Sure but... he looked absolutely defeated to me. And at the time was still winning. Take it how you want.

There was plenty of time - and he did not look crestfallen in his at-bats.

I mean - it is a micro version of how I felt after the Muncy homerun at 3:30 in the morning. Wow, this sucked - but nothing that a game 4 win couldn't fix.

That’s fine. It’s just not how I took it. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I want to change my final score for tonight‘s game. 62-3 Red Sox

It has seemed all year that if the Sox were behind midway through the game that they'd come back late and win. Does anyone know how to find runs scored by the Sox, by inning?

And please don't answer that question with a 'yes' or 'no'. :) Obviously I'm trying to confirm or debunk what I think I've observed and I need help.

Thanks

Being down 3-0 would have been crushing - except I lived through 2004

Being down 3-1 seems crushing - except I lived through 2007 (or the 2016 World Series)

I expect the Sox to finish the job. But - this has been a very tightly contested series, and a few breaks going the other direction is entirely possible.

Remember, one reason the 9th inning numbers look low is because we don't bat in the ninth when winning at home.

They really killed it in the 5th inning this year.

They did, and they did well in the 7th too, which must be what I remembered. I had often thought that the Sox "made their hay" when a team's starters were in the 3rd time through the order and then when the relievers came in. The top 4 innings were the 5th, 7th, 1st, & 6th.

I'd always heard that more runs were scored in the 1st than any other inning because 1) the pitchers weren't settled in, and 2) that's the only inning in which a team can say in advance who's coming to bat.

This is from 2011 so I don't know if it still carries or not....

Thanks Bell (and Moon). I need to explore more. I had no idea all those stats were compiled and available.

The Sox had 40 come-from-behind wins in the regular season. Not sure where that ranks historically, but it seems like an amazing number.

Why is sale being skipped? It’s not everyday you get a chance to pitch the clinching game of a World Series???

He's not 100%. We've had more than enough evidence of this. I'm sure it's a good decision by Cora.

If you pro-rate the 9th inning runs scored to 162 games, it would be 97. Here is the order of innings by most runs scored per game:

5th 129

7th 112

1st 98

9th 97

6th 97

3rd 90

8th 88

4th 88

2nd 86

As you can see, 4 of our worst 6 innings, by runs scored, are innings 1-4 and 3 of our worst 4 are innings 2-4.

We do score more from the 5th inning on.

Dodgers were 58-0 with a 4 run or better lead, until last night.

My mistake 54-0.

Then there's Kinsler. ;)

You ain't just a shittin there's Kinsler. He is a good tough competitor and judging the guy on one play is total ********. He has helped this team become the champions that they are about to become.

Well said.

And JBJ and Price and Kimbrel and Devers and Kelly and Barnes and Nunez and Moreland and all the catchers. It is amazing how so much vitriol can be aimed at so many players on such a great and successful team.

It's beyond my understanding too. Clowns.

I expect a 100% Sale. Kershaw is the guy who is diminished. He is still good but ain’t elite anymore. His stuff is not dominant as it used to be. Also he will face the best offense in baseball. BOS is way better than MIL and ATL. Not even close. Also He will pitch in an AL park.

IMO we win the 2 at home. 2 at LAD, and not sure whether we lose one. Series won’t comeback to Boston. Want to be humble but we are that good this year.

Good call lol! Poor Dodgers fans.

Part of me wonders if we played a team like the Cubs would it have gone to game 6 or 7?

The Astros were the best team we played.

Dig up the corpses of the 1927 Yankees and challenge them to a winner take all best of seven for the title!!

Agreed! My anxiety was sky high in the Houston series especially when they won game 1. Once we won that Series I honestly didn't think the Dodgers would give us any trouble. Maybe game 6 at most.
