  1. IP watch on Jake Bennett He has 133ip not counting tonight. Last year had 75.1.
  2. I agree. Worst thing to do is change catchers mid season if you don’t really have to and it wasn’t an immediate need IMO. Not more than a starter. We’re getting smashed tonight with this Paez guy in there now. A starter would have been so much more useful. Breslow panicked when Mead went down when he should have just got the starter and waited til mead was better.
  3. If You think Bennett and Tolle will be good come October then ok. I don’t. Definitely don’t think Bennett will start the playoffs. Maybe Tolle, but he’s going to be about 70-80ip over last year if they don’t manage it. He could use someone to allow him to skip a turn in sept. Suarez hasn’t looked great either. He could also use another skipped turn. hence the need at the deadline for a starter. There were names we could have got as a rental or someone that had a couple years of control. “Guys get hurt”…he was on the IL when he was traded for and had been injured most of the last two years. HE WAS ALREADY HURT, and is again for the second time since we traded for him. Should have just went with Gasper. That’s my main issue with this trade. We gave up waaaay too much for this guy. Add in the looming possibility of a lockout and it turns into a 2-3 month rental where he’s sitting on the bench as much as he plays. Neither his offense or defense is anything special. an often injured catcher was not more important than a starter, like we did with Peavy in 2013. It gave our guys the opportunity to get some rest and be more fresh for the playoffs. It is baffling to me. Especially for what Breslow gave them. My God. There were names out there to be had. We didn’t need a front line guy. We could use one right now to give guys rest like we did in 2013.
  4. Not looking good. I’m sure someone in that organization is regretting not getting a starter instead of an oft injured catcher made of tissue for their two top pitching prospects plus…. Just sayin… https://heavy.com/sports/mlb/boston-red-sox/adley-rutschman-injury-news-red-sox/
  5. This has been my main concern this year. We had a ton of MLB ready depth that he just seemed to very easily let go and rely on 4 oft injured starters, who ALL ended up injured all year again, and never really replaced the MLb ready depth.
  6. You’d figure Breslow would have been smart enough to go with the starter if it was 50/50. And the fact that he gave up the farm for this guy is mind boggling. Did they scout him? He hasn’t been that good for a couple years and was always hurt. I mean, we could argue all day about it, but Adley would NOT have been my first choice with a package like that. I think Breslow will regret it. Dude is a fn mess at the plate and he’s a fat ass. It’s embarrassing
  7. Yeah, I agree. To me, yes, We could have used another bat. Especially with injuries. I would have liked to see something else done though.. Whether it’s a lesser catcher and a starter like you suggested, or just go all in, like they did with Adley, on a better starter. oh well, what’s done is done. I hope Tracy can navigate the pitching.
  8. The bar was set low for an upgrade there, so it wouldn’t have taken much to be better than Narvy. I’ll say it till the end of the year. They needed a starter way more than they needed a catcher. mead is coming back Anthony is now back IKF and Story are healthy again. they didn’t NEED a catcher more than a starter. It baffles me Breslow would prioritize catcher. Especially for what he paid for. An oft injured catcher who is already hurt again.
  9. So far it looked like Adley is very average and hasn’t made much of an impact at all. I still believe they will regret not getting a starter and it may cost them like it did tonight. Are they going to have an opener in the playoffs? Can Tolle and Bennett make it through September. These are legit concerns that Breslow seems to not be worried about. That in itself is concerning. Sandoval and Suarez need to step it up. Gray is the ace and is pretty much pitching like it. Bello is still Bello and can’t be counted on.
  10. Bennetts Fb is down to 92-93 but his offspeed stuff has got them fooled. We have a group of pitchers, not just throwers. Well done young man.
  11. Bennett has looked like he’s struggling to find a feel for his pitches. Maybe a long layoff wasn’t good. Maybe being almost 50ip past last year is starting to affect him. 4 seam is hanging around 93-94 not 95+
  12. Very true. I hope we can make this work somehow.
  13. no worries, I get what you’re saying.. I mean, I admit I can go a bit overboard sometimes. Though my point is valid. a lot of times we seem to agree but come at it from different directions and sometimes it seems there’s a disagreement when there is not much of one at all. if everything improved so much then how come we’re in this situation? We can say injuries and that would be valid. We can also say that there is not enough MLb ready starters in the org. Right now that can help out because he traded all of them. Also valid. We can also say it was a dumb idea to rely totally on often injured guys like Sandy Houck Oviedo and Crawford like he did. Valid. main complaint from me that we both agree on (I think)🤔 is that we could have used a starter more than a catcher for a playoff run. It seemed he didn’t even bother with it much which was odd to me. If we have a lockout then that Adley deal is going to look bad. I’m not as confident going into the playoffs as I was.
  14. Who said anything about Harrison being a horse? All these guys were nothing but depth for me.. if any of them worked out in the rotation, then great, but they were depth in my eyes. That’s it. He got rid of a bunch of healthy arms and relied on a bunch of often injured players to carry this team through this year and every one of them got hurt again. He had a chance to get a starter at the deadline and he failed instead he overpaid for a catcher. he should have got a starter with those players. I guarantee a starter would have helped this team more than Adley will.
  15. Only Bennett. Maybe Tolle, but he should be ok. Might have just see where he’s at come the end of September. Harrison had plenty of IP so he would be fine. Drohan may have hit one around the same time as Tolle. bennett had TJS so that’s obvious.
  16. That’s why we needed a starter at the deadline. At least Harrison and Drohan were MLB ready. Nobody we have really is anymore. They just made it to AAA. Those two were at least ready for the show or in Harrison’s case, already had some time.
  17. Not what I meant. I meant what pitchers did we acquire to replace the ones we let go. All the depth. Who replaced Early? Was he relying on a bunch of guys who have been injured to come back strong this year? Houck Sandoval and Crawford should not have been relied on until they proved they were 100% healthy. he got rid of a half dozen guys and then Early. Oviedo, not his fault, but still yet another arm needing to be replaced that wasn’t. Some trades were good as we discussed but some made no sense. It wouldn’t have been my plan going into this season. bottom line is we needed another starter at the deadline with all the issues/concerns in our rotation. He kicked the pooch.
  18. I’ll give him that. I’d rather nobody than May again. there were a few mid level guys we could have got if I remember.
  19. Yes, that’s what Breslow wanted. He should have listened to me…Obviously 😜
  20. That’s all I heard…haha, we got him when the NYY wanted him. We stopped Adley from going to NY. We had the chance to get a starter and have less worries than we have now and we didn’t. Breslow chose a catcher.
  21. What pitchers did he add that are going to help us with the playoffs this year? don’t say Bennett cause he’s about done. And Sandoval will probably have his issues before the years over. he traded away everybody that was ready to be called up. There is now literally nobody that is ready to come up that anyone trusts in a playoff run. we needed a solid arm like we did when we got Jake Peavy in 2013. Veteran who’s been there and can get us through aug/sept dog days. We NEEDED that this year. breslow FAILED to do that.
  22. That’s what I’m saying but it seems some people keep defending everything he does. It made zero sense to NOT get a starter and instead give away a bunch of top prospects to keep Adley from going to NYY.
  23. My whole point was they needed a starter in the rotation NOW. Not this offseason, NOW. the upcoming innings pitch limits are real. they needed a starter this year and they didn’t get one at the deadline . at the end of September you’ll all wish they got a starter instead of Adley. He wasn’t more important than the rotation
