Wouldn't trading Bogey essentially announce to all current RS players not to consider signing a 'team-friendly' contract, or concede the so-called 'home-town discount"?

Or, you better sign one or be traded who-knows-where? Bogey's opt out made his extension not all that team friendly. Didn't he still have one arb year left? (I could be wrong.)

We did extend Porcello, Eovaldi, Bogey and Sale in recent years.

I'd think they have figured out that team friendly contracts or home town discounts do exactly the opposite of what the player wants. They sign contracts like those so they can stay in town and by signing for lower money they actually make themselves more tradeable.

They should only sign one of those if it includes a no-trade clause.

Yes, good point.

Remember when VTek turned down a good offer and ended up with crap?

Yep. Blame that on Scott Boras. He convinced Tek that he could get a lot of money for Tek out there and in the end Tek came almost begging the Sox to take him back.

I don't know of any stories about Tek turning down a good offer. Boras's asking price was just ridiculous.

Apparently, Boras turned it down without asking VTek, but since Boras was "acting on VTek's authority," VTek turned down the offer.
