I priced out Cubs tickets in Arizona and they were in the $35-70 range…

Yeah, I just did a quick comparison between Sox home tickets and Cubs home tickets, and the Cubs prices look about 40% higher.

Who says John Henry is a money-grubber?

My experiences at minor league games lately is that the tickets are still bargains, but concessions cost big league prices (ya, ya -- that's why they call them concessions).

Smuggle in a bag of unshelled peanuts and a candy bar.

The beer might be more difficult.

What are the prices? More than, say, a minor league game? (AA?)

(OK why did I ask that when I could look it up. What I saw was tix going for between $10 and $20. That's less than it costs me to go to a concert [often way way less!], play a round of golf, or even drive across town and back to see a friend.). And only slightly higher than a AA game (although I haven't been to one in two years.)

$53 for the Marlins. The cheapest was $36 for bleachers.

The low A Mets are $10-12. We'll wait and get to see basically the same product with much better seats.

Maybe that's just market rate and not a mark up?

Probably, but back in the teens -- in the old minor league parks -- food and drink were as proportionately cheap as the seats. But to be Fenway frank, the dogs weren't as high quality as the nitrate sticks wrapped in plastic toxins soaking in roiling Charles River water...

I remember going to a Brockton Rox game and being very surprised at how cheap it was. I don't really remember Pawtucket being a super discount for food.

I once went to a Pawtucket game on July 4th, and to celebrate the holiday they made all concessions free…

Not sure where you're getting those prices. You can go to a Marlins spring training game for as little as $2 and there are lots of tix under $10. Same with the Dodgers. I suppose you could pay over $50 to go, but I'm not seeing any reason to do so from what is on their team websites.

That was directly on the team website? Maybe the pricing was increased based on the opponent?

Teeny, tiny, miniscule sample sizes, but I couldn't resist...

2-2 Duran 4.000 OPS

2-3 Caleb Hamilton 1.750

2-4 Alfaro 1.250 (Is there competition for the #2 catcher?)

2-4 Wong 1.000

5+ ABs

2.000 Bobby Dee (Trying to nab the #26 slot)

1.625 Fitzy (was hot, last ST'ing, too)

1.600 Verdugo (the new and improved version?)

1.571 Lugo (was hyped long ago and is resurging)

1.400 Casas (could be a major force in 2023)

1.300 EValdez (my sleeper pick)

1.089 GAllen (OF AAA depth- has 2 SBs)

1.000 Tapia (may squeeze his way onto the 40 in '23)

.667 Abreu

.650 Devers (4 ABs)

.600 Yoshida

.536 N Crook

.533 Sogard

.417 Rafaela

Pitching:

24 pitchers with a 0.00 ERA

Some with 2 IP: Crawford, Kluber, Winck

Valdez/Soto HR swing side by side.

@PeteAbe

Great conversation with Enmanuel Valdez this morning. He heard that NESN’s Kevin Youkilis compared his HR swing last night to Juan Soto’s. But he originally learned it from his father Humberto and grandfather Aciado. “They taught me,” he said. “I’ve had that swing a long time.”

@ChrisCotillo

Bleier, Mills, Ort and a bunch of minor leaguers in a bullpen game against Houston today.

Houck starts tomorrow followed by Brasier, Kelly, Mata, Dermody, Feltman and Broadway.

Paxton on track to start Friday.

Looks like I'll be taking an afternoon meeting on Friday at 1:05.

@tylermilliken_

Chris Sale will make his spring training debut on Monday against the Tigers.

He made it through another bullpen session without any issues today.

Ort is really showing us why he was protected over Ward, Politi and Song.

… and German, Barnes and Wallace…

His first inning was fine. He’s not a multi-inning pitcher. Neither was Paplebon.

I was surprised to see Bleier go two.

Id prefer if he didn't pitch any innings at the MLB level.

They are just getting pitchers to throw and work on their pitches. The games don't count. It doesn't matter.

Most people see him as the last guy on the 40 man roster, so you're not alone on that.

I think we all need to remember to ignore ST stats though.

I would. But I’d prefer they be against the Red Sox…

But the fact that Ort is on the 40 man puts him closer to the top of the depth chart than many fans like.

What I’m hoping is he is the first man off the 40 man roster as replacements arrive…

I think we've all anticipated that he'd be the next guy DFA'd, but that hasn't been the case. We've seen Seabold, German, Barnes and others DFA'd before him.

And with the exception of Seabold, I was disappointed every time.

Even if they liked Ort, the chances of a 31yo with less than 40 career IP and an ERA over 6 clearing waivers seemed higher than for any of those pitchers…
