OK. I guess I get it. The internet is different because we are incognito and can be as provocative and nasty as we want to be.

I come from the perspective of John Milton's Areopagitica, written in 1644 to defend freedom of speech, open discussions, and exploration of all kinds of ideas. Talksox actually does manage to do just that most of the time--within the confines of Red Sox baseball, of course.

But, as moonslav and others are suggesting, some contributors drop by just to toss out a few molotov cocktails. They come from the same school as those who spin endless conspiracy theories and other nonsense on the internet.

Hey $10mill for Kike isn’t a bad deal in a watered down league.

I keep hearing that number as though it proves something. Is it an overpay in terms of his less than stellar production? Absolutely. But it pales in comparison to what the Yankees paid Ellsbury and what he delivered and the Sox paid Sandoval and what he delivered. Kike stayed healthy the whole season and was ready to play baseball, errors and lousy OPS no extra charge.

Furthermore, if Kike is such a freaking disaster, why are the AL West leading Dodgers taking over the remainder of his salary for the last two months?

I'm not for banning anyone, but if someone is trolling or being a jerk, my free speech allows me to call it out.

Same with others if and when I am being a jerk.

Actually, the Dodgers aren’t paying the last two months salary. At the time of the trade, Kike had roughly $3.6M remaining on his contract. The Sox sent $2.5M to the Dodgers as part of the deal; LA is picking up the balance of $1.1M.

You are right though, he was always ready to play and that counts for something.

We don't make the playoffs in 2021 without Kike in CF.

We don't get to within 2 games of the WS without Kike's fantastic playoff heroics.

Apparently, I made the mistake of thinking maybe Kike would do the same after a slow start in 2022, and when he didn't, the gloating began.

The $10M was about the going rate for someone with Kike's history. He may have done better had he been placed in CF or 2B, but he didn't. He sucked at SS and at the plate.

Some pouting poster, upset at the fact that he was wrong about this team goes into hiding, and comes out for a drive-by hit on Kike after he was traded. As great as the Sox have been playing, the most important thing on his mind was to get one last jab in on an ex Sox player and about being right about a Sox player sucking.

All I can say is that it did not surprise me. He's not the kind of "fan" I can relate to.

To soften the post on bashing an ex-Sox player, he acts like Casas is "his boy." I thought maybe he was joking. He's called all our prospects "suspects" and was saying Casas should not play everyday just 3 weeks ago and worse about him, earlier, this year.

Free speech is fine- just be ready to be called out when spewing nonsense and hating that he claims can't be called hating. If his feelings towards Kike was not hate, I don't know what hate is.

He's still a decent defensive CF'er and may be okay at 2B.

He's always hit lefties, pretty well, although he's been up and down on that- down, lately.

LA was willing to pay $1M and give up 2 somewhat decent RP'ers. I guess their talent guys must suck, right?

I'm glad he will have a chance to play where he may turn things around. It sucks how he ended his career here. I agree, he had to go. I'm hopeful the 2 pitchers help us, someday.

Maybe the $1M saved will be used to get us a pitcher at the deadline.

Nasty comes in all shapes and sizes even here folks. Subtle, not so subtle. Personally I prefer the up front kind of stuff rather than the cutesy middle school read between the lines crap that we do see here everyday. Now, with that said, I'll say once again that I am a fan of whoever the current GM happens to be. I'm very happy with the array of talent in general that Bloom has gathered up for us. Looks a little like an overload of upper average kind of stuff and some could go. If any trades are made, I hope that few if any of our youngsters go. It would seem a bit hypocritical to me if anyone applauds to loudly if this happens regardless of who it brings in.

This is a fair post. Maybe even middle schoolers are too mature to actually blame the season on Kike, who only tried his best to do what he was asked by management. And even if Cora insisted he had confidence in Kike, it's still the responsibility of the front office to constantly look for ways to upgrade any and all roster weaknesses. Especially after AC ruled himself out as a SS option, having put on the recent front porch addition to his middle-aged physique.

I tend not to dwell on actual dollar numbers and call ballplayers overpaid, when who among us would ever turn down salaries at market value for whatever services we would render (now I'll hang up and listen to snappy retorts...)

Kike with your shoes so bright

Won’t you lead ALL of ML baseball in errors tonight

Then all of the game threads loved him (ha, ha)

As they shouted out with glee (ha, ha)

Kike your an idiot (Max said)

You’ll go down in history

No One got trashed on the game threads more than Kike, and there b was many on here that took the trash out on him.

Snappy is a nice way of putting it! I like that. I think that it was time for Kike to go but I appreciate everything that he did for us which was a lot.

"My boy Casas," lmao.

You refused to call him a prospect- only a "suspect," and just 3 weeks ago, you posted:

Casas, and Duvall doesn’t deserve to be in the lineup all the time, and neither does Kike.

6/26: "My eyes are good enough to tell me that Casas doesn’t have much of a clue on playing 1B, and while his hitting has improved he is not anyone I would want to give a long term Braves like contract to... All I’m saying is that there had better be a backup plan. What’s the backup plan at 1B outside of Turner for now?"

Next, you'll be saying you loved the Yoshida signing and felt it was a good money deal from day one.

Go back in hiding. It suits you better.

Like Cora said recently. It doesn’t matter how many prospects/suspects you have, or what the farm rankings is, but what matters most is what the big league team does, or doesn’t do in October. Hmm. Seems like I’ve been saying that for some time now.

And I like Cora's attitude.

OTOH I'm sure glad right now the farm produced Bello, Casas, Crawford and Duran.

You can like both things, the big team and the farm, there's no law that says you have to choose.

Now calling Casas “his boy” is comical.

I’m not saying, and I don’t believe Cora is saying you have to choose either. We’re both just saying that if you you are still playing in October, or not is the most important thing.

It is nice to see homegrown guys start to prosper. Team is suddenly enjoyable to watch now.

If they do trade prospects, I need to have faith that development knows which guys they are selling high on.

And if they really want to get to the sustainability model, they have to care about the farm. Of course the MLB manager is going to be more concerned about the AL East standings than Mayer's development. However, the franchise as whole may be better off if Mayer and the prospects have a great second half than the MLB team.

I think it's a large reason why that 2018 team was so fun to watch.

The second half of next year could have pretty much half the roster consisting of homegrown guys. I'm excited for that.

Are Wong and Winckowski considered home grown to you? Not being snarky, just asking since they did spend a few years in the system.

Close call.

Certainly Whitlock should not, although he did pitch his first MLB IP with us.

. So will John Henry be happy to have so many players on entry level contracts

It's a way to offset Raffy's 300M contract and seems like a good way to do business if he's going to use the rest of the money elsewhere.

I do, since a large part of their development was spent in Boston's farm system.
