ERod has to be back before that can happen. However, I think Buchholz goes back to the pen since he has been pretty effective there; they certainly could use the help.

Yup, E-Rod has to get over this "I'm afraid to pitch" BS before you relegate Buchh to the pen.

E-Rod hosed this team last Sunday. Put him in the pen until he's "ready" to start a game.

Hammies are funny things. I think before we start the character assassination of E-Rod we need to know a lot more about how the conversation went. It's one thing if he flat out said he didn't want to pitch, it's another if the conversation went more like this.

Farrell: Hey Eddie, how's the leg?

E-Rod: Bit tight. I can go, but it's a bit tight (pitcher speak for "this leg is killing me")

Farrell: Alright, we'll hold off then. We've got Buchholz available, and we need you in the postseason, let's get you all the way right before we send you out there again.

E-Rod: .... Fine.

Here I will disagree. I don't want ANY pitcher, especially one as talented as ERod, going out there with a leg injury. Too many instances of guys trying to do that and ruining their arms because their delivery was altered. A pro athlete has to distinguish between playing hurt and playing injured. The former you have to learn to do, the latter is stupid to do.

Would you rather he miss one or 2 starts or would you rather he injure it worse and be gone for the season or worse? It's not a question of toughness.

You really think that's how the conversation went on Sunday?

He decided he couldn't go at 5:45!

I'll give him credit for saying he's partly responsible of the loss.

Your version is a nice little fantasy though.

Sometimes I, too, forget that baseball players are robots who are immune to the long-term consequences of aggravating an injury because of bravado and stupidity.

I'd give E Rod all the time he wants. We've seen him when he's not 100% comfortable. He's night and day from earlier in the year. He can't be thinking about hammie. As long as Clay is going strong, you ride him, ride him hard.

I have no problem giving him time.

What I don't like is the spot he put the team in last Sunday.

If you feel you can't pitch, say so!

Hopefully, someone like Price had a little talk with him.

Isn't that exactly what he did? Do you mean "say so further in advance" perhaps? I really think that he probably went into that day thinking he'd be all right, and then the hammy tightened up on him. It can happen that way.

No doubt. If Wright goes FRI/SAT. I would stall Erod until he is healthy, make Buchholz pitch Sunday night. When everybody is ready to roll Buchholz might be a 7/8th inning man. I still think DD makes a waiver deal soon. The talk around Beantown is making Pomeranz a lefty bullpen piece because Abad has been awful. Plus to keep his innings down. I'm against it. No way Jose..

He let them know on Saturday, not Sunday. Otherwise it would have been impossible for Owens to even get there.

I suspect he simply didn't know.

I have a feeling the Red Sox are going to pickup Clay's option for next year too. Stupid thing to do in my opinion. He always does this. What he is showing us right now is fool's gold. He is going to be back to s*** next season after he gets his money and spot in the rotation back.

I agree, and they are definitely picking up that option. If Clay will be the boil on the Red Sox ass for one more year, maybe he can at least provide relative value in the bullpen.

The way pitching staffs are used - there would be an opening for a guy who actually could pitch 100 relief innings ... not a long man per se - but somebody who could reliably pitch to 6 or 9 hitters a couple times a week. Buchholz could be valuable there. Either way, good he has found some feel.

In the spring I was in favor of bringing back Buch this year, but by the summer I was not. Now I'm back on the bus to Abilene--Buch and Dombrowski can do no wrong.

Get your stinkin' facts outta here!

It's not the name or profile. It's the info in the post. LMAO.

Are you like this all the time. I'm WB but if you want to call me stinky- man that's fine, that was my name on BDC and bruins boards. I try to walk and chew gum at the same time. I love all the Boston teams. Not just 1. ( Red Sox, Pats, and Bruins a little more though.

Remember this, Margo Adams was a pain in the arsh in Bogg's side and he still won batting titles. I'll embrace it as well. Call me 'stinky' Boggs . IDC. LOL-ING.

If your looking for people to hate and tell people you don't even know, I'd go watch your local news or out of market news. CNN AND FOX NEWS!!

You're right. 5:45 Sat.

Which gave the Sox and Pawtuckett very little time to line up replacements.

I hope they give him lots of time.

i think he's soft.

Odds are he went through whatever day before start running/routines he has and it tightened up during or right after he did them. Given that he's going to do those drills in the couple hours before game time, 5:30-5:45 is entirely plausible.

I do love it when internet tough guys call players soft with no real knowledge whatsoever.

I went to read that post but it was obscured by all this white sticky stuff. Probably Papa John's Garlic Sauce. Gross...

In all fairness, posters have no problem calling Clay "soft" and no one cares but now we are going to be hypocritical and call out a poster for calling another player soft? ok. noted.

Lol. Dale & Holly are usually pretty good in the afternoon.

The rest of 'eei's programing can be painful to listen to.
