People have a lot of different opinions about journalism, but as someone with a deep interest in the history and current events of the field, let me tell you that the guy screaming on the street corner has a better chance of getting at the truth than the NY Post or the Daily Mail. The Daily Mail is basically the Enquirer of the UK. The number of stories of theirs that have been completely debunked and never retracted is staggering. The Post is a little better but not by much. Until a few outlets that aren't these two start reporting this I'm gonna take it with a huge grain of salt.
Shooting Big Papi in the DR is basically like what would have happened if you had shot Mr. Rogers here in the USA. No one is helping you escape that s***, you'll be lucky if the police drag you out of the mob while you're still alive.
Probably not a robbery, but given the number of stories coming out of the DR about wealthy athletes being robbed, I'm willing to consider that this might have been an acquaintance or hanger-on who asked Ortiz for money and was turned down. Not that it matters, at this point. All I care about is Ortiz pulling through. This is a bizarre situation and even though this has happened before with MLB players in the DR It's still unbelievable.
I'm too lazy to check, how many outs were left in the other 4 20-K games when the pitcher had 17 Ks? I know it was Wood, Scherzer, and Clemens twice, but I don't remember the exact sequence of any of them.
I listened to the third and fourth innings on the way home from a used bookstore that's about 40 minutes away. Usually when I make that drive during a game I can get through four or five whole innings before I get home.
Apparently there are two categories of unapproved users, those awaiting moderation and those awaiting E-Mail confirmation. I changed the second one as well, I'm not sure of the difference but better safe than sorry I guess?
I'm not going to approve any new users for a couple weeks. Unfortunately users awaiting confirmation can still send PMs. If you receive a PM from a user you don't recognize, don't open it. Just let me or JB know and we can ban the user.
