  1. I'm surprised total bases is not a more popular stat. It factors in hits, extra base hits. Maybe create a new stat that adds sb, walks, and hbp to total bases and call it ultimate bases. A very comprehensive offensive stat that factors in most of the significant factors like obo, slg, and a pretty big one...games played. The best ability is availability....
  2. Those are al east champ numbers. Those HR totals were even over mine, and I thought I was being aggressive. Those are we don't need to go get anyone at the deadline numbers.
  3. 93 wins and 1st in al east. Pitching and defense wins championships, and Sox have them. They go get a big hitter before deadline. Obviously they have very few injuries to achieve this.
  4. Who said no interleague play? The 4 divisions is simply record comparison for playoffs/no playoffs. There should easily be a NFL style inter league rotation to change things up.
  5. I think I keep the 2 leagues to help spread that out. Maybe 4 8 team divisions, with 2 in NL and 2 in AL. That makes for the natural WS between the leagues, plus allows for the NYY, and NYM split up to separate the close teams. Cww, cle, Detroit, rs, NYy, Baltimore, tor, tpa in al east, kc, minn, lv, hou, laa, sea, tex +1 exp in all west. Cinn, Pitt, chic, nym, atl, Mia, phi, wash in nl east, stl, mil, cubs, ari, col, Dodgers, sdp, sfg, plus Utah in nl west. Pretty simple split roughly at the Mississippi, with only mil and cubs even close to any of the east teams, and that is white Sox in the other league.
  6. I am predicting a trade of one of the 5 OF's ( including masa) before the trade deadline to plug a hole from poor play/injury. Just too much surplus with too much depth in the system to not find a better fit with similar talent.
  7. They also said Devers was their third basement. Situations change. Versatility is a positive team friendly trait.
  8. Yes because we still have more than enough ammunition to go get someone when we define what/where we need them, and other teams are more ready to give up or fill their glaring hole. In season pick ups and/ or the ammunition to get them is part of our current status.
  9. And how would you have played all. To pay for them all they would have traded several players, probably including crochet. The people who just say overpay to get this player or that, then complain when you are stuck with players like panda and masa that can't be traded. You can't have it both ways. I like the Sox efforts so far this off-season. I think they still need 1cmore offensive player via trade, but they can probably wait until closer to the deadline to confirm what/where they need the help, and which other teams are out if it or have surplus/ needs that match up with the sox.
  10. I could see this as a year where they have 8 guys hit 15, 6 of them hit 20, 3 hit 25, and 1 hit 30. With top of the league pitching. And a super D I think it's enough IF...big IF...they get on base enough.
  11. We can never lose if we dont give up any runs vs we can never win if we dont score year. Should be fun. I suspect we can surely be buyers before deadline if we have a weak link, either one we suspect now, or one that pops up by then. More than one are probably unlikely.
  12. Do we change focus to a trade for a catcher? One of the bigger weaknesses id say assuming Durbin and Mayer have 2nd and 3rd locked up. It's either that or bullpen right? Still need to trade of extra body.
  13. It's an impossible situation. We can't cut offense trying to get offense. Probably our weakest everyday offensive player is cedanne. Not sure what his market would be in comparison to abreau or durran. I'd be more willing to trade cedanne to try to improve the offense without killing the D as the step down to durran in center isn't as large as the step up in the offense we could potentially get, especially if we were willing to add some strong prospects.
  14. And yet you talk about k rate as if it matters if they are not getting on base. Yes a k is slightly worse than an out that advances a runner, but it is not better than a simple fly out with nobody on base. A walk on the other hand is just as good as a hit, and the ability to manage the zone to get the walks also gets the better pitches to hit. Ops is not everything for sure, but obp is a VERY important indicator of how strong a hitter is. I value it probably more than most. I hate the 220 hitters with 30 Homer's that are considered good hitters. I'd rather the 330 hitter with 4000 obp and 12 homers.
  15. Exactly. They may draw the line with the best player in the deal, but that doesn't mean you can't get a couple more prospects in the deal.
  16. It takes two to make a trade. Houston may just draw the line for abreau. Maybe you can get to sweeten the pot or expand the deal.
  17. Latest rumor i saw on social media was abreau for parades. Probably like thst better than durran...although the loss of power is unfortunate.
  18. I know we have alot of fringe depth for infield, but are we better off getting a parades AND a Donavan like player or sticking with a mayer for second? With this pitching staff id hate 2 things. Poor inf D, and to just fall a hair short on offense. I do realize we could go get someone later as well.
  19. Top 4 pitchers seems pretty set to me assuming health with crochet, Suarez, gray, and bello. Add several possibilities for the 5th spot and plenty to help fill the pen and this is the best staff in mlb since.....?
  20. Is our current best lineup Curran in center, Anthony in left, cedanne at 2b, Mayer at 3rd, and Yoshida at dh? Seems like our current best balance of O vs D to me, assuming no further trades.
  21. Certainly 2 thru 4 is very strong, with many strong options for number 5 and depth to trade from.
  22. Pretty formidable rotation. Now need at least one defensive addition to 2b/3b. Preferably 2. At least one needs to be a trade to clear the log jamb they got going of fringe players
  23. I would be surprised if there isn't a trade coming after we get bregman. It could be 1 of 3 trades. A 2nd basemen for an OF plus add ons either way, an OF and Sp for a better SP, or a salary dump of Hicks or Yoshida. Now if they dont get bregman it wouldn't shock me if they were basically done...
  24. How many teams have an ace like crochet and 2,3 starters as good as bello and gray. Not saying they are the best, but they are better than at least 2/3 of the league. Again, they can absolutely add a #2 to be a WS contender, but I'd still argue the hole(s) in the lineup for a solid plus RH hitter with possible defensive spots available at 2nd or 3rd realistically is their biggest need. As of now it would be KC, Mayer, or Romney filling those 2 spots that just aren't good enough in the lineup to fill the need on O.
  25. Few teams have the quality and depth in the rotation the Sox have already. Not a huge hole no. If they want to win it all they probably need an upgrade, but will they pay that price in $$ and or prospects to get that guy(s) and then keep them all locked up?
