Baseball Referenece and Fangraphs estimate 2026 payroll at 197 Million. I have Bichette and Suarez getting 33 and 22M a year respectively. That would put the Sox payroll at 252, only 6 Million above the CBT threshold. Sign them both. The Cubs are going to figure it out with Shaw and a full infield, the Sox can do it with Mayer. Trading Devers and losing Bregman freed up 67Million for this year. Suarez on a 3ish year deal would leave us with just 4 players under contract after 2030. There is no reason why the Sox should not be going in for both.

Sonny Gray finished last year with the 6th best SIERRA, 11th best FIP, and 3rd highest BABIP. Even some of his worse stats (4th in LD%, 16th in Hard%), he finds himself around both Framber and Cease, the top 2 SPers on the market. If Gray works, he can be a very effective #2. At the moment, I see him more as a Giolito replacement, and it seems like the Sox see him as that as well (not much higher from what Gio's option was). Clarke profiles more of a bullpen guy at best due to his high stress delivery and high walk rate, and Fitts likely doesn't have the stuff to be anything more than a fringe starter or swing guy. Love this trade for Breslow if we add another starter, slightly upset if we don't. Gray will likely go down the sinker/cutter pipeline as his fastball has rapidly declined, but his command and breaking balls are arguably at their best points. Should be a shoe in for 28-32 starts as well.

I didn't hear anything about any sort of mechanical issues with KC, but check me if im wrong. The hope is with a full offseason of putting on strength and a mental reset and we can just write off last season as a weird fluke.

I think KC was definetly rushed. Him signing that big contract put too much pressure on him to perform immediately, as having that money in AAA might not go down well with the "casual" fan.

I have Alonso, Helsley, and Weaver coming in as FA signings, while we make a trade for a Joe Ryan or a Hunter Greene. I think our position player group is good enough where just one big time middle of the order bat can push us into that upper echelon. Would rather trade from surplus (OF) to gain a top line starter. Interesting to see how other teams would value Duran, and how much he could get us in terms of that top line starter. How much more would the Reds ask for Hunter Greene? Saw a Duran + for Ketel Marte trade idea I honestly didnt hate, but would rather trade for a starter and sign a middle of the order bat.

I agree. I much rather us go with Alonso. If Casas comes out of camp playing well he could factor in at DH, we can never have too many middle of the order bats. Of course, that leaves Yoshida with nowhere to play, but I'd be fine with us taking a good chunk of that contract to move him.

just a thought that popped up. If Duran gets traded, does anyone know who gets moved to left? I assume it would be Roman, as Wilyer is a 2 time gold glove in a tough right field, but left with the monster is tricky

I dont get why everyone is writing off Casas already. I know he was really bad in his start last year, but so was Trev. He was starting to slug a bit before getting injured as well. People forget his last healthy season he was an .856 ops hitter. Still only 25. He should have a chance to win the 1b job this spring.

Roman Anthony had the 3rd longest batted ball of Paul Skenes this year. He allowed 4 hits over 400 feet this year. Out of all 4, Skenes threw Roman the fastest pitch. Roman Anthony is 21. He had less than 250 Major League atbats at the time.

I think everyone here is way to low on Roman. From the start of July until September 2nd (when he got hurt) Roman was 10th in MLB in OPS, 5th in OBP, 11th in WRC+, 4th in hard hit%, 3rd in EV. Also graded out well in RF with 6 OAA and 3 FRV. This kid is a stud. Going to be a perineneal all star. Will be an MVP candidate year in year out. Clearly our best player. This kids incredible and if we build a team lets build it around him.

Saying Anthony is a worm-killer is insane. Our best hitter from July on. Going to be a superstar for years to come.

Sucks that Masa is such a roster crunch right now. I really don't see a role for him on this team. At this point, he's a primary DH who doesn't hit for power but is getting paid 18M for the next 2 years. Maybe we can eat some money, package him with some prospect, and dump him on some team for a comp pick or something of the sorts.
