No, the Dodgers got swept by a team that was 57-51 before the series started.

Huh? I think this series was a lot more important to the Red Sox than the Dodgers who are just kind of coasting along. As MVP said on another thread if this was a WS game the Dodgers wouldn’t have started a BP game, or some of the other pitching moves that made last night. Beating the Yam Man was legit though.

You can spin this deal any you want but in the end it’s a huge overpay

you boys put a finger in one ear and listen good, as an Organization YOU Scout Draft and Develop Catching, you don’t trade for it, you don’t spend in FA on it and you don’t trade Starting caliber pitching for it !

the position is to labor intensive after 3 or 4 years behind plate these players go to DH or 1B and that’s if they can hit..

Breezelow trade grade D

I’ll Quote the great Tito Francona “good luck with that”

Let’s revisit this in 1 year……. or 2 if you want to see how Witherspoon turns out. I give Breslow a B+ he is evolving as a CBO. And we are going for a pennant.  Sgo Sox

Mayer was a bigger reason Mayer got traded.

Maybe being reunited with Devers will help…

Rutschman also gives the Sox another leader in the clubhouse.

He also knows the AL East well.

There's no doubt in my mind he makes the Sox a better team, especially going into the PO's.

Exactly. When the Sox got Chris Sale from the White Sox they traded their top 2 prospects, Moncada and Kopech. How did they turn out. Average players at best. The players the Sox gave up for Crochet: Teel, Montgomery, Meidroth. Teel injury prone, Montgomery an unknown, and Meidroth an average player. Prospects are just prospects until they do something and most don't ever become stars. I like this trade. It makes the Sox better now. I also like Erik Miller. Good bullpen guy. Sox can win in playoffs with pitching and defense and the hitting they have. Mead also will be back by the playoffs. I like their chances.

Agree with that. I don’t know if injuries held back Mayer’s development, or he just wasn’t that good. Maybe some of both. Maybe a change of scenery will do him good.

Agree with most. Sooner, or later this hot stretch is going to come to an end, and how healthy, and how good they are playing come the postseason will really be the determining factor.

The prospect the Sox got from the Giants for Mayer, in addition to Miller, has some impressive stats and is just 21. In 168 minor league games, he has hit .314, 12 HRs, 85 RBI, 64 SB. Carlos Gutierrez.

Those wasn’t even the calculations speculations I was talking about.🙈

Someone said we paid more for Rutschman than the Dodgers paid for Skubal.  I was explaining that the return that Detroit received was higher than the RS package.

What were you talking about?

For sure. I was never advocating for Skubal. I was advocating for using our eggs to fill multiple baskets instead of putting them all in the hopefully healthy catcher basket. If he comes back healthy and plays well, and the staff doesn't miss a beat, I'll change my tune real quick.

There were moves I'd like to have made, such as Spring, Gausman, maybe Bieber, Adell, etc.  But the RS have all the insider information about Anthony and Crochet.  If they feel both will be available in September, then none of the guys I liked meant anything, and maybe they preferred to ride with what got us here, other than a big move at catcher.

Playing in markets like Boston or NY isn't for everyone. Just ask Carl Crawford or the Panda.

Dude he is a legit catcher….. for prospects and an automatic out at Catcher… plus his agent is Dan Vertlieb which tells me, he comes to Boston we have a magical Aug/sept. He will be jonesing to resign with Red Sox

last yr everyone was lauding CV as a steal from the NYY. I cautioned against putting too much faith in his strong 1st half and sure enough he fell off the cliff in the 2nd half and this year as well.

I’ve been saying playing in Boston isn’t for everyone for years. Some guys can flourish, and make names for themselves going back to Hawk Harrelson, and then Kevin Millar, and of course Ortiz.

No.  The FV rankings of the LA prospects were higher.  And Rutschman should have a good bit higher WAR in his 1.3 years than Skubal will have in his 0.3 years.  Two playoff runs v one playoff run.  Plus a draft pick if we do not re-sign him.

unless the sox have a deal in place for him I hardly doubt that JH will buck up for him.  The Orioles were said not to be interested in what he asking for albeit they apparently have a C in waiting to replace him..

some other factors to consider:

!} When will AR be ready to go behind the dish for the Sox.

2} what happens if there is no 2027 season as feared or at least a shortened version. Did we give up 2 top P prospects for maybe 100-125 games of AR?

3} Does anyone actually have faith that JH will actually splurge to extend AR.?

Far yoo many questions for me to be high on this deal.

Sox now only one behind the Yankems in the all important loss column.

Amazing.  We were 15.5 games back of the NYY on 6/24.  That was 40 days ago.

2) If the season is canceled, which I doubt, I'd be shocked if owners gave any service time to the players.

3) There is no monetary reason not to spend on Rutschman.  We'll have $154M in cap space.  That doesn't mean we'll like AR well enough to extend him, but money is certainly not an issue.

Questions to be asked, and questions to be answered no doubt. How much, and how long would you splurge to extend the Rut Man who hasn’t been to healthy the past two years?

The other thing worth noting is Red Sox MLB pitching rotation for 26 and 27….. I honestly don’t think either Eyanson or Witherspoon would have broken in to the Red Sox rotation.
1. Crochet

2. Suarez

3. Tolle

4. Bennett

5. Houck/ Crawford/ Oviedo/ Bello

plus you can go out and add a Gray/Bieber type on a 1 year as well.

it makes a lot of sense to me.

or we can go out and sign another rehabbing SP ON A 2 Yr deal when we know he won't throw a single pitch in yr 1 and then MAYBE be ready in the 2nd half of yr 2. Cause we've never gone that route have we?  Better to do that then extend Sonny Gray for a few years.

Here's an interesting stat. The Sox as a team have hit 111 HR's. Their pitching staff has given up 111 HR's. What's the odds?

This. He's supposed to be ready by mid-Aug. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm definitely crossing my fingers. But there are multiple ways this deal goes bad, with the worst case being an injury and/or early exit, and a lockout next year.

According to google AI, the contract time is burned. If they lockout a full year, he becomes a FA.

Correct. You know Boston's shrewd FO. How many years will it take to resign a 30yo catcher? Cubs will offer 5. lmao
