The one thing I remember and liked about Baty that I saw in person in the minors is that he always tried to hit to the opposite field, which kept his head on the ball... and would play well in a home ballpark with a 37-foot high leftfield wall that is 310 feet from home plate.

He's sub .520 vs LHPs career. Yikes!

Since the CWS are probably 5-6 years away from being respectable, how about...

Masa + $10M out of $36M owed plus Soto, Delzine & Cason for 3 used bats?

Then, we sign Suarez and trade for Paredes. That's two RHBs!

Wow that Devers trade keeps paying HUGE divedends.

LOL

All that's left is Harrison & Jose Bello

Looking at the CWS BTV rundown, 3 of their top 11 players are from the Crochet trade:

3. Braden Montgomery 22

5. Chae Meidroth 21

11. Kyle Teel 18

Kinda wish we still had Meidroth and had sent them someone else- like Romero.

I didn’t think the Red Sox could find anyone to take Hicks off their hands, but they did, and it only cost them $8M. Chicago must of wanted the Sand Man real bad to take on Hicks, and his remaining salary.

Like a lot of folks said, virtually every player has a number.  If Hicks was a FA, he'd automatically get a $2-3M+ contract.

.678 last year.

In 83 PAs. He was at .523 in 2024.

I'm okay getting a LHB, but not one needing a platoon.

That we dumped the guy we only took because he was San Fran’s salary dump?

Maybe Chicago wanted Meidroth?

Thats probably not the trade we want to undo.  It’s actually ok that some guys are working out for Chicago.  Thats how trades are supposed to work…

Of course nobody wants to undo that trade.

Yes, maybe Meidroth was a high demand by the CWS. I'd do it again and again.

.238 BABIP in 2024, with a .291 in 2025.  His minor league splits look 'okay'.  I find split problems usually reveal  themselves in the minors.  It could still be an issue, but not a definite.

If the focus was dumping Devers, then Hicks net cost of $9M is small potatoes.

As we look at the lineup vs RHP it’s not great but not horrific offense. 4 outfielders hit well vs RHP, Mayer hits much better, Contreras and Story are close to even splits. It’s an offense that can produce.
vs LHP it’s dicey at best.

Roman hits lefties decently well, Ceddane has surprising reverse splits vs lefties , Jarren was awful last year, and Abreu is not great. That exacerbates the need for Inf vs LHP because Mayer is AWFUL So he is for sure platooning with Romy. We need someone who can rake vs LHP.

Here are the options:

Honestly some of you guys might have more data than me, why Paredes was so bad versus left-hand pitching? If that is more than an anomaly, I don’t think he’s the answer, obviously Donovan is much worse vs LHP. No go there.

Which leads me to this list:

1. K Marte

2. N. Hoerner

Big gap

3. Matt Shaw

another big gap

4. M. Andujar

5. N Arenado

6. K. Campbell

I like this move, a lot, but I was never too high on Sandlin.

My like or dislike can change depending on who we fill the two roster slots with and if the money saved is spent of pocketed.

it gets us slightly under the 2nd payroll level so I will let you guess if it is spent or pocketed.

We obviously couldn't afford Suarez after what he signed with the Reds for?

Seemed more than affordable, if we wanted him.

I’ve been the biggest defender of JD…. I’m officially ready to trade him for Nico Hoerner. Nico fits this freakin lineup like a glove.

I don’t see the Red Sox trading JD for a one, and done.

Ya, that swap sounds more reasonable than what I read this AM: Donovan for Tolle... and Harrison... AND Valera.

I wouldn't trade Tolle straight up for Donovan... but I might do Harrison OR Valera.

Yes, only 1 year for 3 is not fair.

We know we can't trust Brez to extend him.

At least he's got 2 years, but I agree: no Tolle or Early for Donovan.

This is a trade if you are the ChiSox and you really like Sandlin's stuff.

This is a trade if you are the BoSox and you are really concerned with going over a certain CBT threshold and don't believe in Sandlin as a bullpen guy.
