Then have everyone get surgery now and let them rest up for midseason of '27.

Good idea, especially since there will be no games until at least mid-2027

Crochet may actually miss through August with his not so low grade lat strain.

Talk about a season down the drain

they baby these pitchers (and swing & missers) to no end and still....they all end up on the IL.

That's what happens when every single pitcher is max effort velo and spin. It's unsustainable.

well.....you'd think some of these geneuseses would look at the pitchers of yesteryear and think "hmmmm.....maybe we should emphasize command, movement and efficiency rather than throwing as hard as you f***ing can every pitch". naaaaah.

It's the same reason Roman Anthony hurt himself swinging the bat. If every swing is a swing to hit the ball 500 ft, players are going to get hurt more often.

Players are bigger, stronger, pulled from a larger talent pool, and many of them grow up playing baseball year round now.

And they are emphasizing spin, which translates into movement. But that’s one of the things causing injuries.

It’s not the same game as it was 15-20 years ago, back when a 95mph fastball was elite and not a minimum requirement like it is today…

If Bennett and Early are throwing as hard as they can , and if that defines success in MLB ( big ifs),  then neither has a great future. Now Tolle does throw a few mph higher, so he's our guy

Now what is the chance that Crochet  has a lifetime shoulder inflammation or sore lat  from his 2026 workload at peak effort.  One thing he does have is a nice contract to live off, forever

No Boston player I recall , except Whitlock recently,  returned at the end of the IL period . Neither was any player beset with a lesser injury than first imagined.

I swear that, when I read this, I read it as "No Boston player ever returned from the IL".  Giving the state of communications from the FO, it sounded reasonable for about 20 seconds.

Players muscles are growing faster than the supporting tendons and ligaments.  And not a single athlete is going to throw slower, or run slower, or swing slower.  When you're trying to make the HS team, the last thing you think about is how your arm will feel in 20 years.

Just another highlight of the lost season of '26, znd if you think there will be a full 2027, think again.

I'm wondering if there will ever be a 2027 season.  Getting the players to agree to any form of a salary cap will be a huge hurdle.

I'd be shocked if there was no 2027 season.

And I wouldn't surprised if the owners aren't particularly interested in a cap.  It's all about % of revenue, and there are always ways around that.
