  1. Honestly not sure, but most of the trades this FO makes are not things we or the media see coming. I also wouldn't be surprised if they're content going into the season as-is and willing to go til the trade deadline to upgrade where they need to. This would allow them to react to how players perform and their health, and it also could make some guys easier to move. For example - if Yoshida picks up where he left off in 2025, then he would be way easier to move in June with 1.5 years left on his deal than he is today. And maybe they want to give Campbell another shot at 2B, or see if Romy can cut it as an everyday player. They don't have to make a move for an infielder by Opening Day - they should still be fielding a competitive team with great pitching, and they have assets to make an upgrade if they feel they need to. My pipe dream is trading for Jared Triolo from Pittsburgh. Showed an ability to hit LHP last year and I think if he can stay healthy he's gonna break out this season. I kinda doubt the Pirates will trade a versatile cost-controlled young infielder like him though.
  2. Feels like the Red Sox don't want to add another everyday player or someone who will eat any DH PAs - they already have all of their DH PAs occupied with their 4 OF + Yoshida. Their offense should already be great against RHP - they really only need help against good lefties. They essentially just need a clone of Romy Gonzalez.
  3. It feels like a lot of fans/media are seriously underrating the team's offense. They finished with a top-10 offense by a lot of metrics last season (both before and after the Devers trade). A lot of the offense's improvements need to come from within - over half of their lineup is young developing players that need to take the next step for this team to be successful (not a problem that can be solved in Free Agency). Anthony, Abreu, Rafaela, Mayer, and Narvaez are all everyday pieces that have played fewer than 3 MLB seasons - and a couple of those guys have played under 1 season. This isn't even counting guys like Kristian Campbell and Triston Casas. 2025 was a season where they had serious injuries to several of their best hitters - Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, and Alex Bregman (as well as Yoshida and Casas). They still need to replace Bregman's production, but replacing Toro/Lowe with Contreras should offset that a bit. It just seems like a lot of folks treat the 2025 Red Sox like they had a garbage offense, which isn't true at all. They led the league in doubles by a huge margin. They could've returned the exact same lineup as last season and with just more health and development, they should be closer to a top-5 offense than just a top-10 offense.
  4. Don't really understand the anti-platoon crowd on a team with Romy Gonzalez who is one of the best platoon batters in all of baseball. The Red Sox most likely would've missed the playoffs in 2025 without all their success from platooning.
  5. Mayer and Romy seems like an ideal platoon at 2B. And Mayer doesn't stand to gain anything from being at AAA, he needs MLB at bats if he is going to continue to grow. If you don't believe he should get them then the Red Sox need to just trade him because otherwise he has no place in the org.
  6. Willson Contreras has a 129 wRC+ over the past three seasons. Pete Alonso's is 128.
  7. Over the past three seasons Pete Alonso has put up 8.5 fWAR. Willson Contreras has put up 8.3. Alonso has obviously been more durable but Contreras's biggest injury issues have been from when he was catching. What do you want the org to do with Marcelo Mayer? Dude needs to play somewhere, and if they re-sign Bregman then 2B is Mayer's only position.
