That's what is meant about hindsight being golden.

Yup. Those wanting Brez to be bold last deadline would likely see this team with no Tolle.

When the Sox got Schwaber a few years ago, he too was injured and didn't play for almost a month after the trade.

Peavy was also on the IL when the Sox acquired him in 2013…

Rutschman is a stud behind the plate and with the bat.  He’s still in his prime.  He has great chance to have a career like Varitek.

Hopefully, Breslow offloaded the right minor leaguers.  I wouldn’t call any of them blue chippers.  Adley is a proven star performer.

Exactly. When the Sox got Chris Sale from the White Sox they traded their top 2 prospects, Moncada and Kopech. How did they turn out. Average players at best. The players the Sox gave up for Crochet: Teel, Montgomery, Meidroth. Teel injury prone, Montgomery an unknown, and Meidroth an average player. Prospects are just prospects until they do something and most don't ever become stars. I like this trade. It makes the Sox better now. I also like Erik Miller. Good bullpen guy. Sox can win in playoffs with pitching and defense and the hitting they have. Mead also will be back by the playoffs. I like their chances.

This is my take as well.  We've seen first hand how prospects fail.  A 3 time all star catcher in his prime is an incredibly valuable asset.  I'd roll the dice that he becomes healthy and productive again over a few minor league players being better.  I really don't understand why this is being called the worst trade in 30 years.

I'm glad they are out of the Macro Mayer business. I never felt he was going to hit at the major league level and with so much invested they would have forced him into the lineup and he would continue to kill rallies.

I’ve mulled this trade over for awhile now and as much as I hate trading solid pitching prospects, I’m liking this trade right now.  I’ve never been a big fan of Narvaez and we replaced him with a real good one.  I’ve always liked Wong as a second catcher.  Our team has obviously been playing at an elite level and one of the things that hasn’t been mentioned is that the chemistry of what we have going was not changed at all with this move.

Why bother getting White if Duran stays?

This confused me all of yesterday. But after sleeping on it, I think it makes sense. They don't really have cover for Abreu and Raf if they go down, especially in defensive ways. White gives them that and they can load up against LH'ers now.

I was saying all week, people should be prepared for the price.  These trades always cost a lot more than we think they will cost.....still, this feels like an overpay.  I'd love to know what the Yankees offer was.

Despite that, I don't care, this team is going for it and Adley is a really good catcher.  If they can regain his bat he will be elite with his defense, and even if he hits just as well as he has this year it's still going to be a massive boost to the lineup because his bat replaces Narvaez.

The deal makes more sense if they extend Adley.

Tek was the last all star catcher for the Sox, that was nearly 20 years ago.  When was the last time our catcher could even be considered a good player?  I loved Vaz and I guess he fits, but that's a stretch.  This is in incredibly important position and RH's defense alone should get fans excited.

If he can get healthy and they can extend him, and the O's tried and failed twice so no certainty, they could have very well landed a cornerstone player at a premium position for prospects who most often do not pan out.

I just don't understand all the hate.

Like this trade, or not, but you can’t really say the chemistry has not been changed. We replaced a catcher who knows the staff very well and has been excellent on defence and calling games., with someone who has to come in and learn the entire staff. Not saying it won’t work, but there are few things a team can do that has the potential to disrupt chemistry more than switching up your catching 2/3rd’s through the season when the team is on fire.

White confuses me, too, but I don’t think he was acquired to start in LF.

White can run and throw.  He’s redundant with Eaton.  But a worse hitter and I don’t think he has any options left considering he’s like 32…

Bres explained his role in an interview yesterday.

I'm wondering if he will platoon with Duran in LF? we won't lose anything on defense and White is likely a boost to the lineup vs. LHP vs. having Duran in there.

I don't think he's worse than Eaton, he's likely an offensive upgrade over Eaton.

I should probably go watch this interview now before assuming he's a bench bat/platooning with Duran.

White has a career OPS+ of 72. Eaton has a career OPS+ of 70.  As offensive upgrades go, this is redefining minimal…

Brez said White could spell Rafaela or Abreu once in awhile. He didn't mention Duran (who has a lot less vowels in his name).

So White was acquired because he’s a good speller?

What’s next? We learn Erik Miller was acquired not because of his relief pitching but because of his mad algebra skills?

Well since Abreu, and RAF Man pretty much play everyday whom he would fill in for that only leaves Duran.

And what did he say?

Get out once in a while, and you would see, and know these things. Plenty of interviews yesterday, and today already.

Figure it out the rest of the year and move  Duran in the off-season

The rise and fall of Duran's stock has and may continue to  be hard to project, but normally player value is highest at the deadline, especially a player with multiyear control at arb prices.

We should have traded him for the best we could get.

Like we did with Mayer- a questionable trade.

Brez said he wouldn't use the expression "algebra skills" to describe a hard-throwing albeit-wild southpaw. Too many variables are the constant concern.

It seems Brez has changed his tune. He said he’s trying to get out of the habit of winning trades, and just now trying to win games. Way to go Brez.👏

If there’s a chance to insult people and put them down, you won’t shut the f*** up.  Hell even if it involves making up the chance, because why wait for people to be wrong when blatantly lie?  But any time someone asks you to follow up with useful information, and suddenly you go silent or say something stupid like “we’ve gone over this already.”

So f***ing useless.

Some of us don’t live in New England and were more swamped with stories about why a team loaded with pitching injuries would acquire Braxton Garrett and that Cookie Monster was the guest singer during the 7th inning stretch…

Yes exactly! Get out once in a while by staying in and watching interviews on your TV/computer/phone.

The one thing Adley has proven lately is that he has been injured. If he can get over that, the trade can be worthwhile. If he continues to hang out in the trainer's room over the next 1.5 years, it's not worth it.

With this trade, the Sox are paying a premium for a name. He's a good clubhouse guy. Great to have in your org. Someone you'd put a C on the jersey. He just needs to stay healthy and he hasn't recently.

The general opinion around the league is that it's a large overpay, that the deal should have been done for one less prospect probably. This deal is probably a bigger deal than what they paid for Crochet. For only 1.5 years for an injured Adley is A LOT. Maybe it works out? He's been very injured the past two seasons. Maybe that's just bad luck? Maybe it is a sign of where his career is headed?

I think it means they are going to DFA Eaton once Story comes off the IL.
