It just seems to me, there are dozens of pitchers like Ort available at any given time, and I’m talking waiver wire access.

Or just look in the Sox own minors. The Sox have high velocity fastballs all over the farm system, from Altavilla to Zefferjahn.

Norwith Gudino, Jacob Webb, Theo Denlinger, Ryan Fernandez. All throw just as hard as Ort. All are younger, too. Including Altavilla…

Presumably they saw more in Ort than just the radar gun reading.

What else does he have? The ability to help opposing hitters up their stats?

How is Kaleb Ort on the 40 man roster. This guy sucks and always has. He is getting lit up in ST. And the Sox let 2 good young pitchers go in the Rule 5 draft to keep this bum. What in the Wild World of Sports is going on, Chaim?

Toolsy, had a good arm. This is how bullpens go. You find guys who you think you can fix something and develop. Sometimes it works other times it does not.

But yes, Ort sucks, and I suspect at this point he’s the next guy to go.

I’ve been saying that for about 5 or 6 DFAs now, but with more certainty…

You're asking the wrong guy. Chaim still not taking your calls?

Ort’s agent must have the negatives of the Hang’em Chaim pictures in Yankees regalia hidden very well!!!!

Ok, but have you considered that the 6th or 7th time is a charm???

I will say that I truly believe the chance of Kaleb Ort lasting all season on the Red Sox 40 man roster strikes me as so close to 0 percent that we can call it 0 percent…

Ort was a nice arm. We’ve seen how volatile arms can be. We also look at bettter bullpens and think “why can’t we get guys like that”

With the exception of the very elite, most bullpen arms are made. A guy sucks for one team and someone else is able to turn him into a good pitcher.

Ort was a good gamble, perfectly justifiable. But, not all projects works out, and it still may for him elsewhere, but it’s not looking good. You have to cut your losses at times, I think it’s obvious he’s the next one to go.

Cant spell Abort without Ort.

The guy could go on a streak, even if fuelled by mostly luck. Zero % is harsh, and this from a guy who has had Ort on the top of the DFA list for maybe the last 10 DFAs!

I think a more reasonable probability is about .01%

Ten guys could always get hurt 🤷🏼*♂️

Yes, but you have thought the same about Brasier.

No. I wanted the same for Brasier. But I never predicted it…

Bello to pitch today. That only leaves Paxton as the only starter on the mend.

1 Kluber

2 Sale

3 Pivetta

4 Houck

5 Whitlock (opening day on IL?)

6 Kutter

7 Bello (opening day on IL?)

Maybe we use Winckowski for one start the first time through.

Where are we with our bullpen? I saw we lost a lefty yesterday.

It’s looking like Whitlock and Bello won’t be out for too long, they just want the rest of the teams to get a head start by a couple weeks because they plan on being awesome this year

Luxury Tax Payroll by positions

$01.225M C

$00.723M 1B

$02.000M 2B

$10.000M SS

$17.500M 3B

$18.000M LF

$07.000M CF

$06.300M RF

$10.850M DH

Yoshida is the highest paid this year (on the field). Cora says he'll bat cleanup.

Trevor Story earns $6M more than C, 1B, 2B, CF and RF combined.

Bello had 2 scoreless innings today. That is encouraging.

It sounds like he'll be starting in Worcester and then join the big club as soon as one of the older guys breaks down. It makes sense, since they have a lot invested in the veterans, and Bello has options. With a presumably easier schedule the first couple weeks, the Sox may just be saving their best rotation for later late-April/May, when a trio like Sale-Bello-Whitlock can make a statement (in a best-case scenario).

It's good to have options. You never know about starting pitchers.

This year's payroll would have been under the tax limit with Mookie's $29M, less Duvall's $7M and Verdugo's $6.3M.

Next year's raise for Devers could be covered by letting go of two free agents, Kike and Paxton.

I think I read Bloom state that Betts would not have players surrounding him for the team to succeed. I think he was not patient enough. Or maybe it was John Henry.

I don't think Bloom came here with the determination to trade Betts immediately. That came from someone at the tippy top. A guy who complains that baseball players are expensive and believes Steve Cohen is bad for the game.

But then, who do you have less respect for? A greedy a-hole who makes a bad business decision? Or a shill who works for him paid to take credit for those decisions?

What about 2020 and 2021?

What about Price v half Price?

Whitlock's contract

23: $1.00M Pre-Arb

24: $3.25M Arb 1

25: $5.25M Arb 2

26: $7.25M Arb 3

27: $8.25M FA 1 (club option)

28: $10.5M FA 2 (club option)

Could be a steal if he establishes himself in the starting rotation.
