It's a modified TJS. There was always a risk that he'd be out the full season. If the team really sucks, why bring him back in August?

Just so the team has one good Story?

Opening day is getting closer and closer.

I’m getting pumped up.

The WBC really makes for an awkward ST season, but I'm on board too.

Kluber to start opening day!

I was surprised the other day when I heard Sale wouldn't be starting. I still don't quite get it, but ok.

I don’t get it either, but that’s Cora. Cora said he wanted Sale to enjoy opening day, and not having to pitch. A wild guess here, but I think Sale would enjoy opening day a lot more if he was the starting pitcher.

Well, I have to guess that Cora knows Sale better than either of us.

When I was one of the jabronis on the high school team, none of the benchwarmers loved the coach for not playing them.

Is Sale being sent to the pen?

Unsure of relevance to discussion about Sale.

Chris Sale on not getting the ball for Opening Day:

“I definitely understood why he (Cora) did that and I really appreciate it. It takes the pressure off me a little bit, whoever starts that day, it’s going to be fine.”

I wonder if kids today who sit on the bench brag that they are being load-managed.

He said he loves the manager for deciding not to play him and instead letting him watch.

I was just remembering a team and a guy where those feelings were opposite. There may be other players on teams at various levels that can relate.

Sale will be starting the second game instead of the first game. It's not quite the same as getting benched.

Wow, the reductionism LOL

In some cases that brag would be true, in some cases not.

The opening day pressure on Kluber must be immense!

Is he thankful that Cora placed him in such a pressure cooker?

(can’t put in green from my phone.)

Well, I'm sure Cora was factoring in that Sale has pitched so little the last few years and media and fans have been bitching nonstop about his contract etc. That's where the pressure comes from in Sale's case.

I think Sale is a big boy, and could handle the xtra pressure of pitching on opening day, and would also want the ball on opening day.

I trust Cora's judgment on it.

Agreed.

I do worry about Sale overthrowing out of sheer competitiveness, so maybe opening day might add to that possibility.

I don’t see starting game 2 as a big deal, though, and he may face easier starters for the first few starts.

Sale is going to be hyped up rather he pitches opening day, or the second day. I’m not worried about him arm. None of his problems last year was arm related.

What about when he broke his arm trashing the big screen TV?

Dude! Has the winter been so dreary up there you've lost your sense of humor?!

@jcmccaffrey

Kluber strikes out the side (all swinging) on 12 pitches to start the first against the Rays.

If they were all swinging and missing, wouldn't that be like four Ks to start the first?

Sorry. Humor gets missed on the internet from time to time. :)
