I saw Santana play in Portland last year. Well, they tried to play him anyway. His day is done. Once again, a nothing move.

He hit 444/941/1385 in Portland last year. He's good enough for AA.

He had a 979 OPS in AAA. Let him tear the cover off the ball there. Send the fans home happy.

Mookie Betts is gone, Benintendi is gone (and now a Yankee), but the Red Sox brought back Jackie Bradley! Let's hear it for Jackie Bradley and our great GM who brought the stud back to Boston. This all makes me giddy when I think of the moves that are to come.

moon has a serious case of Ref Fever.

Not really. Saying someone is better than JBJ is like saying a clown could be better.

Dugo? Duran?

All I'm saying is, as of right now, and this could change by season's end, I have more confidence in Refsnyder for the rest of the year and in 2023 than any other Sox OF'er.

Again, that's not saying much.

Danny Freakin' Santana!!!! Can't believe there were those here doubting that Bloom had something big up his sleeve. Get those post-season tickets now!!

No, but I thought you were somewhat opposed to placing too much reliance on small samples. Ref's sample is small and almost certain to regress.

I'm also not sure why you've given up on Verdugo. He's been one of our better hitters the last two months.

He has a 0.5 fWAR on the year. I'm not saying he's been good, but he's still been more productive than most of our hitters.

I agree, but I was hoping for 2020 Verdugo to come back. :(

Saying someone has been one of the better hitters the past two months, and I agree is not really saying all that much. Giving up on Verdugo is just making Bloom’s Mookie trade look worse, and worse every day.

I don’t get giving up on 26yo Verdugo while relying on 31yo AAAA journeyman Refsnyder….

The Sox shouldn’t just hold Verdugo for the sake of making the trade look better. But it’s also too early and IMO easy to just write him off based on some superficial stats….

I think the determination would be to keep one of Verdugo and Duran and to deal the other. Duran can't play CF and Verdugo seems stuck in LF. They are both LHB that play LF.

Can they get more for Verdugo at the deadline? IDK.

Dugy is what he is JAG. Nothing more, and nothing less.

He has a career BA of .284. Old schoolers used to think that was pretty good.

284 Ave is pretty good, but he just doesn’t seem that good.

I don’t think he is bad, or that bad an OF for that matter, but some on here do.

I think he’s a good player with the ability to become a much better player…

Saying Refsnyder is a better bet of wanting him over any other OF'er we have is not saying I'm "relying" on Ref.

I'm not "relying" on any of our current OF'ers going forward.

I'm okay with Duran or Verdugo in LF, but I don't think it makes sense to bring both back, next season.

My guess is Duran has more trade value, but he also has more team control, so it matters little to me, which one goes. Just do it.

I realize my hopes for Ref could be just a mirage, but I've seen enough of JBJ to want ref way more.

I can go on and on about the futility of trying to play 2 left fielders at the same time, and truthfully, Dugo probably projects to be a better bet than Ref, but I'm going with my gut on this one.

Aren't stat geeks allowed to do this? Did I miss the memo?

I like Verdugo far more than Duran and I think people just gave up on him in RF too quickly. He won’t be Mookie but he will be better than a lot of other options, including the dear departed Renfroe.

But Duran’s defense has been a massive disappointment. I’m ok with the up and down offense at this stage. I like the speed on the bases. But I’d rather see Franchy in CF than Duran, and I’m not at all advocating the Sox give CF to Franchy…

Refsnyder strikes me as the type of player we look at today and think “he needs to be back next year!” But by June 2023, we might just as easily think “why did this team keep Refsnyder again?”

He’s a fungible bench bat having a good season. His future with the Sox won’t faze me either way…

I think Ref should get every available AB against lefty pitchers.

His OPS against righties is .703 this year and falling. It's .602 for his career.

Giving him a steady diet of righties is a good way to eliminate his usefulness altogether.

.702 is buttah, on this team's OF.

Me, neither, but less so than JBJ, and one of Duran or Verdugo.

That's all I'm saying.
