The cupboard is pretty bare with starting pitching in AA and AAA for the Sox. :(

Exactly. Buchs 5-6 era is really not much better when your talking about sucking or really sucking...

I mean, cant we just call up Kieth Couch or Wilkerson from AA? Cant be that much worse...maybe one will do well. All im saying is im ready to give someone whos even remotely close a shot at this point...

Though he's deservedly the odd man out of the rotation at this point, I wouldn't toss him out the door just yet. Kelly was great the last time around, obviously, but he has yet to prove he can be any more reliable than Buch, and we'd still be just an injury away from having to give starts to Owens or O'Sullivan again. (Worth mentioning that Elias has looked good the last couple of starts, though.)

Yup.

The Sox are not exactly awash in rotation riches.

As frustrating as it has been with Buch, he is still MORE MLB ready than any of the depth options. And he has pitched some good innings.

They've all been good innings just marred by a bad pitch.

Lol, there was meant to be a bit of sarcasm in that post.

Point being...im over Buchholz!!!

fair enough. i have been sold on Kelly since the middle of last year though. i think he is going to be a solid starter for us.

Owens isn't getting any more starts until he finds some semblance of control.

I definitely agree... a guy who's walking over a batter an inning in Triple-A has no business in the majors, period. I was just illustrating how craptastic our depth options are right now.

Well there is Teddy Stankiewicz but I'm not sure how well his stuff will play up in the majors right now. He's not exactly blowing guys away but he has good results, the low K rate is a little concerning.

Still, I don't think he's a guy to rely on this year. I was hoping Roenis Elias would be a good depth option for us this year and he still may but the pitching staff is vulnerable if it sustains more injuries.

Stankiewicz is still a long ways away at this point. The best arms are still in A ball and who knows how they'll progress...

thats a tough last name.

Not at all. Not unlike mine, and I've told people for years any 4 year old can spell it (well, both mine could :))

Besides, if we can handle Yastrzemski, Stankiewicz is a piece of cake.

Yastrzemski gets me every time. Thankfully the trivia site I use accepts "Yaz" as an alternate answer for any quizzes in which he is a correct answer. Thank goodness for all of those people who make quizzes for those of us who have enough trouble spelling "Youkilis".

I have no trouble with Yastrzemski. I just think 'Yaster - zemski', which is totally phonetic, then remove the first e.

Is this it? Bullpen? DL? Release? Any other possibilities?

It's said no injury, so BP long relief is my guess. It's possible he may get one more start. Too bad we can't go back in time and sign this mysterious FA SP that was projected to be a better risk than Clay Buchholz for the same money or less.

Yup..Its official...Buch to the pen for long relief...not feeling all that good about that move, but really, what else? They have zero depth thats worth talking about. Hes going to have to be shopped. Just pay his salary for the year so we can get something back and hope ERod and Kelly can do well

@timbritton Rodriguez will start Tuesday. Clay Buchholz to the bullpen, Farrell told reporters in Toronto.

i'm impressed. it may seem so simple and common logic but it takes nuts to make the moves that have been made this year. I thought for sure that he would get one more start.

IMHO one more start won't make any difference. Farrell made his statement last night when he left Buch in there to give up 4 ER in the 5th. The statement was, "We're done with you, and we're not going to help you any by pulling you now to keep your ERA down."

I'm no advocate of players wasting bullets in the minors but I would not have been surprised if they had wanted to give E-Rod and his knee brace one more look before the call up.

Who knows? Maybe Buchholz will thrive in the pen. Maybe he'll end up healthier.

Also very glad the Red Sox made the smart decision.
