I have no problem with ARod on ESPN. He's infinitely better than Rick Sutcliffe...

moon is the only poster that likes Rick Sutcliffe.

Huh?

I never listen to announcers. I turn down the sound and put the Dead on.

As long as it’s Workingman’s Dead. New Speedway Boogie is just perfect for baseball. Or any activity…

NOBODY likes Rick Sutcliffe. Not even Mrs. Sutcliffe. She just says she does because it gets him out of the house every Sunday…

I was actually just listening to the remastered "Uncle John's Band" earlier, today.

Me too. Unless the Sox are playing the Braves, Orioles, or Nats, in which case I listen to the WEEI guys.

My understanding is that he chews a mixture of gum and sunflower seeds. Having used tobacco like that, I can say there is no way he could have that wad in his cheek without spitting grotesquely and continually.

Really? I hope you are right because, if you are, that's a huge relief.

I don't even do that.

MLB and the players will be making a huge mistake if there is a work stoppage this year. They will lose some fans who will not come back. They all make millions and live lives of luxury. Work it out.

If there is a lockout, as is projected, it's on the owners and NOT the players. This isn't a strike. This is a lockout from the owners.

Bogaerts news: ESPN's Joon Lee reports, "According to sources close to Bogaerts, the shortstop currently plans on opting out... also open to moving to second or third base down the road." Lee also said X still wants to stay in Beantown (just at market rate).

... that notion, plus Downs re-establishing his potential and Yorke being named Sox Minor League Player of the Year, may preclude a Semien signing (to play second base). Justin Leger from NBCSports just tabbed Semien as Boston's "top free agent fit", then listed these pitchers in order: Ray, Stroman, Graveman, Hand, Iglesias, Gausman.

Shaughnessey also said the Sox won't be willing to pay ERod and Schwarber enough to keep them. If true, that just about eliminates signing any top pitchers or position players this winter -- if there even is a free agent market pending a strike/lockout.

Was Shaughnessy - who is a coulmnist and not a beat guy who goes out and actually talks to people - citing any actual sources or is this just pure conjecture?

This is said every time.

One could also say owners will be making a big mistake, if...

I think we offer ERod the QO, and if he declines, we won't outbid others for him.

I'd love to get Semien or Baez, but I still think pitching is our top priority. The problem, to me, is that I don't see any studs I'd sign large and long, so I hope we go for moderate- cost quality to bridge us to the next FA class or to any young pitchers we have that step up their game.

I really like Bogey, despite my issues with his defense, but I would not pay him as much or more than some other SSs on the market that play better D and hit similar to him (Semien?)

I also like Schwarber a lot, but other areas have a higher need. If we can trade JD, I'd sign Kyle in a heartbeat.

So they'll sign Semien AND Ray, but don't have enough to pay ERod or Schwarber? Sounds legit.

It's actually the owners who are locking out the players so you can't fault the players at all.

Yet for some odd reason, the Public Perception is more often to side with the owners...

I just don’t see the Red Sox opening up their wallets for anybody. They didn’t for Mookie, but they knew he didn’t want to sign anyways, but I don’t see any big money offers being made to Bogey, or Raffy either, so the question is do you play another year with both, and let Bogey walk, or do you trade them both, and get what you can in return. I just don’t see another David Price contract, or bigger in the near future for the Sox.

Don't forget that the Sox have Marcello Mayer coming. Best player if the 2021 draft.

Exactly.

The owners will use COVID and lost revenue as an excuse to demand give-backs.

If ERod declines, he should be given as much consideration as guys like Ray and Stroman.
