the day before I posted that when they go to the 9th down 4-1 they just give up and get on the bus. That post didn't age well I'm glad to say. Never expected that comeback in the 9th, very happy for Duran but very concerned about Chapman. Could the magic be gone? Face it, we got blind lucky that he found the strike zone in Boston but it's always been a dicey situation.
  11. I was stunned when they showed the stats that the Sox are one of the highest scoring teams late in the game. Sure didn't seem right to me. I recall a ton of games where they went into the 9th down 4-1 and just laid down and headed for the bus. Do you recall a lot of late inning comebacks?
  12. Good to see the bats finally waking up. I had to believe Durbin wasn't this bad. Duran is another matter but spanking the Yankees is always a good time. Starting pitching has been tremendous this season, as has the improved defense. Yankees every time I see them play just don't make plays that are there, and commit a lot of errors. Allowing a runner to score from 3rd on a 160 foot fly out was embarrassing. Almost as bad as when Yoshida was unable to score from third when the first basement conceded the run because he had a 1 step lead off third. That was the low point in the season for me. I have no idea why the Yanks have been trotting out Volte for several seasons. Every time I see him play he sucks.
  13. He's half way there and it's June 18. I think there is a great chance he gets there, Hell if he's close they can always utilize him in a non-save situation to get to that 40 inning mark. He has enormous value but he is also one of the few reasons to watch this team and I'd hate to see him go. He is a badass.
  14. It was my understanding that if he pitched 40 innings and passed a physical at the end of the season his contract extends to 2027.
  15. What a terrible place they find themselves in. If they trade Contreras and Chapman they have pretty much punted 2027, if it happens. But they should obviously be sellers at the deadline.
  16. I'm wondering if there will ever be a 2027 season. Getting the players to agree to any form of a salary cap will be a huge hurdle.
  17. I'm confused on the Theo thing. Just what is his role? He has no interest in running a team again? That's a shame, I'm pretty confident he could right this sinking ship.
  18. I was stunned when I saw that he was starting. Why mess with something that was working? No I would have continued to trot out bodies until they found someone capable of getting 3 outs in the first inning, Bello was nearly lights out in his role. We put this decision with the clown show that is the 3rd base coach and it is clear to me that we are being run by amateurs.
  19. Contreras has not been the problem, he has also made our infield defensive far stronger. We should be discussing other players.
  20. This team is unwatchable. I was never high on Mayer, he never showed me can hit major league pitching and he may never hit major league pitching. Just so f'ing depressing. We needed Early to be lights out, which of course is ridiculous. I knew he wasn't sharp when his first pitch was 93 and was as in the middle of the plate you can get. But he was not the problem, the same old problem was the problem.
  21. Last night showed what is so great about sports: You never really know what's going to happen. Looking back at the first page the posters never expected this team to hang up 9 runs, nobody did.
  22. I backed up that ball Wong hit a number of times. I'm convinced the angle that made it look like the ball disappeared over the wall was simply an angle where the ball was not visible against the yellow background. The angle from home plate shows it hitting the top of the yellow line and bouncing back in play. Poor Connor, thought the HR drought had ended.
  23. Because he has been good as a set up man and I don't trust anyone else in that roll. What's the point in getting to the late innings with a lead if you are going to trot out Weissert in the 8th?
  24. After seeing so many of our top prospects fail to deliver in the Bigs I am struggling to get excited at our players in the minors.
  25. This Bello thing is fascinating to witness, he is the pitcher we all were hoping for right now. But it is just so frustrating that they can't find a body who can get 3 outs to start the game. You can't burn Whit in that role, this bullpen depth is pathetic. Where the f*** is Roman Anthony??????,
