it’ll be ok… braves, Brewers, Astros did nothing……

Who cares about them?

Yanks, Rays and some NL teams, maybe.

We just need to improve the team and keep this mojo rising.

My issue is that could be a big assumption. Adley 2 years ago and this deal is fine. But a 28yo catcher with injury concerns is a big gamble. And I'm a gambling man by nature. It could very well work, but I don't care for the risk to reward ratio.

A LOT smaller of an assumption than those other guys are gonna turn out.

WE GOT THE ONLY MIDDLE OF ORDER BAT TRADED. The best position player to switch hands today is a Red Sox.

There is an actual chance Narvaez outplays Rut. Highly doubtful, but not insane, if Rut keeps on the IL.

We gave up 3 of our top 6 prospects, and our farm is ranked highly. These guys might have been #1, #3 and #4 on many teams.

Ha ha ha ha say it right now now……….  take the actual “chance” bull crap out. Do YOU moon believe Narvaez outplays Rut over the next 15 months?

Nate Lowe has better numbers and is not on the IL.

Look, I get your point, but is any package too much for you?

Taylor Ward his 36 jacks last year and has a .383 OBP this year.

Reminder that 15-20% of these guys turn out.

Yes, I know that. I never said don't ever trade good prospects. In fact, more often than not I'm in favour if the player is worth it. But if you're going to trade the farm, you should get good value in return you can immediately take to the bank. Not a question mark. The downside of this trade is scary. The upside is we hope he stays healthy, has a seamless transition with the pitching staff, win the world series and/or there isn't a lock out next year. and we resign him to a decent extension, A team that was on absolute fire without him.

Not sure if he’s a middle of the order bat but he’s a lot better bet to contribute than Narvaez, who has almost been an automatic out. He costed a lot but the players we sent over were prospects only-like Mayer, our former #2 prospect.

Ya’ll might be too young to remember a swap way before divisional play.  Sox needed a power bat, the got a guy named Danny Cater and gave up a pitcher who you may have heard of…Spark Lyle.   See ya later Danny Cater got a grand total of 5 hrs in his time with the Sox.

They also traded a pitcher named Slocomb if you got 'em, and got Tek and Lowe.  I'm not sure what the point is other than some trades work and some don't.

Of course not. Do YOU believe Rut plays more than 58% of the remaining games on his contract? That's the percent from 2025 to today, and he's on the IL, now.

Narvaez looked good, last year. He could regain form, but it's highly doubtful.

Eyanson looks like the real deal. I know you gotta give to get, but why Witherspoon and Azocar, too?

You can't just hand out countless lottery tickets and expect none to win.

BTW, I'm gonna sleep on this trade before making my decision, but as of now, I'm highly skeptical.

And they make for a good conversation piece for years after.

I think this team has done too much leg work, 28-5  last 33 to not do anything today. And I do believe if the Red Sox didn’t get Adley the Yankees would have. It was a position of need, and we upgraded there greatly on paper. He does have injury history, and next year if lost would be a big haul for a rental.

It's not about them all turning out. Chances are they won't all be great. It's about getting proper value for what they are worth at this moment. We did not do that. Just look at the market today. Nobody overpaid like we did. Yanks got Garcia for nothing in comparison. Rays got Hicks for a few 15-25 prospects. Not saying Hicks is better than Adley, but he's healthy and younger, and having a solid year.

We also traded Vaz for Abreu, and many more good trades for prospects.

I'm glad we got a catcher. It was the position that made the most sense, to me.

I think we overpaid for sure, but these deals have to be. The question is was it a gross overpay or an absurdly gross overpay? If yes to the second Q, then it sucks. Yes, to the first one might be okay. If none of the guys we gave up ever do well, it might not matter what Rut does. It's a push or better.

I believe it's much too early to state that the Sox overpaid.

Word is Hicks sucks on defense, but the guy has hit well and been healthy. He's also still pre-arb!

He's almost at .800 and on pace for 20+ HRs. Gotta like the .363 OBP.

Offensively Hicks is having solid year agree…..

Pitchers are easier for Red Sox to reproduce/ sign. I think if I try to look at as winning the trade, Breslow did not win the trade…. But the path of getting the better player for the postseason IS now in place. Great with pitching staffs BTW.

Cotillo said the Red Sox could have gotten Kertel Marte this past offseason for Early, and Mayer, and now instead have Miller, and Meade for better , or worse.

Anyone know where Mike Greenwell is?  I  remember in ‘87 he came in to catch in one game, it was about as bad as it gets?  I’m sorry, I apologize, I think Mike passed away.  I’m just pissed about this trade.

He has.  But I remember that game, and the first thing the opp did was lay down a bunt!.  Can't remember the outcome, but I do recall his path to the ball wasn't great!   Greenwell also, I believe, declined his salary with a Japanese team when he felt he wasn't playing well enough.

The point about the Cater for Lyle trade was set as an example a comparison of what happened today.  Yes, trades can go either way, but when you are left with one catcher on your MLB roster and the other on the IL until who knows when when, again the comparison is that this deal makes zero sense on way too many levels.

Certainly, the deal is TBD.

Trading  2, 3 and 6 ranked prospects from a highly regarded farm system for a player on the IL and who has played in just 58% of his games since 2025 seems like an overpay.

You expect to overpay on deadline deals, especially for the better players.

Let's see how it goes.

We replaced our worst bat- the guy even worse than Duran, Story, Mayer and everyone else.

OPS+

53 Narvaez

55 Story

64 Duran

70 Mayer (He's gone too.)

95 Seigler

97 Anthony

Rut is at 115 in 2026 and 115 career.

I’ve thought a lot about that one. I wanted him so bad. But now looking at Savant page, I like this team. IF Arias is HALF of what you guys said he is, then we are ready to roll. Get Arias up, and Anthony back LFG…

I was very high on KMarte, last year. I'm not so high anymore.

I like Mead and I like Early about the same. We needed hitting.

Mayer-Miller is a lower-level trade that may not matter at all.

And Rogers will backup our backup…

I've said all along, I'm fine with rolling the dice at middle infield and LF/DH, if we get a real bat at Catcher.

We got one, if he can just play 75-80% of the games.

Miller will help us this year. Mayer would not have.

I'm not excited about a 6.1 BB/9 rate. We had that with DHern.

True on Mayer.

There is a chance Miller hurts us, while Mayer did nothing more good or bad for us.
