Is Cp the new Dojji?

What does this even mean? it was good to see Casas get a couple of hits last night. Like I said in an earlier post, not much positive here for Dalbec these days. I honestly hope the best for Casas I just am not quite ready to be a member of the fan club. Is it ok to have a different opinion here these days? What is a Dojji by the way?

I'm not so sure we know if Dalbec is not a quality hitter or not.

His sample size seems large enough to get a strong feeling, but I'm not so sure the answer is known. The guy is a super streaky hitter- both good and bad. Had been given a longer look, during any season, he'd have been one hot streak away from having decent career numbers for a player's first 1000-1200 PAs. Many good hitters do not have good numbers after 1000 PAs.

As it stands, if I told you a rookie had these numbers after his first 911 PAs, does he deserve a longer look, I think most would say, yes. (Pro-rated to 650 PAs)

.232 32 92

.751 OPS

The problem wit Dalbec is the recency effect. He sucked in his last stretch in the bigs, and it was a long stretch.

Here's a look at his streaks:

.959 in 92 PAs in 2020

.595 in first 173 PAs of 2021

.722 middle 137 PAs of '21

1.110 last 143 PAs of '21 (.916 last 84 gms/280 PAs)

.488 first 126 PAs of '22

.741 last 227 PAs of '22, including .786 stretch of 146 PAs

I'm not arguing giving him a chance, this year. We don't have a slot for him, but I would not be surprised if he does well on his next team.

I agree with your opinion.

Wait - it just came to me. Pretty sure that with 19,000 + posts, I got a pretty good idea who you might be. It explains the tone of many of your recent posts. Let the good times roll.

Red Sox announce they acquired RHP Tayler Scott from the Dodgers, in exchange for cash considerations. To make room for Scott on the 40-man roster, the club transferred RHP John Schreiber to the 60-Day IL. Schreiber landed on the IL May 16 so he’s eligible to return July 15

I was wondering why we haven't heard anything on Schreiber. I guess no news was bad news.

Maybe it's already been posted. I see that Chang is now on 60-day IL. Looks like Kike at short.

We make a statement. It takes two days to break it. Ugh.

Hamilton is starting at SS right now.

Absolutely - no argument from me. I'm surprised it took me this long to figure it out.

Other teams have had major injuries, and some had had more than us. The Yanks and Astros come to mind.

Here is a look at what we have lost due to injury:

Rotation (15 GS would be what our top 5 SP'ers could have)

GS'd missed,

8 Paxton

7 Whitlock

4 Sale (many more to come)

2 Houck (more to come)

Pen

Schreiber (on 60 day)

Martin (missed about 18 days)

Crawford (missed about 18 days)

Joely, Kelly & Mills (missed just about the whole season, so far)

Bleier has been out a while but that may not be a big loss.

Everyday:

Story (out until July/August)

Mondesi (may never play a game with us)

Chang (on 60 day)

(All 3 SSs out really tests a team's depth chart.)

Arroyo (missed a lot of time)

Duvall (missed 2 months)

McGuire (on 15 day)

Our 2 highest paid players will miss over half the season of more: Sale & Story.

Losing Houck is going to be costly, I fear. Losing Sale was not unexpected. But any losses of starters after Sale were going to be tough to compensate for. Bloom may need to make a move soon.

Why? They are a "last place team" and going to be "sellers" at the deadline. Just play out the string with what you have.

I agree.

Had either Kluber or Pivetta given us what we hoped they would, it wouldn't be so bad, but we've basically lost 4 SP'ers: Sale, Houck, Kluber & Pivetta.

Whitlock and Paxton have missed 15 starts between them, which amounts to a full SP'er over the first half of 2023. Both need to stay healthy. Whitlock needs to start improving, very soon, if we are to have any chance.

We are counting on 3 SP'ers: Bello, Paxton and Whitlock and then Crawford holding the fort down at #4, until Houck can return.

Who is our 5th starter? We can't keep going with guys like Dermody and pen games started by guys like Ort and Garza, followed by Murphy and Walter.

The problem is, what team is going to trade a decent SP'er in June?

Leave Winckowski in the bullpen. He’s needed there…

Agreed. We already took Whitlock and Houck, and now Crawford.

Ort and Garza used as openers in the space of a few games.

Are the Red Sox trying to invent a new strategy - the Garbage Can Opener?

It’s like Cora misses the entire point of that strategy…

Maybe its time to stretch out Winck.

He's been better in the bullpen for a reason. Scouts have said his stuff would tick up in short stints and it has.

Openers have always been middle relievers. Garza's numbers prior to yesterday were fine.

Loss in 10 innings with Ort pitching hurt.

Yesterday we go shutout so no complaints from me. We limited the usage of bullpen.

But I do hope we have a better opener starter next time.

Actually I believe there's more to it than just what you said.

I read he worked really hard last winter.

He's NOT the same pitcher only because he's in the bullpen. He's NOT the same pitcher because he is a different pitcher.

I'm half kidding about making him a start......but to push the envelope, would you pitch your best middle reliever as an OPENER?

Anyone, anyone? Any pitching coaches with real live experience?

MassLive quickly covered Kopech, Moncada and Beni.

Extending Sale is completely different than trading for Chris.

DD made the right call.

He chose Devers over Moncada. Sox paid astronomical fee to aqcuire Moncada. He came up and played 3B because we thought we had Pedey for bit longer. Kopech was the wild card in the trade.

I make that trade every day of the week.

Beni signed the biggest FA contract in White Sox history I believe. His 1 HR and .695 OPS stands out to me.

Put it this way, had we passed on Yoshida to get Beni, I would be pissed at Bloom by now.

Move on....nothing to see here.

When the Rays used openers, they used mediocre middle relievers all the time.

I don’t get why Cora didn’t go to Pivetta. I assumed Pivetta would start the next day. Clearly not the reason…

Sergio Romo had 5 opener starts during a season in which he had 25 saves…
