"Going all out" is a promising contender for this year's "full throttle".

It means once they hear the dollars involved, they’re going all out the door, never to return…

Going all out with a whisper campaign to get us to chill through Thanksgiving. Still no presents under the Christmas tree though.

I posted this AM, but Maddie's Soto plea article is on the News page and not on the Forum page.

Anyway, when John Henry heard Brez got Justin Wilson for $1.5M, he phoned in an instant calculation and said, "For what Soto wants, we can sign 400 Wilsons -- turn this bird around!"

Can't sign Soto for 600 now. Can only go to 598.5M.

That's a 1.5M  MLB deal for you tracking it at home.

WOW. Don't blow all the budget at once! 1.5m dollars. Henry and FSG are really SPLASHING the cash now! NOT!

Want to hear a bad joke? Red Sox rumored to be interested in Juan Soto. :P

article: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/boston-red-sox/news/mlb-insider-has-red-sox-fourth-most-likely-landing-spot-600-million-dollar-superstar/ec9d94a0fec7d501858dc184

My bet is that the Red Sox pretended to be interested. Heard the asking price was 600m, lowball offered him 350m, then they are going to tell the fans, "We tried but we got outbid." What a freaking JOKE of ownership and GM we have now!

i would rather sign Sasaki.  Much cheaper and younger with likely more upside.  won't cost a pick either.

Why not both if Sasaki is so cheap?

sorry but I don't understand this at all.  Correct me if I'm wrong yes Soto is a great player but isn't the OF position where the Sox have the most depth??  Soto also hits LH and it has been well documented that the Sox need RH power. If the Sox do manage to sign Soto it will take a boatload of $$ and what will be left to upgrade the one weakness EVERYONE on this board acknowledges which of course is PITCHING.

MLBTR reports "guaranteed $2.25MM on a deal that offers another $750K in incentives. He’d earn $150K apiece for reaching 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 appearances."

Last year Soto's OPS+ was 178. Highest on the team was Devers in the 130's, meaning Soto was as much of a better hitter than our best hitter as our best hitter was to a league average hitter.

Ortiz never had an OPS+ of 178.  And last year wasnt even Soto's best year at the plate, as he has a year where his ops+ was 217.  Only player to ever have a higher single season OPS was Ted Williams. Soto is entering his prime at 26.

Would you not sign Ortiz or Williams because you have "depth" at their position. Sox had plenty of depth at 1B/DH when they signed Ortiz (Giambi, Millar). Would you roll back the Ortiz signing?

No offense intended but not going after truly elite hitters because you have solid players is how you stay "mid"

That's what Stork thinks Soto is worth, and if the Sox do sign Soto he will be in here moaning about the price tag.

Those are just the facts people and the facts are not up for debate.

Sasaki is cheap, but he gets to choose wherever he wants to go and it'll most likely be the Dodgers. Sox will make a pitch, but it will be a shot in the dark. If he doesn't pick the Sox, there's no way we can get mad at Bres.

If only we could go year to year with Soto the way with did with Ortiz. The amount of value (on field, PR, otherwise) the Sox got out of his contract was immense.

Also Soto has a career OPS of .857 vs LHP.  Even if the Sox don’t get Soto and instead get a RH bat, chances are good the new RHH will have a career OPS less than .857 vs LHP…

Good addition because I was thinking the only argument that could give me pause is he bats lefty

My counter is Soto's paws bat greatly.

I still really want the Red Sox to trade for Crochet -- another key talent just about to enter his prime.

Once they land Crochet, they can focus on the one free agent starting pitcher they covet, and not have to scramble to outbid many other teams for two expensive arms...

... (because we all know they know they need two this winter to make a reasonable run).

I just posted this on another thread, but Soto pretty much has a higher OPS Vs LHP than almost the entire RHH market.

Soto mine as well be the RHB addition because he hits them just fine.  Sure, I'd love a legit power bat in-between him and Devers but imagine the havoc Duran/Devers/Soto/Casas will run on opposing teams.

They bring in their lefty specialist in the 6th inning to face Soto (who may crush him anyways) and then what do they do in the 8th and 9th? Must teams only have a few lefty's in the bullpen who can only go for a few guys to an inning.

Tyler O’Neill does have a career OPS of .923 vs LHP.  The problem with O’Neill is he doesn’t hit RHP particularly well, whereas Soto has a career OPS of 1.000 vs RHP…
