    Sogard, So Good

Raffy had a homecoming, and Trevor Story might be right behind him. Yay?

    Brock Beauchamp

    Red Sox Video

Alex and Maddie sit down and discuss Rafael Devers’ homecoming. As always, they answer your forum questions and debate whether Jahmai Jones or Eli White is a better bench piece. They rank Johnny Damon, Manny Ramirez, and Devers in order of who should be booed the loudest in their return to Fenway. They congratulate Nick Sogard on his first home run. Finally, they discuss Trevor Story’s imminent return to the team. (They didn’t notice he was gone in the first place.)

So I absolutely agree that Sogard has done an amazing job for the team as well as Siegler and Gasper and Montaserio, that I’m reading tonight is that maybe even during the remainder of the Marlin series that Trevor story will be brought up.

This team has chemistry. They work very well together. Why can’t management, and I’m leading with my jaw when I say that, “management” that is, use some common sense and realize that the best operative here at all is to wait until when and if Trevor Story show us enough in Worcester to merit coming back the Sox? Why push another hit up against a team that plays together and does very well together, not much different than Adley who has done absolutely nothing since joining us, after compromising some very important prospects, why push another hit up against us by bringing Story upjust for the sake of bringing him up from his rehab assignment. He’s not hitting enough, and clearly almost by his own admission he can’t cover the range he used to. Every single game we play from here out is critical to what happens in the playoffs. Can anyone out here help me to understand why they would send someone down who’s playing great to bring up this guy who frankly has never really done a great deal for us in the time he spent with us.

It’s time to just leave well enough alone, and if the likes of Trevor Story, Roman Anthony and even Crochet aren’t ready to contribute, they need to prove their worth to team that has come back from an amazing early season deficit

I disagree with the Adley take because his swing is coming into form, but agree with the most of the rest. I want Anthony up over Duran for the bat and Crochet in a two inning burst to open for Bello is enticing to say the least, but I’m over IKF and Story. There’s no one on the 26 man I’d option for either of them.

Adley has a long way to go, he looks completely lost out there, regardless of what he’s doing. When you say you want Anthony up over Duran what does that mean Duran goes down? Love the idea of Crochet and Bello tech team. Completely agree about Izzy and let’s just end the”story” there lol.

On the booing of Manny Ramirez:

Before Manny left, it was perceived in Boston that there was a considerable drop off in his effort. There was a lot of grumbling about him no longer wanting to be in Boston, much more than Raffy TBH. This all combined with rumors about him being forced to leave Boston because his wife wanted to get him away from another woman made the fanbase more and more frustrated with Manny being Manny. It all came to a head when the story came out that Manny shoved the travelling secretary to the ground over tickets. He gets traded to Mannywood a month later and a rejuvenated Manny starts walloping .400 for the Dodgers. The following season, he's popped for PED's and is suspended.

While he had a great run as a Red Sox, it's easy to see how the crowd wanted to boo Manny at that point. His career wasn't on a good trajectory. He hadn't made amends with the travelling secretary yet. He was a guy who forced his way out of Boston, seemingly didn't try hard while he was here, busted his ass for his next team and got caught doing PED's.

Damon had the opportunity to comeback via trade later in his career and he nixed it, if I remember correctly.

I'd send Duran down over Sogard or Mona at this point, yes. Maybe even over Seigler. But in actuality, I'm moving Duran to the bench for Anthony.

I think it’s better to leave them on the bench, but it really does create a serious log jam because throw into the three name mix you listed Mickey Gasper, and I almost wonder if it’s better just to wait to bring Anthony up on September 1 when we get the extra two roster slots. What do you think?

I think Anthony comes up before then, but it's not a bad plan honestly. One of the expanded spots will go to a reliever, that's a given. If Whitlock can come off the IL as the team is heading to New York on Friday then likely Olds gets optioned and then potentially called right back up in just a few days. You could make a case for Weissert to be that option instead and I wouldn't argue with it at all.

IKF will likely be the position player that takes the second expanded roster spot. You'll get a lot of clamor for Arias instead but with the looming lockout, he's not going to be added to the 40 man so he can keep getting minor league reps next season while the major leagues are locked out.

Really appreciate the insight on this. I was a diehard Manny fan growing up so my views and opinions on the whole situation of him leaving are fairly biased if we're being honest.

Izzy said he's fine with waiting until September 1st to be taken off the IL. I've whined plenty about him this year, but that comment earned him a lot of respect in my book.

I vaguely remember hearing about the traveling secretary incident, though I was just eight years old at the time. Manny didn't directly apologize until 2014. Six years later! After learning this, I'd flip Damon/Manny
