Might as well just assume everyone's cheating.

Every club in the majors has an analytics department whose job is find any and every way to use technology to find an edge.

The hypocrisy about sign-stealing now is this: if it's still ok (and always has been) to use signs and try to decipher signs of opponents, then why are defenses now allowed to communicate with tech, but offenses aren't? And not just to try to intercept signs, but to strategize, like "take," "bunt," "slash," "hit-and-run," "steal/fake-steal/delayed-steal/get-in-a-pickle-double-steal/etc"???

Many years of experience have made me skeptical and cynical . I don't think there are too many things that are entirely fair and square.

Stealing signs is perfectly legal. It’s the use of electronic equipment that’s not. A non-electronic runner on second flashing signs to the 3b coach is not a problem…

Exactly, and as far as we know, that's all the Sox and 28 other teams did.

Cora was saying he would have Dalbec workout at SS. The assumption is it positions him to play there if needed.

Like I said before, Dalbec is already on the 40 man. They could add Goodrum once Story hits the 60 day, but that limits the ability to use that spot for anyone else. The Sox have other needs they probably worry about as much or more than backup SS, such as starting catcher, and replacing any pitchers who get injured in ST. And Cora has been reportedly using Dalbec in other positions for a while, including not only SS but also 2b and OF. In fact, there was some needless panic on this board when a story discussed that last season.

Whether we like their defensive abilities and limitations or not, both Dalbec and Duran still hold 40 man roster spots and have been bypassed for DFA multiple times. This does keep both in the picture for reserve roles either to start the season or as injuries occur. At least for now…

The 40 man roster point is a great one, and may be the deciding factor in the choice to replace Story on the 40.

EValdez is also on the 40, as is Hamilton, but I doubt Hamilton impresses enough in ST'ing that he is ML ready.

With Mondesi's health in doubt, I still think they'd prefer more than an emergency SS player like Dalbec on the 26. If they don't like EValdez or hamilton, they may add Goodrum. They may also look ahead and add Alfaro. It's not like Wong is a sure thing.

And why did they only steal signs with 2 outs?

It's obvious why he cherry-picked that stat, despite the 2 outs having no bearing on the point being discussed.

That's what I assume, and I'm sure some do it more or are better at it. Some may just be better at not getting caught.

I assume everyone steals signs from 2nd base.

In a case of injury lasting longer than couple of weeks, I always prefer the defensive first option the best, especially for middle infielders.

I still like Dalbec.

I am far from giving up on Dalbec. He could just be a streaky hitter who had a long slump, last year.

I don't mind having him as an emergency 3rd or 4th string SS/2Bman, but Mondesi will likely start the season on the bench or 10 day IL. I can't see starting the season with just Kike and Arroyo as middle IF'ers and Dalbec as the next guy in.

(Plus, Kike is likely still part of our OF depth, if Mondesi and Arroyo are both healthy.)

That puts him second since 2000, behind only Andrelton Simmons…

His wRC+ is trending towards Simmons levels too.

Welcome back!

I hope you were never near dead!

I've felt near dead mentally. That counts for something!

But seriously, all is well. Been going through a lot of changes recently. Just enjoying the busy season in the accounting world, and the new part time job I have on top of that. Preparing for a move to somewhere else in the Boston area in June. I've had a tough week, so I figured I would check in here to see what's up. I can't wait for those summer nights at Fenway, regardless of how good the team is this year.

It should be an interesting season.

I'm not sure I ever enjoyed the busy season! I always had to sell half of my season ticket for basketball.

I bounced from public accounting because of busy season. Once I had kids, my priorities changed. Maybe Thunder is just a sucker for the pizza parties? Edited by mvp 78

It's the part time job part that's boggling my mind.

Glad to see you back. What is your part time job?

Bella is already taking some time off due to forearm tightness. I am not expecting much from him.

It's not a good sign, but he could be fine.

Saturday February 25th is the first ST'ing game. We are less than a week away from "play ball!"

Tightness, or soreness is so vague. It could literally be anything. It’s like having a fever, your organs could be shutting down snd your dying or it could just be a cold. It’s literally a symptom for everything.

Still, anytime a pitcher has “forearm tightness” one can’t help but cringe a little. Let’s hope it’s nothing more.

Bello is throwing on flat ground with the other pitchers under the watchful eyes of a few trainers
