Sure, if he comes back healthy. Red Sox med staff hasn't even gotten their hands on him yet. lol

But we could have gotten Hicks as an upgrade offensively without giving up a top 15, kept Narvaez for his D, and used any of those other very valuable chips to get another big upgrade somewhere. If Adley comes back healthy very soon, I may walk this back a bit. But again, big if for me right now.

The big plus for Hicks was the pre-arb status.

He's a single A OF'er who has hit over .825 in 4 seasons.

The prime years doe a starting catcher in MLBB is in the 27 to 30 YO age range. The average number of games started behine the plate is in tthe 90 to 110 range while the number of games played in is in the 110 to 130 range. Lets hope Adley can give us that kind of commitment going forward.

Rutschman also gives the Sox another leader in the clubhouse.

He also knows the AL East well.

There's no doubt in my mind he makes the Sox a better team, especially going into the PO's.

A Catcher who can hit and is healthy could start 90-120 games at Catcher and another 35-45 as the DH.

If Rut is 100% healthy, I could see us DH'ing him some, but if Yoshida keeps doing well, maybe not. (We could see Yoshida in LF, if we bench or sit Duran more.)

Uberstine gave them pitching depth with options.  White I think has no options, cannot hit very well, and is probably the lesser 4th outfielder than Jones.  White can back up CF, although in his career it has not been his primary position and he’s probably less than Duran out there.

If the Sox needed another bench outfielder, Braiden Ward maked more sense because at least he can be an elite pinch/ghost runner…

No doubt, if he's healthy, we will be a better team, since the only MLB player we gave up was our worst batter in Narvaez.

This is what big deadline deals are supposed to do.

The return package can still be dissected and debated.

We added Miller to take Uberstine's roster slot.

Miller will likely be on the 26, so someone better than Uberstine will be demoted.

Does Miller have options?

Yup, and Rut has played about 58% of his games in 1.6 seasons. That's about the 2026 Narvaez GS rate.

We replaced our worst bat with a much better one. We certainly should be better this year and next.

I'm not down on RUT, but we should know he's missed a lot of time, and us Sox fans knows how that usually goes, so we should be worried.

Not sure, but it doesn’t matter.  Walk issues are the only thing that keeps Miller from being among the best LHRP in MLB.  Actually they keep him from ranking higher; he is among the best LHRP.

I don’t like giving up Mayer there, but Miller is no slouch.  His option status is irrelevant.

I think he either pushes Weissert to Worcester or spells Bennett with Bello moving back to the rotation or going long after an opener…
