I agree with you, that the phillies pitching was 4x better than the dodgers pitching last year and yet the phillies (at least in my mind) never really had a chance to win that series.  I think LAD wins 8/10.

Losing Wheeler to injury crushed the Phils. And it's tough to assume he'll be as good as new when he comes back.

Kinda makes me wary of why a guy like Dombrowski would allow Suarez to sign elsewhere.

Buyer-buyer trades are more difficult and nearly impossible at deadline, but not winters. Not all winter trades are MLB players for prospects. ML'er for ML'ers are not plentiful, and some are more salary dumps than good player for good player, but they do happen.

I've never said the odds are this deal gets done. I do think HOU will trade Paredes, and they are a win now team, so that does set up the situation I am suggesting. They won't trade him for prospects.

Good point, you moved my opinion on this.  I think there comes a point when you accept that you cant get one of these buyer-buyer trades over the finish line and you make a more common prospects/youngsters outgoing trades to a small market team bringing in someone making money or is about to make a little money...

But I will fall back to buyer-buyer trades are almost never in-season, but merely infrequent (not extremely infrequent) in offseason.  Dont get me wrong I would celebrate if we got Paredes or Marte without giving up Duran or Abreu

I never thought he’d be a good 3b.  At least not in the past 3 years.

There was a time when he was pretty good there, but if you sign any player to a one year deal, apparently MLB is real stickler about it being the current year, and not, say, 2019…

This joke landed, fyi

This winter, we saw Semien for Nimmo, but they are kinda rare.

Theres often a financial component to buyer-buyer trades and future planning like SD knowing that they couldnt afford to keep Soto after his arb3 season and also knowing that even his arb3 salary didnt fit into their budget.  Im sure need/roster balance was a component, but a lot of times these buyer buyer trades are like a mid-market (not top 6 or 7 spender) trying to stay competitive despite knowing they are losing a star.

I think finances was a bigger factor in the soto trade than the semien/nimmo so i guess it depends on the specific buyer/buyer trade , as no 2 trades are ever exactly the same

Err, you could've told me that before I drafted Wheeler.  And I assume that Middleton might be hesitant about laying out an unlimited budget, and they have more faith in Painter.  But it is worrisome that DD had little interest in locking him in.

I wouldn't feel so strongly about trading for Paredes, if I wasn't listening to talk radio in the HOU area. The GM was on the show, yesterday and said the plan, "for now, is to play Paredes everyday." He actually made a point of saying, "for now."

When they added Correa, last summer, it was like when we added Bregman.

We also traded Prospect Sandlin for ChiSox pitching Prospect

Sandlin much like Hicks has a big arm. As a starter there are a lot of arms a head of him on the depth chart though. The Sox tried him as a reliever at AAA and he boomed. So to use him in a trade to move Hicks is a win in my book.
