If he fails to hit, what is his floor? A better fielding Kike Hernandez? Kike got a $4mill AAV this year...

Worst Red Sox K-rates: Dalbec 66.7%, Hamilton 40%, Abreu 38.9%, Pablo 35.3%, Wong 33.3%, Valdez 31.4%, Reese 30.8%, Casas 27.9%, Story 26.5%... Ceddanne 25.7%.

If this is his floor, at least it's in the kitchen, and not the basement where those other guys are having a card game.

It seems that high K rates are part of the game, now.

In terms of OBP, Rafaela is 10th on the Sox behind Wong, Casas, Story, Hamilton and McGuire of the guys you mentioned. I'm not sure anyone is thrilled with Dalbec, Abreu, Reyes or Valdez right now. None of them have a wRC+ higher than 19!

Rafaela is, however, 5th in OPS.

Well it was a nice opening week. The boo birds needed something, and now they have been fed.

Who will be booed? Not another player befell with injury.

There's only the owners and front office who wouldn't/couldn't spend on actual talent to upgrade and deepen the rotation... but that's nothing new -- and certainly not something anyone needed more to boo about.

Cora- "there is concern with bone structure of Trevor Story.

See you next year Story.

Actual talent is pricey and, sadly, all too fragile. In the past JH has spent lavishly on starters only to see them go on the IL.

The rotation this year has been nothing less than miraculous. The Sox currently have the lowest ERA and WHIP in MLB. When was the last time that happened?

And the rotation of Bello, Pivetta, Crawford, Whitlock, and Houck is being paid $14M, compared to $16M for closer Jansen, $22 M for Story who is probably not returning this season, $18M for Yoshida who still isn't hitting and can't field.

Meh. I agree losing Pivetta is bad news, but he was just one of 5 starters and none of the 8 relievers.

They are down 40% of the original projected rotation that included Giolito. This is more than MEH.

@SoxProspects

The Red Sox next need a 5th starter on 4/13.* That happens to be Cooper Criswell's next scheduled start - in fact, the WooSox were skipping Brian Van Belle to keep him on that schedule.

Bello today on 6 days rest, then Crawford, Whitlock, Houck on regular rest followed by Criswell on regular rest seems logically how the team will play this.

A lot more than MEH, and this most likely won’t be the last starter to go down.

Just been confirmed. Story out for season.

Still only the first 1/3rd of April and 3 key members of the Sox, Giolito, Story, and Pivetta all potentially lost for the full season. Then there is Vaughn Grissom, a key addition to play 2B. He will be back on the field, but it will be pushing towards May before that happens.

This team need a relatively injury free 2024 but has already been decimated with key losses. The ship has sailed on the FA side to increase depth across the board. But we do have an $18 million dollar DH showing little power and poor OBP tendencies.

MLBTR reports...

Pivetta’s flexor strain is mild, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow tells reporters (including Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe). The right-hander could come off the IL as soon he is eligible, barring any setbacks.

Being a member of the SOX, Pivetta was overdue for an injury.

For the team's sake and Nick's, I certainly hope it is minor, but a diagnosis of pitching arm flexor strain is almost a certain indication of pending UCL problems.
