You're all pessimists. Why can't you see the Red Sox pitching staff as half-full?

The half that seems full is the youngsters.

Grade 1 strain. Won’t make opening day roster but expected back mid-April, when he can resume injuring himself again…

There are good reasons why a Scott Boras client would exercise a player option for only $4 million to stay with a team coming off a last-place finish.

Do you really think the last place finish mattered? Or are you just going to casually mention it at every opportunity after the Mariners made the playoffs for the first time since “Gladiator” was in theaters?

With 12 pitchers with potential to be decent starters, we may only need "half full."

Sale, Kluber, Paxton

Whitlock, Bello, Pivetta

Mata, Walter, Murphy

Houck, Crawford & Winckowski

If 5 do real well, we can get by on slightly less than half (5/12.)

The Red Sox do NOT have 12 pitchers with potential to be decent starters. Who’s ranking is that?

As long as Bello stays healthy, the hardly surprising loss of Paxton is covered.

But please do not slam on the keys when typing “Sale”. And keep it to small, safe fonts. Preferably Helvetica, often referred to as the safest font…

Covered with a lightweight tarp, or a heavy duty tarp?

My gut's rankings, and yes, all 12 have "Potential," even if some have slight potential.

I'd say only Wink, Murphy and maybe Crawford have just slight potential, but if you combine all 3, the chances one can do well is close to over 50%, so count those 3 as 1 and we now have 10 options for 5 slots. We just need 5 of 10.

Why not tell me who yhou think has zero potential to be a decent starter in 2023. ZERO.

I don't need stats or rankings, just go with your gut.

When James Paxton signed with Boston in December 2021 the Red Sox were coming off a season that fell only two games shy of the World Series.

Then again, the previous offseason Paxton signed with a Seattle club coming off a third-place finish with a 27-33 record.

Point gratefully accepted.

Really grasping at straws to say slight potential. Sounds like moving the goalposts. Slight potential I’ll agree with , which is less than just potential. Kind of a grey area.

Every jabroni has slight potential.

A pitcher isn’t a jabroni just because he doesn’t make $20mill…

Not the point at all. It’s as easy as 1-2-3, and not 1-2-4. Even the 1-2-4 people have slight potential.

Hmm 1,2 or 4? Which one was the number runs that you vehemently argued crossed the plate on Buckner’s error?

From one of the 1-2-4 kids.

Turn-of-the-century Sox fans may recall the dashed promise of a pitcher called Paxton Crawford.

Now we know he was just a construct, a preview of a future transition, from a passed-his-primetime pitcher (whose time is passed) to a hopeful with a last name that signifies a World Series winner (Game 2, 1986; beat Doc Gooden... more famously, Steve bailed Bob Stanley to win the key Game 5 of the LCS that kept Boston alive).

Wait. Didn’t you argue that it was only two years since Song pitched because of a cancelled season?!?! And that this was a factor in Dombrowski’s selection.

It’s really sad when you pick on other’s for s*** you can’t get right on your own…

Sorry, but that was someone else on Song. Just like someone else said it was stupid to say that Song hadn’t pitched in 4 years. It was just so easy as 1-2-3, at least for most. How’s the non shift working out. I’d say pretty good, and they can even guard the 1st, and 3rd base line, which was never part of a shift anyways.

You keep picking on people who said 4 years. At least they can count past two.

Now do I go find the post where you tried to establish medical credentials for Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio?

Also in case you failed to notice yesterday when Gallo was batting, the non-shift rule is already a failure…

No, The word potential implies any chance. I merely pointed that out. No goalpost moving. Slight potential is very clearly and firmly still potential. (Look it up.)

I don't think Wink and Murphy have more than slight potential. Crawford has a bit more than slight- my gut tells me.

I may like "suspects" Walter and Mata more than you, but to me, both have real potential.

The rest have already proven they can be decent. Many, it just comes down to health, but plenty of potential for Sale, Kluber, Whitlock, Bello, Pivetta and Paxton.

, Houck

To me, I might break it down to...

Plenty of potential- 9

Sale, Kluber, Whitlock, Bello, Pivetta, Houck, Paxton, Mata & Walter

So-so- 1

Crawford

Slight but not close to less than 5% at being a decent SP'er for the 2023 season:

Wink and Murphy

Plus, any of these guys could end up being decent pen arms, if they are not needed as a Sp'er.

Maybe, but I'd put our lowest 3 (Wink, Crawford and Murphy) of the 12 above the category of "Jabroni."

You think all are jabronis?

Why, because he know Paxton would pull a hamstring?

Disappointing stuff, harm.

When he gets beyond 2, he just copies and pastes.

Phillip Farge : " Hello , Mr. Notin . I'm new in town. I hear Chicago is the Windy City. " Notin: " What are you talking about Farge ? I was just down by the lake. Just a nice breeze. Why, Boston is actually windier than Chicago. Chicago is not even the the top ten in terms of average wind velocity. Why don't you learn some Meteorology before you start criticizing Chicago ? " Phillip Farge ( shaking his head ) : " Okay , Notin , maybe I'll see you around sometime. "
