Then we'll have nothing to blab about... except nostalgia. Meanwhile, we've got about a month before the current pact runs out and they officially declare war.

Regarding Baez: I'm just not keen on adding yet another swing-from-the-heels K-man to a lineup we'd all like to see make more contact. Baez led the MLB in strikeouts this year with 184. He whiffed every 2.7 at bats. For the '21 Sox regulars, Dalbec was the worst, fanning every 2.67 ABs. Next was Schwarbs 3.4, Arroyo 3.7, JD 3.8, Hunter 4.0, Devers 4.1, Kike 4.61, X 4.68, Vaz 5.4, and Boston's top contact man: Verdugo 5.6.

Houston had five guys (or over half their batting order) as good or better than Beantown's best: Brantley 8.8, Gurriel 7.7, Altuve 6.6, Bregman 6.5, Tucker 5.6; Brantley, Gurriel and Bregman were also the toughest to punch out at their positions in the bigs.

Other shortstops' K/AB: Tatis 3.12, Adames 3.18, Story 3.7, BCrawford 4.6, Bichette 4.67, (Bogie 4.68), Lindor 4.70, Correa 4.78, Seager 5.3, Turner 5.4, Simmons 6.6, Kiner=Falefa 7.0, Wander Franco 7.59 (probably not available at this time). The best by far was Kevin Newman from Pittsburgh: 12.6. Newman!

I'll take double those K's if the guy can field, hit 30 Hrs and drive in 100.

Plus, it's better than GIDPs.

Javier Baez is nearly 29, has 2 All Star games, a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger and been worth 17.5 fWAR in 6 seasons. Didi Grigorius has no hardware, no All Star games and been worth only 1.4 fWAR more in two more seasons and got $14mill. I think Baez is going to top $15mill easily. $25-30 is a stretch, but not an unrealistic one...

I did say I doubt he gets $25M but "might get close," so who is saying $25-30M, besides Teddy?

Better call Bloom quick!! Tell him you vote “No” on prop 15…

I'm on hold because he's too busy dealing with irrational phone calls from you.

When is the last time we saw 5 top flight free agents all at the same position in the same year?

Story

Correa

Semien

Baez

Seager

(Bogey, next year, and maybe on the trade market, this year.)

What these 5 get will have a lot to do with what Bogey will want.

No, my phone calls with him are very rational. The same cannot be said about my texts and emails...

Really didn't need to know about the notin upskirt photos you are sending to Bloom. Woof.

I said that is what he is going to want to sign. He may not get that much but the Sox aren't signing him.

Yes, and he will be alone as the best SS next market year.

Okay, but you also said the Sox won't be "shelling that out," so I assumed you thought they'd get it.

I'd give ERod his QO, and no, I would not pay Stroman, Glausman or R Ray large and long. If we can get one on a shorter deal, okay.

I'm thinking get an older pitcher, since they won't demand and get a long term deal. Scherzer's dead arm scares me, but there are others.

We need 3-4 pitchers and may only have $30-40M to spend after signing Iggy. If we spend $18.5M on ERod, then the rest will be spent on $4-8M pitchers.

I expect Scherzer would be looking for at least $30 mill in AAV regardless of the years.

Then stop asking me to BCC you on them!

if ERod bolts, I’d look into Scherzer, dead arm, age and all.

Like I said in a earlier post that I did not think the Sox would be spending big money for anybody. They didn’t for Mookie, and I don’t think they will for Bogey, or Raffy, and if that’s the case I don’t see it for somebody from another team either.

The Betts choice does not mean we never spend big again. The only reason I see someone like Scherzer is the shorter term- lower risk aspect.

I, too, do not think we go large and long on anyone, this year. It’s not the year to look for a great ace.

Betts wasn’t really a choice, because I don’t think he was going to re sign, and the Sox knew that, and listening to Sam Kennedy the other day sounded like they were going to take the same route as last year with no big names, and low rent FA, and rule 5. Of course if E Rod leaves, and JD opts out that gives them more money to spend.

They should have signed Scherzer instead of Price.

They should have signed Lester instead of price at half the price, and less years, but I would have taken Scherzer over both.

It not like we haven’t given any big contracts. The Sale extension was big and long.

The Bogey deal eas team friendly but not cheap.

I think we’d go large and long this winter, if there was somebody we felt was the exact right fit.

I don’t see “that guy,” this winter. Maybe we trade for a big name.

The only way you trade for a big name is if you give up a big name like Bogey, or Raffy, which could happen if they don’t intend on paying them. I didn’t like the Sale deal, because of the possible arm problem at the time, which turned out to be TJ.

Actually, big names are usually traded for multiple top prospects.

That is not Bloom’s way, so it would have to be the Sox trading a big name like Raffy for top prospects.

That’s assuming the Sox would want to take on a big contract that would go with that big name.

I never said it was Bloom’s way, but Bloom is in a much different environment, now.,

I’m not sure we can know what he might or might not do.

Sale was not a big contract when we traded for him, neither were Pedro and several others.

Bloom’s first big job was trading Mookie.
