Can you name a time any Sox GM traded away that many top 20 prospects in such a short time?

Can you not see how someone might say what he did was extreme, beyond thinking it was worth it or not?

The fact is, it was rather extreme to trade so many prospects in such a short time.

Prospects traded (top soxprospects.com ranking)- not saying all these guys were great or even ended up being good, or if the tardes worked or not, but the sheer number traded was clearly extreme.

(Also, some of these prospects ranking were way lower when traded.)

1 Yoan Moncada (.822 OPS since 2019)

1 Blake Swihart

3 Manuel Margot (.694 career OPS, but plus defender and .895 in playoffs)

3 Anderson Espinoza

5 Michael Kopech (2.53 ERA in 46 IP, this year/3.12 career)

5 Jalen Beeks (4.23ERA w TBR)

6 Javier Guerra

7 Luis Ax Basabe

9 Marcus Dubon (.700 OPS in 450 PAs)

11 Shaun Anderson

12 Travis Shaw (not a prospect when traded)

12 Wendell Rijo

13 Logan Allen

18 Luis Aj Basabe

18 Jamie Callahan

20 Carlos Asuaje

20 Stephen Nogosek

20 Gerson Bautista

Ty Buttrey (had 3.86 ERA w LAA '19-'20)

Agree with dgalehouse and notin: this long list of prospects, with the notable exception of Moncada, doesn't amount to much. And we knew Moncada was good when he traded, but we also we really needed Sale.

So, as moonslav has already said, maybe Dombrowski wasn't so dumb after all.

I still like Bloom and am glad none of the top prospects were traded away last month.

My point was about how extreme the amount of prospects were traded away by DD in a very short time- not whether they worked or not. Extreme does not mean bad. There is no doubt, he made an extremely high amount of prospects for vets deals.

Almost all of them look good to great, in hindsight.

I actually liked most of the deals he made, at the time, especially the Sale one. There was only one or two I disliked, and both worked out well. (Pom & Kimbrell)

Logging off to tell my wife how I have a similar profile to Ewan McGregor.

I have no doubt you could also help f*** up a beloved franchise. Did you watch the video?

Updated Sox OPS

.929 Devers

.908 Schwarber (WSH-BOS)

.897 JD M

.895 Bogey

.799 Kike

.798 Renfroe

.792 Arroyo

.776 Verdugo

.775 Plawecki

.726 Dalbec

.634 Vaz

.599 Duran

.567 Marwin

.554 Santana

.497 Cordero

We could have a line-up with all batters over .775.

1.389 Dalbec in August...keep the hot bat in the lineup

Saying Houck could be our closer next year is no slight.

Could also be a starter. He is learning right now and if he works on command to keep his pitch count down, he could easily do 5 superior innings. That's as much as many starters do these days.

Yes, I’ve seen it several times. Did you read my posts above?

When I saw the numbers on the O's starter I noticed his walks, I just asked that he does not hurt any of our guys. Sure enough we could have come out of that game with 2 broken hands. That guy is dangerous, and his annoying long pause really ticked me off so I enjoyed watching my boys light him up.

I think we were all happy with Sale's initial outing.

Nice to see this from Bobby but I'm not going to get too excited at bombs hit off of minor league pitchers. As posted earlier we've seen this from him before, then he reverts to form against legit MLB pitchers.

JD and Bogey appear to be back!

Bobby Dalbec has now played in 119 MLB games.

.775 OPS

22 HR

68 RBI

Some would say that's pretty good for the first 3/4 of your first MLB season.

As far as bombs off bad pitchers - everybody fattens up their numbers that way.

Yeah, look what others did to our bullpen. Toronto guys salivate thinking about our pitching staff.

Good hitters foul off good pitches and destroy mistake pitches.

I did now. But I was like "whatevs". Anyways, I like Houck and he could be very good with better control and a workable changeup.

Negative fWAR for 2021 is NOT good.

He will always be a streaky guy. We know his current streak will end though.

He could be an overall positive contributor if he can better sustain the hot streaks though. And his power is real.

"Streaky" is way overused as a pejorative. Look at Mookie's game logs this year. He's streaky too. Many of the best hitters are.

Streaky is a better description for a high K guy like Dalbec. He'll have a 600 OPS for a month and then 1200 OPS for a week and a half and then back to 600 OPS.

I agree. My thoughts, right now, is that Houck and Whitlock are both fantastic, and we will add a very solid SPer this winter by free agency. That would force a choice between the two: one starts and one closes or becomes the top set up man or long man.

ThinkingWhitlock should start over Houck is not a slight on Houck. It’s a great compliment to Whitlock.

Could be, but it's pretty early to judge.

Houck as a relief arm is a waste. He has a very similar profile to Chris Sale at that level of experience, believe it or not.

Not.

At Houck’s age, Sale had 3 top 6 Cy Young finishes.

Houck’s career to date is 47 IP. He deserves to be in the rotation today, but any comp to Sale is way premature

Power is legit. So is the k rate.
