Would you rather Giolito in the rotation or Early?

I'd rather Early.

Chances are decent someone gets hurt and you could have both…

Arenado's AAV is $3M less than what Breggie got. It's hard to take this idea seriously, unless they take Yoshida & Hicks. Even then, the trade would put us almost over the tax line.

As I mentioned in one of my posts, if we acquired Arenado + Donovan, I think it makes us a much better team, without the cost of a premier prospect.  If it's Arenado alone, probably aim for $30M in discounts.

So, we replace DHam with a free Arenado. Okay.

Once again then -- this is in relation to Arenado coming here.

Duran ranked in the 95th percentile or higher in fielding metrics with 10 Outs Above Average (OAA) and 23 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) in CF in 2024. I'd rather he go back there and Raf to 2nd and keep the athleticism in the team than bring in a 3rd baseman that's growing older and declining before our eyes for the next two years especially with his contract.

Thankfully, the FO have no interest in Arenado, so we won't have to worry either way.

if he comes cheap and on a 1 yr deal the Sox will be all in on Arenado

He's under contract.

If they get him for anything more than free (or for Masa + Hicks), I'll be joining you and Fred on the ledge.

Demote Mayer?

Pass on Arenado.

Arenado’s best friend (Trevor Story) is saying Mayer reminds him a lot of Arenado.  Sure, Trevor could have an ulterior motive (“He’s Arenado at third.  No need to put Mayer at SS!”). But why take on $42mil for a declining Arenado when we might already have a minimum wage ascending one?

Move Story to 2b and move on CJ Abrams?

I prefer that over Arenado and Donovan..

CJ Abrams is a pretty bad defender at SS (career -45 OAA). If the Sox are acquiring him, they should be moving him to 2b instead of Story.

Arenado is owed $42M, and the Cardinals are paying $31M of that? Wow! Bloom is paying everyone to take his players.

COL is paying 5M of that. The amount of $ that STL has deferred on this deal is hilarious.

Abrams sub par defense is seemingly his poor range, his arm is about as strong as Bregman/Mayers/Storys is and he has decent hands.  I think he would be fine at 3B.

I know people don't like to assume but I don't know why people are so reluctant to acknowledge that SS often see their defense take a few ticks up when they move off of the demanding SS position.

ARod was a top shortstop and decent but not better at 3B.

Pokey Reese could shine with the leather at any position.

Hanley Ramirez could hurt himself and teammates at any position.

Robin Yount and Ernie Banks, Gold Glove shortstops, were both basically negative dWAR in the second half of Hall of Fame careers at CF and 1B.

(I won't even mention the ex-Red Sox superstar traded in his prime who will wear an LA cap on his bronze plaque that moved to shortstop in his 30s and kept winning World Series rings)

I'd still rather take a chance with him playing better at 3B/2B than I would with Arenado who is in serious decline.

I'd have done if I were the RS.  Spending $5.5M at 3rd leaves a lot of money for other imporovements (assuming they spend it).

Maybe even a 4th trade with the Cardinals for Donovan! 😜

Well it don't come much cheaper than $5m a year. And they didn't do it.

Even I was probably on board at that price. No idea how highly rated the prospect they sent back was mind.

I'm so glad someone else got Arenado. I'd prefer him to DHam, but only if STL pais $40M out of $42M, or took Masa and his $36M owed.

Looks like the Red Sox are set to miss out on Bo Bichette as the Phillies emerge as frontrunners to sign him.

I expect us to sit on our hands in free agency and go bargain bin/lowball shopping once the good players are taken.

Baseball Referenece and Fangraphs estimate 2026 payroll at 197 Million. I have Bichette and Suarez getting 33 and 22M a year respectively. That would put the Sox payroll at 252, only 6 Million above the CBT threshold. Sign them both. The Cubs are going to figure it out with Shaw and a full infield, the Sox can do it with Mayer. Trading Devers and losing Bregman freed up 67Million for this year. Suarez on a 3ish year deal would leave us with just 4 players under contract after 2030. There is no reason why the Sox should not be going in for both.

Bichette just does not seem like "THE GUY" to go mega long and mega large on.

Glad he's going to the NL.

Looks like Tucker is close to going to the Mets at $50M AAV

Aggressive? Brez May have a different meaning than the other teams, on how much that means.
