Red Sox record with JBj starting: 26-11. .702 winning %

Red Sox record without JBj starting: 7-4. .636 winning %

Your dedication and perseverance against all odds can be quite admirable, Slash...

Especially when I agree with your position of course.

All these numbers show is that WAR can be a very deceiving stat. Arguing that JBJ was responsible in any way for these figures is kind of a weird argument but you seem to like to make it. Over and over.

But I sure was happy to see him putting the bat on the ball recently. I feel so badly for that guy, he deserves good things to start happening for him.

Well Bradley former get a lot of his, But when he gets one he does score. 21 hits, 20 runs scored. While hitting in front of Betts helps, Bradley is certainly benefiting more than the catching duo.

Maybe if Bradley got 8 more empty hits a month, ones where he was left on base. Maybe then fans would like him more. ..

True. It's easy to get down on Bradley when one thinks about all the RBI's the teamcould have if JBJ could just get on base. I agree that JBJ needs to just plain GET ON BASE more, even if it doesn't result in more runs scored though.

WTF LOL you have to do something about this, seriously...under the law we are all responsible for the technology we choose to use.

I think what the numbers show is that a +2 WAR player vs a 0 or -1 player probably doesn't make that much of a difference over a 45 game sample size.

A couple game saving catches does not equate to +2 on WAR, but it might have been enough to offset the possible -2 JBJ had on offense. (Hypothetical scenario)

Slash might even be right that pitchers feel more comfortable throwing certain pitches knowing JBJ is in centre. There are so many intangibles in this game that no metrics can possibly ever measure.

Does he have zero walks on the year?

Actually, he is quite good at drawing walks. I was just into typing that up fast. He has 13 and 5 HBP...

He plays. They win. It actually does work out even if he Ks three times.

So much for, "he plays, they win." If I read those percentages right, the Sox lost one more game in 2016 and again in 2017 when JBJ was in the lineup.

More glaring is this little gem. Mookie has missed 4 games this year, and the Sox won 3 of them. Small sample size? You betcha. But so are slasher9's numbers, as mvp78's percentages demonstrate.

I do like, however, notin's numbers of 21 hits, 20 runs scored. This does not mean he's dynamite on the basepaths--especially not when he can't remember how many outs there are--but does mean that the bottom third can help a lot just by getting on base because Betts and Beni are next up. Mookie is 2d on the team in rbi's and Beni is tied for 3d. I thought those two singles by JBJ last night were darn important. He scored 1 of our 4 runs and had 2 of our 7 hits.

I have my doubts about JBJ, but have almost none about Cora's judgment. If he says JBJ should play, he should.

Why do we discuss things on this site. If Cora believes something is right then there can be no discussion? Cora is fine, but he isn't the Pope.

Why do I need to listen to the pope about baseball?

This non-Catholic holds the current Pope in high regard but even the pontiff is not beyond reproach.😊😊😊

Is that a deliberate misinterpretation of what I said? Please note the prominent use of the pronoun, "I." I trust Cora's judgment. You may feel differently.

Indeed, I have repeatedly pointed out why I have doubts about JBJ's hitting and overall value. I think all that stuff about his incredible, amazing game-saving defense is exaggerated. I would not have started JBJ in the last 3 games. But Cora did, and it paid off in terms of JBJ's hitting because his defense affected none of those games' outcomes. Credit Cora with doing the right thing.

I also think it's fun to puncture some of the JBJ hype, which mvp78 did the best, but I very much enjoyed pointing out that the Sox won 3 of the 4 games Mookie didn't play in.

Pope Francis grew up in and lived many years in Buenos Aires where they love football and the tango and don't know squat about baseball.

Just last weekend I was talking with a Buenos Aires native about Argentina's lack of interest in baseball. My sister-in-law's beau will skip my daughter's college commencement next month because the event conflicts with Argentina's opening match in World Cup soccer.:)

I actually agree with your thinking about JBJ. When a player has an extended streak of pathetic hitting, his value to the team is greatly diminished. I think his fielding is excellent but question whether it makes up for the hitting. Cora is more patient then I would be and my view has been that if we have a better option, it should be implemented insted of JBJ. So far, Cora gets a bye since he is a new guy and his methods need a chance to prove out. So far the team is doing well. My question is will he take action if and when it becomes necessary? My problems with Farrell was that he seemed almost inert and I likened him to Buddha, standing in the dugout and above all that was going on. I prefer an activist manager.

The thing about a guy like JBJ is that you just don't know if and when he's going to come out of the slump. He won't come out of it sitting on the bench. Cora did give him some time off.

He didn't look completely helpless last night either. I think JBJ is going to be given a long leash.

Yeah that was very encouraging. Who knows, maybe he can figure it out. I didn't notice, were his hits on fastballs?

You maybe remember I regularly defended Farrell, but in the end had no quarrel with what happened. Managers are hired to be fired. That said, I like what I've seen of Cora, especially given the circumstances: huge salaries and with them expectations; replacing someone who won one WS and got to the ALDS twice with two 93 win seasons; a bunch of young guys plus veterans; an owner who fired one manager after one season and another after one or two; Hanley Ramirez.

Other than that I give Cora a huge amount of slack, we pretty much agree.

Source? It may be true, but it seems like a dumb thing to say 2 days ahead of time.

That was my reaction too. I just heard it on the radio. The local DJ is a big Sox fan and has always gotten his facts straight in the past. But I'll see if I can find a link.
