The thing about Owens that is so puzzling is that he had reports when he was in the low minors of throwing mid 90s. By the time he heads north and makes his debut last yr, he was barely touching 90. This year, he is barely hitting 88. Is he slowing it down intentionally to gain command? If so, it isn't really working. His command is awful both in and out of the zone. He is not a big league starter on a good team. He is at best a AAAA guy

I have no doubt Owens will get his swings and misses tonight. My concern is if his control isn't there that this team makes him pay when he puts guys on base.

Right now Owens is the type of pitcher who can pitch to this team if he's on....but a team like the White Sox will make him pay a lot more than NY did if he is all over the place.

Yup, limiting walks are going to be important.

Should be a good game.

I've been following the Sox system for a long time and I've been following Owens since he was drafted in 2011. Everything I remember from him had him in the 88-90 range, even when I saw him in Portland 3 years ago he was throwing around 89 the whole game and hit 91 a couple times. He's hit 92-93 on the gun in the past when he's really reached back but he's pitching right where he always has. His velocity can play up because it has deception, but it all goes out the window when he can't spot the fastball, as we've seen before.

thats ok. we will just have him pitch to the NYY.

You missed it. LOL There is not much love for Buchholz here and very little patience for him. Most people did not want his option picked up, despite it being a no brainer.

Hey Kimmi,

Just found this reply, and fair enough... I was going off what I read in this thread (where most of the responses seemed proportionate and reasonable), but it wouldn't surprise me to hear that Clay hasn't exactly been the homecoming king around here historically.

Clay's career #'s vs. the Yanks

W-L ERA WHIP BAA OBP SLG OPS

As usual, you don't think before you post.

And you should read. He was clearly referring to Henry Owens.

If this is the same "babe" who followed over from the BDC boards....you will learn he doesn't read much. He's a Yankee troll.

Past Yankees are not this year's Yankees, in case you haven't noticed.

We should thank them for helping the Sox out last night though.

Babe tends to start drinking early on days ending with Y.

Looks like Owens' #'s are even better!!

W-L ERA WHIP BAA OBP SLG OPS

0-2 8.53 1.816 .340 .421 .600 1.021

yes in 12 innings pitched, I'm sure he's doomed for a lifetime ERA of 8.53 VS the Yankees.

Pretty sure we could get 80 year old Sandy Koufax to sign for us and he'll still beat their pathetic lineup..........

That was the point of people saying to pitch Buch or Owens against them dufus. You can live in the past all you want though..........makes you look so much more ridiculous...

Clay has taken a beating here. I can understand the frustration with him. He is maddening to watch sometimes, especially since we know how good he can be. You would think that with the success that he has when he pitches with conviction that he would have more confidence in himself. He's a tough one to figure out.

LOL I've always liked Babe, aside from the fact that he's a Yankees fan. He's harmless.

The thing about Babe is, like Jacko, when he's not trolling, he's actually a very knowledgeable and good poster.

He's always had the ten cent head and the million dollar arm. The thing is, his stuff looks pretty pedestrian now. He used to have that mid 90s heat and a knee buckling curve. Now he's more a 2 seamer, cutter kind of guy. He's not as intimidating as he used to be

Exercising the option was not the problem. Not getting more depth was the problem. Not exercising his option would simply have created another hole (for the full season, not just half) to fix. Guys like Mat Latos, Doug Fister, our very own Rich Hill, Juan Nicasio and Joulys Chacin were available, all of them with varying degrees of upside.

The trade of Wade Miley -- last year's Red Sox leader in innings, starts and wins -- shortly after the David Price signing did not help the pitching depth.

The thread about Clay's option?

This thread has nothing to do with clays option. The Original post was about David price

No, the original post and thread title said Clay's 2016 option which has nothing to do with Price.
