I guess you could move Duran to CF, put Teoscar in LF and keep Abreu in right. Turns Cedanne into supersub and Roman into depth

TH LF

Duran CF

Anthony RF

I'd be surprised if they landed a big fish like Fried and scored one of the names you mentioned. At best, they bring on one starter either by trade or FA. They probably continue to troll the FA market for cheap reliever depth.

and cheap SP depth.  wonder what Cory Kluber is up to these days and there is always Rich Hill again when his kid's LL season is finished

But which one would you want starting 120-130 games?

I figured it'd be 50/50 with Wong going forward. I don't see them dumping Wong at this point.

50-50, the Red Sox' record with the Wonger? So the key will be who catches the other 62!

trust me I won't be.  Likely our major SP signing.

I'm back to where I was, last winter. It's crying sham.

The context was MVP and I discussing if acquiring Teoscar necessitates a need to trade Abreu.  I initially noted that it would and MVP was like "not so sure"

Anthony is still very young, and if we dont trade WIlyer , RA becomes quality depth (granted we would still have Campbell as an OF option and Cedanne) should we sign Teoscar and flip Abreu. But after reflecting, I would agree with MVP that its not a 100% certainty that we would move Wilyer should we sign TH.  But I still think its more likely than not.

Im certainly less confident than I was, but we kind of expected this.  Other teams that missed out on Soto getting into the bidding war (whether that be trade assets or free agency dollars) on our targets. Blue Jays and Dodgers negotiating with TH. Yankees getting involved in the Crochet trade talks (Mets too, even though they didnt miss out on Soto). SF, Bal, Yankees getting involved in FA bidding wars for Burnes, Fried....

Its not easy to sign (or trade for) anyone right now who would be a clear upgrade. A lot of teams hungry to improve.  And we gotta be hungry to improve.  Because the lack of spending recently , to me, is not only driven by stinginess but also complacency.

Why? We just bid $700m on one player. Nothing has happened since that means we've missed out on top targets.

I know there's a solid track record of being let down recently, but let's have a wee bit of patience.

Unrealistic offseason expectations produce annual suffering.

IDK. Teoscar can't play RF in Fenway.

He can't play RF because he isn't a member of the team as far as I know. In fact the team has acquired NO ONE of note at all so far. Yes, its still early, but other teams have made progress. You would think that ownership would want to be much more aggressive at improving what has become a crap team for years.

If all Henry can do is present the same pile of dung to the fans of the Red Sox he should just sell the team. I know that is not going to happen..

Maybe we should be satisfied with what we are being fed because it appears that the definition of "full throttle" is becoming clear.

Fisk. Or Varitek.

I know Pudge used to catch 150 or so games a year, but at 77, do you think he could hold up for 120?

Varitek’s only 52 but appears to have put on a few(?) pounds since he retired.

Maybe they could each do 81.

This guy's dead.

We’ll have to cross him off the list.

Dead or not he's probably better than what we have now.

I get the point.

IMO, Anthony is my #1 RF'er going into 2025. Yes, he has to win the job, but to me, it's more like it's his to lose.

I think Abreu will be traded.

Listen, Breslow said they were going to be aggressive this winter, and you'd better believe it. Even reporters are insisting it's true; Tom Arrivederci said Sam Kennedy pushed him out of the way and took his taxi in Houston last night.

With an extension?

What does an extension have to do with it? The trade of Valdez only concerns one year of control.

If we could extend him.

I guess I need to post mile long posts to explain it.

Sure they could extend him AFTER the trade. That doesn't increase his trade value though.

Right now, he only has one year of control. Valdez isn't a big enough name that they are going to work out an extension prior to him coming on board. I'm not sure a starting pitcher like him would do that considering the signings this offseason anyway.

I had mentioned on an earlier post, that although I haven't seen a trade contingent on an extension in quite a while, I would do the trade, if we had that.

I don't give extensions to pitchers over 30 - JH
