It does seem like a long time ago, but the three decades of pain that came before JH was worse.

No doubt. But this team should be competitive nearly every year. Not WS contenders necessarily, but playoff contenders, not last place teams.

Now Eovaldi is even gone. He just signed with the Rangers. The fans need to show up on day one and turn their backs on the team from the stands and bend over in unison. Maybe then Henry will understand that we deserve better.

I agree, totally. A 1 or 2 year rebuild, here and there is okay, as long as a window is being built up, but that is not what has happened. This has been a 6 year rebuild with an outlier fluke season in 2021.

it will be the same excuse for Burnes now too.

We could have gotten him for $217M/7.

LOL!

Yup. This is all one big drawn out sick joke.

Not really.

They keep feigning serious interest in signing just about every notable FA. They put out the news and "leaks."

To this fan, it is backfiring. It only makes it worse.

I knew all along to not believe their words, and only actions would convince me things have changed, and the words and words keep coming.

The actions?

Chapman

Wilson

Talk of trades, too. Talk, talk, talk.

Maybe we end up doing something significant, but seriously, does anyone, now, expect we do more than we did before ...

2023? Yoshida, Duvall, Jansen & Martin?

2022? Story, Wacha, Hill & Strahm?

Hell, we lost more value than we may sign, this winter.

Yes, there is a long way to go, and there are still several useful FAs left to outbid other GMs to get. I'll say it again, I'll believe it when I see it.

I could live with a couple of years of rebuilding. A 6 year rebuild means that management has screwed up. It’s not even so much that the money hasn’t been spent (though that’s part of it)-it’s that the personnel decisions haven’t been wise.  Unless we miraculously upgrade our pitching by a lot it’s going to be another crap year.

Henry publicly said a few years ago that he wanted to cut payroll-then he hired Bloom a former Rays exec to do it.. And we all know how the Rays handle payroll.

Now they claim they’ll be spending, even into the LT.

They’re lying to us.

According to McAdam, manager Alex Cora and team president Sam Kennedy are more keen on a Bregman pursuit than Breslow happens to be.

Well, I agree with Breslow on this one. Wonder if the problem is the continued issue of too many cooks in the kitchen?

They're just oozing dysfunction.  And yes, I think too many cooks has to be part of it.

Breslow says he's surprised to hear talk about trading Casas, shortly followed by us hearing that they did offer Casas to the Mariners, who of course declined.  And yes, I know that stuff happens plenty, but with this organization it just seems like more of their misleading messaging and general ineptitude.

They have had "moments" of moderate spending since the Bloom hire, and gave that massive Devers extension, recently, but we are being passed by more and more teams with more "willing" ownership groups.

I don't think the "lied" when they said they felt we could remain competitive as they scaled back spending. We did have some payrolls that were top 5 to 10 for most of the last 6 seasons, but we did not spend very wisely, as we kept losing key player after key player, with the Betts loss as the major kick in the balls, way back in 2020.

Yes, they have been lying to us, and more than just the "full throttle" obvious lie. I feel like all these reports of being interested in the top FAs is all lies, too. If it's not a lie, it's almost worse, since it shows they have no clue about what the market is.

they just need to hire a couple more executive vice-presidents. that will solve all their problems.

Happy Rule 5 Draft Day to all who celebrate.

2PM

Whos is most likely to be taken from our farm has been the bigger question than who we might grab. The Whitlock steal was memorable.

Possible losses:

Monegro or Sikes?

Less likely...

Bastardo, Gambrell, Liu

Castro, Hickey, Jordan

Did I miss anyone?

Kwiatkowski and Bryan Gonzalez in the MiLB portion.

I believe the Sox are ineligible to draft due to having a full 40 man roster.

Potential losses: Michael Fulmer, Max Ferguson, Corey Rosier, Yodanny Monegro

Long shot: Blaze Jordan

Most likely outcome: Just Fulmer…

Fulmer is the least risky, seeing as to how he has a decent MLB resume.  I also think teams might be intrigued by the defense/speed/versatility of Max Ferguson…

I'm just here for the Sox taking a Yankees player in the MiLB portion. If they forgo that annual tradition, this FO is officially COOKED.

Ferguson's issue is he can't hit. Not sure he could OPS 600 in MLB.

So you’re down on them for not getting Kaleb Ort 2.0?

It's all I got left with these Bozos.

He could serve as a 26th man INF/OF bench player whose speed is utilized as a pinch runner for a much slower ghost runner.  His low ceiling works for him in this case, since he’s earmarked for bench duty.  Teams like Tampa, Oakland/Sacramento/Las Vegas, and Pittsburgh could find a use for him.

But Fulmer makes sense for nearly everyone..

Can't they trade or DFA minutes before a pick?

You're just talking about a speedy utility player. I'm sure those teams could find a guy like that who has actually played capably above High A.
