You'd have preferred Bregman over Suarez + Durbin?

No, but Bregman was PLAN A, so I guess LOW Bres did, and that’s why no other move was made to get another 2B/3B that so many on here wanted until Bregman signed with Chicago, and then then Red Sox went out, and got a Cheap DUBin.

Is there a significance or meaning to that?

Nothing that a better BA wouldn’t fix, but it’s debatable if that will haopen.

He has company. IKF stinks too. There are others. All the while Henry is lying to our faces about his desire to present a competitive team. If he had just been honest and said that his top priority is to make the most money possible I could have respected him for his honesty.

I have no respect at all for him now.

A continued vendetta against utility infielders.

Durbin is certainly as issue. IKF barely plays, and with Cora gone is likely to see a down tick in playing time, assuming Tracy is not as committed to forcing platoons wherever possible…

Eaton isn't going to fix anything, but I'd take his bat over Durbin's bat if we're just looking at that.

For me, it really isn’t debating who the better player is.  They are both pretty mediocre and the trade was ridiculous.  It literally solved nothing.  Just another AAAA player with what some see as potential because he doesn’t strike out much.  Another nothing burger deal to go along with the rest.

They thought his bat would pop in Fenway with a pull air profile. Now it’s a pull ground profile.

Durbin is 5th in PAs (ahead of Duran, Rafaela & Mayer)

Durbin + IKF combined would lead the team in PAs at 151 PAs.

I kinda feel we could have gotten by with just one, since we have Gasper, Sogard, Eaton & Cheng in AAA. While none of these guys look great, are they really much worse than IKF? Together, they make less than he does alone.

At some point, we might have to consider limiting IKF's & Durbin's PAs.

.528 Durbin (5th in PAs) & .499 IKF (13th)

More from...?

.685 Mayer (8th)

.678 Monsterio (11th)

Gasper/Cheng or Sogard/Eaton?

In defense of Durbin, he's hit .659 in his last 17 games, which is close enough to Mayer/Monasterio to keep letting him plug away. Durbin is also .679 in last 10 games and .851 in his last 6 games, so now is not "the time," it appears.

If only Breslow had avoided IKF, the Red Sox could have almost signed Mauricio Dubon to fill that void…

LOL, and so many of us were screaming "Dubon, Dubon, DUBIN!"

"Brandon LOWE!"

"MURAKAMI!"

Not many fans do.  I hear someone flew a "fire Breslow and sell the team" banner above Fenway. I was totally against the IKF signing the minute it happened.

Not that it matters, but very few wanted Murakami, especially after reports about his BA dropping on fastballs above 94mph.  Which everyone’s do to some extent.  But he’s really a 1b/DH and doesn’t solve the 2b/3b issue.  Also he basically just hits HRs and singles.

Lowe is really a 1b/DH type that can masquerade as a 2b, but really shouldn’t…

Did you, like many others, think IKF was going to start?

I don't think anybody did, but with questions surrounding Mayer & Durbin, and Story's health records, we did think he might be used even more than he has been, so far. I also think the .499 OPS was a bit unexpected, although .599 would not have been, so maybe that's a bit overblown.

The sign Bregman crowd might have felt Bregman> Suarez+ IKF. (not me)

I think there was a significant amount who started calling Henry cheap and were upset about,  since it happened so soon after Bregman signed with Chicago.  And IKF has been a starter for the bulk of his career.

But he did sign a one year deal for utility infielder money.  He got $6mill. Dubon got $6.1 mill.  Refsnyder (not an IF, but a bench bat)l got $6.25mill.  Luis Garcia got $6.8mill.  Willi Castro got $6.4mill.    Not sure why some people keep insist we signed IKF instead of Schwarber, like it was a choice between those two finalists…

i'm assuming they know it would have been Schwarber vs Suarez or Schwarber vs IKF and no Gray trade.

Also, absolutely zero Alonso talk, although he was mentioned more than Schwarber and anyone else not named Bregman.

I heard some unsubstantiated chatter thr Sox made him an offer…

Yes on Alonso, and I think if you look at all the suggested signings by posters here, Alonso might have been #1, Bregman #2 and who knows #3? (Bichette/Schwarber?)
