If they were all swinging and missing, wouldn't that be like four Ks to start the first?

You're in an especially whimsical mood today, which is saying something.

It is kind of a traditional honor to be named as the opening day starter. I would think that should go to Chris Sale. I do give him credit for being a good soldier and thanking Cora for skipping him in favor of Kluber. The old Sale might have been a little ticked about it.

Sorry. Humor gets missed on the internet from time to time. :)

No worries! (I'll be back in your neck of the woods in a couple of weeks ... well, maybe just south of ice-berg calving).

We have to keep in mind that Sale is coming off a long stretch of inactivity and injury. He isn't the Chris Freakin' Sale of 2017 (certainly not yet, anyway).

Kluber put in a full season last year and is a better bet to be able to throw 5-6 innings than Sale right now.

So I guess Sale can’t pitch the second game either with this analogy, or will pitching him 2 days later make him more ready to go 5-6.

All I'm saying is he can't really be considered the "ace" at this point, so it's not a big deal he's not pitching the first game.

We overthink this crap too much anyway. Cora thought it would be a good idea to do it this way. That's really all that counts. We just argue about it to give ourselves something to do. :D

Agree with all.

WBC observations: Kike is back, Alfaro is a leader, Yoshida rakes on a big stage. Chang worked out with the grandson of '67 Yaz' personal trainer. Duran wears a sombrero. Devers doesn't like DHing.

And one of the potentially most important players to the 2023 season and to a team with half a billion invested in payroll got injured, while celebrating a win.

Bloom should be selling the Mets on Brasier and Ort right now.

Bloom thought about it, but decided the calculus that would make the most sense for the organization going forward is to wait another 197,280 minutes until just before the trade deadline expires for the optimal return.

That iteration would be the most awesomest.

"Well, we're only 5 games out of the Wild Card. Maybe we'll just stand pat and see where the season takes us!"

And we'd still get some posters that would say "it made sense at the time."

It was 3 games out, with lots of guys due to come back.

With a metric f***-ton of expiring contracts after October. Sometimes you don't hold out hope and just punt for the betterment of the team.

If they did a fire sale I would have understood. But I also understood why they didn't. I am Mr. Fair and Objective.

What a horrible way to live!

Kind of hard to do that when Bloom was looking for that 3rd option in the fork in the road.

To make the world a better place.

Good luck.

This place has been going downhill since the Mesozoic Era…

True, but at least it's a little better since 2004.

How is Kaleb Ort on the 40 man roster. This guy sucks and always has. He is getting lit up in ST. And the Sox let 2 good young pitchers go in the Rule 5 draft to keep this bum. What in the Wild World of Sports is going on, Chaim?

The metrics show potential for a new calculus in the aerospace engineering and astrodynamics of his delivery. Once Ort acclimates and finds his algorithms, it's just knowing when to pull the triggernometry.

Ab Ort.

It might happen, soon.

I have to think nobody would claim him, and he could still remain in the system, but if someone does claim him, so what?

Kaleb Ort averaged over 96mph, which does give reason to garner interest.

But then again - Jacob Wallace and Frank German also threw just as hard and both were traded away. Wallace in particular made no sense because he wasn’t even on the 40 man roster and was dealt for someone who needed to be (and had a less impressive resume).

Of course while velocity is exciting and the most difficult aspect of pitching to teach, it also guarantees nothing. There’s a reason Jamie Moyer had a better career than Steve Dalkowski. And frankly, players like Ort who have hittable velocity are not exactly rare commodities to be hoarded and guarded.

One of the hardest throwing MLB pitchers in the past decade was Tayron Guerrero. How many people ever heard of him?
