Pitching change...

@alexspeier

Yoshida said that with two strikes against a lefthanded pitcher, he was looking to hit something the other way to drive in the runner. Mission accomplished. He described himself as very excited to have played his first Red Sox game.

Sox are undefeated. Scored all their runs in the first to beat the Huskies, 5-3. Big hit was a bases-loaded double by Valdez, who drilled a liner to right-center with very quick hands. He also turned a DP on a feed by Kike. Alfaro had a nice oppo hit, Koss pulled a double, Rafaela stole a pizza, Hamilton played short most of the game.

Streaming the game. Pitch clock rocks!!!

(Of course, the RS fielding and pitching in the 9th ... that's a different story.)

Holy sh*t! Tie game, bases loaded, 2-strike count. Batter a bit slow ("not alert") in batting box. Automatic called 3rd strike. Game over.

Not a fan of that, or the clock in general. Imagine this happening in a playoff game.

I suppose I’m hoping they push it heavily in March so players get accustomed to that Rule long before October…

Timmy: " What happened, Dad ? " Dad: " I'm not sure son , but looks like the game is over. Let's go home. Do you want to come again tomorrow ? " Timmy: "Nah. "

Oh Timmy, You'll just never know the good ole days-= waiting two minutes between Josh Beckett pitches, Jeter holding his hand out at the umpire (like all LL kids do these days), then lecturing fans on their OBLIGATION to enjoy 5-6 hour RS/NYY games. No, Timmy, no more five-minute walks from the bull-pen to the mound. No more extra-innings in pre-season games. And what of those lights, that after each electrical glitch, took fifteen minutes to relight! You'll just never appreciate how the game was played during its glory days.

Of today's four pitchers in the Sunday game -- Wink, Murphy, Mata, Walter -- the latter looked the most impossible to hit. Kind of a live, dangerous version of Sale, Walter has the delivery of a death-to-lefties reliever.

I don't care what anyone here thinks. This is the best collection of young pitching talent (read 'young'='team control') we've had in awhile. Sure they may all suck but I'm optimistic.

Bello, Whitlock, Houck, Schreiber, Matta, Kutter, Murphy and Walter. Add Noah Song to the list when he is returned.

I've said this same thing, a few times. In terms of numbers of promising ML ready pitchers, as well as the level of quality of some, it's really pretty stunning.

Graduated in 2021-2022:

Bello

Whitlock

Houck

Crawford

Winckowski

Ort

Saw action in MLB:

Kelly

Should see action in MLB in 2023:

Mata

Walter

Murphy

R Fernandez

I know many of us, myself included, are so stuck in the mindset of ignoring anything promising said about our up and coming pitching prospects since Lester or Buch, might not be able to get excited about this, but I am.

I highlighted 6, but one could easily argue 4-5 have a lot of promise, and out of the 10 listed, maybe 5-7 could very well give us significant plus contributions.

I am interested in seeing how Duran does this year. It could be a make or break season for him. Obviously, he has fallen out of favor here on TalkSox, but I do think there is an exciting ballplayer hidden in there. Just needs to get out.

I think we often fall into this trap that all prospects are boom or bust and forget that sometimes guys take time to develop. While my hopes for Duran might be shadow of what they once were I think he could develop into a useful bat first corner outfielder, maybe at the very least a speedy platoon player with pop from the left side.

It's tough when your defense isn't great, because then you HAVE to hit.

You know the Sox clubhouse standards have gone in the toilet, when they allow a Booser on the team.

(He did pitch a scoreless inning, so maybe we could use more like him.)

Good points, but saying his defense is not great is a bit soft on him.

We very briefly had Boof Bonser, too.

Early spring "road game" lineups generally suck.

And the price point of the tickets made it less likely I was going to take the kids on a school night. We'll just wait for the local Low A team to start their season.

In the Globe it says that Kluber had the option of not going to this game but he wanted to, so there's one little bright spot.

Spring Training games are crazy expensive now…

This is Alfaro's 2nd start, both at DH and he'll be playing 1B in the WBC. Seems likely that he will probably not be a C on the Opening Day roster.

What are the prices? More than, say, a minor league game? (AA?)

(OK why did I ask that when I could look it up. What I saw was tix going for between $10 and $20. That's less than it costs me to go to a concert [often way way less!], play a round of golf, or even drive across town and back to see a friend.). And only slightly higher than a AA game (although I haven't been to one in two years.)

I priced out Cubs tickets in Arizona and they were in the $35-70 range…
