I don't agree with the decision to start Porcello over Eavoldi in game 3. This means that Porcello is set up to pitch game 7. I would rather have Eavoldi as the starting pitcher in game 7.

Since I don't see a major benefit with Porcello as the game 7 starter, I would start E-Rod in game 4, move Eavoldi to game 5 (extra rest), move Sale to game 6 (extra rest) and Price to game 7 (extra rest).

I have no problem with it. Never did. I think the tide is turning. Farm is the way to go nowadays. For all teams, Smart Trades and Farms, and just some smart spending.

Betts, JBJ, Beni, Barnes,Vazquez and Swihart were all drafted by the Sox. International draft yielded Xander and Devers. JD, Price, Moreland and Brasier were all free agent signings. The rest came by way of trades, Sale, Pom, Pearce, Kinsler, Eovaldi, Hembree, Holt, Kimbrel, Porcello, Kelly, Nunez, E Rod and Sandy.

You can argue that trades were made possible by having a strong farm system. We just seem to struggle developing starting pitchers.

Eovaldi pitched an inning in each of the first two games.

Didn’t Hernandez have a 3 home run game against the Cubs last year in the postseason?

Was he batting .097 then too?

Clearly Roberts knows a 26 AB sample size isn’t everything. He’s playing what got him here...

But if the Sox win game 3, I would start EROD in game 4...that I would like to see only just to see DR bench Muncie/Bellinger to the dismay of Dodger fans and the LA press...

How about this:

Eovaldi for one turn through the lineup

ERod for one turn through the lineup (to get rid of Muncy/Bellinger and empty the bench)

Brasier Barnes et al for the rest of the game

He had an .806 OPS this year in 402 ABs.

He's got 32 ABs this post season.

Yes, i previously mention all that. Still, you start him over Muncy? 35 HR .973 OPS?

I’d be the first to admit that clearly it’s team mentality. Cora has his team loose, playing to win and Roberts team looks tight and simply playing to not lose. That above all is why the Sox are up 2-0. But after seeing game one, do you really go to Madson in game 2 over Baez? With runners on? Still facing the heart of the order? I can see sticking with your closer. Closer is preordained to be your guy in the 9th. Having a preordained guy for the 5th, decided before the game? I question that move. Having an initial plan is great. To a point. Going with the guys that got you there is a great idea. To a point. Not recognizing the hot hand and not going with your instincts or simply ignoring what happened just 24 hours ago is poor play off managing imho.

1) It wasn't an either-or.

2) You do what you did during the season that worked.

3) Part of the reason Muncy and Hernandez had great OPS numbers is because they were platooned and have big split disparities.

Yes. Loose but also highly focused and determined.

It doesn't matter who's set up to pitch game 7, in the very unlikely event we get there. That's an all hands on deck game. Eovaldi and Sale will both be ready to go.

Well, a day has passed and we witnessed a marathon game in which both pitching staffs were dominant, both teams made critical base running and fielding errors and both teams must be totally exhausted.

We witnessed an example of the old axiom, good pitching beats good hitting, as none of our regulars were hitters tonight. It took Nunez, Bradley and Holt to do the bulk of the hitting if bulk is the word to use. Every game needs a goat, and Kinsler certainly earned that title. He ran the bases like a drunken sailor and then committed the error that led to the loss.

It was a tough game on our pitching staff as we tired a lot of guys and essentially lost Eovaldi for any future work in LA. I thought Cora pushed all the buttons he had so we just couldn't pull it off. Hard to say what impact this will have on the series as a whole. So what comes next?

Hill against E-Rod or Sale? Who do we lineup?

Lots of tired players to consider. It will be interesting.

The game ended at 1a local time. The game starts at 5:30p local time. They’ll be back in their homes/hotel by 3a local time. They’ll sleep til noon and then be fine. These are all mostly 30ish or younger guys. They can handle it

Old adage that good pitching beats good hitting is correct sort of. this wasn't just good pitching it was great and that is what it takes to beat this Sox team - great pitching.

I'm sure this has been mentioned but I certainly would have walked Puig to get to Grandal. Losing Game 3 when you are up 2-0 usually isn't so bad, but damned one out away from basically sealing up the World Series is just brutal. Especially given the cost in terms of player use. But both teams have the same schedule so playing on short rest is not an advantage or disadvantage to either team. We'll be fine, Mookie will soon be Mookie and we will still win this thing.

Yup the telling of how brutal a loss that was will depend on tonight's game. If they make it 2-2 then it will be all the more harsh. If we take it 3-1 its over.

I think he might go Sale tonight.

I personally would’ve as well, but putting the winning run on right there... Either choice was less than inspiring. This Red Sox team have made a habit of shaking off losses and getting back to work all year. I expect that to continue. I still have them in 6, I never thought they’d sweep.

Going with Sale tonight would be a mistake. Probably Erod starts. As I said last night, Cora basically insured this WS goes back to Boston the way he played game 3. He needs to use Sale in Game 5.

We will see. E-Rod is certainly an option but i wouldn't be surprised to see Sale there. It would mean he could take the ball again if there was to be a game 7.

With what arm for game 7. He is not getting the ball on Saturday on short rest and then again on next Wednesday on short rest. Cora needs to climb back out of last nights train wreck...not let last nights train wreck cost the far better team the WS.

I don't like starting Sale tonight.

As is stands, even if we were to lose Game 4, we'd have Sale for Game 5, Price for Game 6, Porcello or Eovaldi for Game 7.

This is the WS. Short rest doesn't matter a jot right now.

E-Rod is certainly a good option, but let's not pretend Sale can't pitch on 4 days rest in the WS.

I'll be happy with either choice.

Actually its not Grandal that would have been the hitter if Puig got the intentional pass. Barnes was in the game at that point, a far less dangerous hitter than Grandal.
