Well, Boras is known for trying to get the most money for his clients, so.........

Sure, but it's kind of an instant logic fail that when he got no 200 million offers this year at age 31, he's going to get them next year when he's 32...

Even if he gets $175M/7 not $200M/8, next winter, he's made out well.

I think he may get $200M/7, next winter, after an explosive year with the Sox. Maybe we give it to him, after we realize what a great clubhouse guy he is.

And Boras was his agent last year, too.

If Bregman gets the $160mill offer, which I assume is over 6 years since they compared it to Matt Chapman, that means he would get $200mill over 7 years.  Certainly a good deal.  But if he stays in Boston all 3 years, he could equal that with a 4 year $80mill deal.  Will that offer be there at age 34?   Hard to say.  Christian Walker is 3 years older than Bregman (almost to the day) and got a 3 year $60mill contract this off-season.

That $40mill AAV is tough to walk away from.  If Bregman opts out, it makes more sense after 2026…

Personally I think next offseason could be ugly, with a CBA battle/lockout looming.

Not to mention the economy might be in the tank...

Please, no on the Red Sox giving him a 7 year deal.  The only reason that I am okay with his current contract is because it is only for 3 years.  Despite the much higher and rather crazy AAV, I much prefer this $120M/3 contract over a $200M/7 contract.

It could get ugly, and if it does, Bregman can just choose not to opt out and try again in '27.

I'd say give him an extra year at the same salary. Go ahead and give him another year of opt out.

Basically he signed for 4 years at $160M versus 3 years at $120M.

He doesn't lose anything because of another opt out.

Basically we are saying that HE WAS WORTH THE MONEY IN 2025 SO LETS GIVE HIM EXACT CONTRACT AND PRETEND IT'S DAY AFTER THE WORLD SERIES.

4 YEARS, $160M is pretty good security.

From the Sox perspective, which is better?

$160M/4 with optout after every season

or

$180M/5 with no opt out (or one after 2 more seasons)

What's better for Bregman?

Could be, I'm one of the most attractive posters on here, unlike you. 🤪

I heard there have been a few interested parties, but they want us to kick in all your salary.

More concerning news from Clickbait Central!

If anything, this should cause them to see the value in Breggie being a locker room leader and get them to work on an extension.

No doubt Bregman is a good player, and will help the Red Sox no matter what position he plays, but if he is the RHH the Red Sox have needed for the low, low price of $40M how much more production will he give you (HR, and RBI) than if they would have just signed O’Neil back for a lot less money?

Bregman did not give us the RH's power bat we needed, for sure, but I'm sure glad we did not bring back Mr. IL himself, T.O....

2025

O'Neill: .205  8  24 (.705 OPS in 180 PAs)

Breggie: .272  17  59 (.820 OPS in 459 PAs)

$40M is a lot. The one year aspect made it okay, and we would not be where we are today w/o Bregman.

As Bregman continues to struggle I can't help but wonder if he won't decide not to opt out and we get him next season.  Short term pain for a better long term result IMO.

His 2nd half performance has to have derailed his value at least a little

Ive said it before somewhere, but if I was Bregman’s agent, I’d flat out tell him if he opted out, I’d drop him as a client.

For all te crazy clickbait rumors out there for $150-200mill deals, players coming off seasons like Bregman’s seem to sign make-good pillow contracts more often.  Well, he is unlikely to find a pillow softer than $40mill, and he’s unlikely to gain interest from a team that plays in a park he is more suited to than Fenway…
